1:00 The horror in his voice is so high that it sounds like even the voice actor is afraid of what they're putting him through. 2:08 OH NO! Jon, don't do that!!! Oh god...
Epic new theory: Jon was reincarnated into Sonic. Actually, no, I think that Jon and Sonic are the same person. Have you ever seen them in the same room together? No, because they're the same.
garfield is such a weird, liminal feeling series to me ever since r/imsorryjon took off seeing this stuff and the man slowly going nuts throughout the clips is just… weird
Personally, I think Garfield from this era (both the comic and cartoon during the 80’s and 90’s) is genuinely funny. Modern Garfield is as exciting as a piece of toast. I was a huge Garfield fan as a kid, and still revisit the content from that era. The strip and the newer animated content have completely lost that edge that made it so appealing. Although I will admit you can only so many jokes about eating lasagna and hating Mondays before they get stale.
@@crystaleevee1334 Exactly the same for me. I also noticed a few reoccurring characters and bits dropped from the rotation, like Irma who I always enjoyed. And heck, Jim doesn't even work on his own comic anymore. I gave up on new content when it turned canon Liz wanted to be Jon's girlfriend for real. Half the fun left was what insane sort of dates Jon would find. I'll revisit old Garfield, but any interest in it otherwise has deteriorated.
@@MortalAnonymous I actually don’t mind the idea of Jon and Liz making it official. I remember a statement Jim made somewhere that he felt that it was time for Jon to settle down after being in the dating game for so long, which I agree with. Granted I haven’t been regularly keeping up with the strip since the two hooked up, but I felt the dynamic had comedic potential. A perfect classic straight man/funny man style relationship, like the time the two of them went on that date and Jon looked more ridiculous as it progressed along. That was hilarious! Unfortunately, from the modern strips I’ve read, it’s just been mostly generic and dull greeting card fodder. (Sigh)
@@crystaleevee1334 I just never even liked the idea of Liz being his girlfriend. She was always harrassed into dating him. It was never healthy. Agreed, however, that on top of that, it's beyond stale material. The relationship thing was just the final straw for me.
@@crystaleevee1334 Not only was it genuinely funny it was experimental too. It did a lot of creative visuals and abstract jokes, that were not always hilarious on paper but because the art was so silly and well done, it was funny. Two such strips I recall fondly was one with nothing but many panels of Garfield's face close up, drawn all distorted and wiggly, like an acid trip, Jon offscreen yells "GARFIELD! STOP SCARING THE GOLDFISH.", and the final panel cuts to the room where Garfield is glaring up behind a glass bowl with a terrified goldfish leaning AWAY from him inside of it. Brilliant use of surprise and warped POV. The second one is a strip with a very detailed couple of panels of Jon's empty house, in apocalyptic disarray, all the furniture is smashed or torn to shreds, all the windows are broken, and the trail of disaster all leads up into the kitchen, where we see a desperate Jon screaming at his coffee maker "HURRY, HURRY UP AND PERK!!!!" with a half awake pissed Garfield bitterly approaching. I kid you not it almost feels like a modern fan made creepypasta parody joke, save the fact Garfield is drawn as his normal cute self. Which makes the contrast of Jon's reasonable terror even funnier. It's completely understandable why a daily strip would get low on steam, it's freaking hard, especially after decades and with such a limited cast, it's brilliant they still are running at all and manage to produce chuckles even a bit. But yes, I would like to see them even attempt at being weird and wonderfully surreal again.
This feels like an old 12 ~ 14 year old RUclips video which would've had an extremely high number of views and comments dating back to that time.
