I remember these amps well. As one of the first to complete with them.for a full season ('93). I think your M25 has some.serious issues. First major competition with them was at Spring Break Nationals, in Daytona. Lots of memories. Actually made the brochure later that year (for when the M50, and M100 were released). Funny story, when Larry Frederick visited us at our store, he casually told us that M stood for "moron" as not even a moron could blow up one of these amps. He then remember that both of our installers, both of whom were in the brochure, were using the M series. The look on his face was priceless!

Just remember, the M series was PG's "entry level" line before the Sapphires came out! The MS was the main line, the MPS was the competition line, and the M line was the entry level.

My favorite build of all time had the prototype of this series in the car. The build was done in 1991 and it housed 6 M100's, 2 M50's, and 2 M25's. They ran 39 MTX Blue Thunder series speakers. That whole car was ahead of its time and funny part is, the owners name is Jeff.

If y'all still have, or run across an old PG amp in the wild, DO NOT try to power them up until you've had them re-capped. Not even "just to see if it works". All of the old PG amps, every last one of them, the caps have failed by now. It's a well documented issue.
Re-capping them is pretty easy, but, if you fire it up and the caps pop, the damage can be absolutely catastrophic.

This is such a cool video. Thanks for covering so much. When I was in high school, I worked for a car stereo shop. I foundly remeber doing a single Lanzar 50c in a big Caddy. Had 4"mids, 6.5 midbass, tweeters, 6x9's and 2 15"s. It was amazing. But the work it took to get it all in and custom crossovers was nuts. Great job showing us all the details provided by the manufacturers way back when.

Had the same, M100 feeding 2 Kicker S12s @8 ohm mono and the M44 with Boston Pro series 6.5 components in the front with kicker 6.5 rears. They were in a plexiglass fan cooled case and when I sold them in 2000 they were still mint condition and I got nearly what I paid for them as I sold them to a buyer outside the US where they weren't available in that country. Audio Control EQX and 4XS rounded out the system.

I just picked up an m100 from a local auction here in Michigan. Unbelievably, I won it for $20. So I'm guessing it didn't have a high reserve. I took the top panel off to examine the internals. They seem fine. So the next step is going to be wearing it up and making sure it works okay. I haven't decided yet whether or not I should keep it or sell it. As I know this amplifier could potentially bring in hundreds of dollars based on other sellers on ebay. But I think I kind of found a diamond in the rough if it still works. And even if it needs some repair, there is a local electronics repair shop not far from where I live that would repair it for a reasonable price. It's quite nostalgic considering about the time this amplifier was produced, is right around the same time that I started getting into installing car audio.

These were their first amps ever produced( saphire came out a few years later, as ‘entry level’), then the Ms series, ( zpa series)then the ZX series, titanium, xenon, xs- all their amps were 1 ohm stereo,=2ohm bridged( they were ahead of their time back then, imo)cyclone subwoofer was very innovative for the time; thats why I miss old pg, bc they weren’t worried about trying something different- all made by hand in portland, off of Decatur drive, or street or way( their Limited edition amps, like sofa, reactor, route66, were very cool, imo) one day Id love to have a reactor(& thats class a/b 1154!!!!!!!!)

  • @krismichalsky

I still have several old school PG amps in my collection. I have two M25's and one M50. I still want to get my hands on an M100 however, they are beastly.... Oh and these amplifiers sound beautiful BTW...
Also, judging by the way that the M25 dyno'd I bet it needs new rail and filter caps. I've seen M25's put out more than that before.
On Edit: These amps had what's called optical isolators also called an optical diode. These devices used light to pass the signal onto the amplifier power section of the amp. This allowed the 12v power supply and the power amplifiers to basically be separated by using light signals instead of a hard wire. This kept out power supply noise and what not.

Beautiful amps, Jeff! Thanks for letting Dean put them on the Dyno.
Do you still have any of your tiny *Xtant 1.1i* Class D full-range SQ monoblocks that Dean can put on the amp Dyno?
I purchased 2 or 3 of those *Xtant 1.1i* amps from you out of your comp car back in the day on the ECA forums.
I used them for a long time in several installs with great results. The last install they were in before I sold them on DIYMA was a 1st Gen (BMW) Mini Cooper S.
I had 6 of the *Xtant 1.1i* monoblocks powering its entire 3-way front stage, plus a *Xtant 301a* monoblock for the *Infinity Beta 15x* subwoofer.
At different times the six *Xtant 1.1i* amps powered a 3-way MB Quart QSD component system, and then the Diamond Audio Technologies (D.A.T.) 1st Gen HEX series 3-way components with the silk tweeters.
Used the *Sony Mobile ES CDX-C910* & *CDX-C90* head units with the *Sony ES XDP-4000X DSP*
    Great sound and good times!
I didn't get into the Phoenix Gold amplifiers until the *PG Ti-series* which were impressive as well.

    Example: 12v/13.8v........40w/60w
You stated between, not rely Bretagne but at those voltages. 12v = 40w and at 13.8v = 60w due to its unregulated power supply.
