    I have taken ballet classes since i were 4 and stopped at the age of 35 after having two boys...no time then. Since then, I am infatuated by ballet and choreography. Now im going back to practice the steps and enjoy what i can possibly do at my age 67. There is no such thing as age, with fitness one can do miracles.
    Thank you for the class.

    Just what I was looking for. I used to ballet as a child and wanted the same simple elements that I remembered. I’d forgotten how hard a barre session could be. I love how despite being nothing like a ballerina just doing a session makes you feel like one.

    I like your video a lot. I'm a martial artist and ballroom dancer and curiosity has led me to research ballet lately and I regret I didn't do so much earlier. When it comes to extension and balance, nothing beats ballet - simple as that. In martial arts, we kick too fast with much power but hardly few people can actually raise their legs slowly and hold it in mid air and slowly put it down. They just don't teach it - you have to figure it out and that's why Bruce lee ended up taking up dancing to improve his extension and balance! :)

    • @TipsOnBalletTechnique

      Hi Franck - thank you for your comment and I am so pleased that you like the video. I actually trained for a long time in Wado Ryu Karate and got my 1st Dan. I was fortunate to compete in Japan a few times and often felt that ballet helped me a lot with my martial arts, especially Kata! Kimberley

    • @esstown
      @esstown 6 лет назад +1

      Go ahead and do ballet! There is nothing stopping you! This thing about needing to start young is a myth. If you are a martial artist and a ballroom dancer then you already have enough of a fitness level to jump right into a beginner classroom and go for it. All you need is a teacher who is willing to be strict (and not just "recreational") about it, so that you can learn it properly and end up really being able to do all those great things with legs, jumps, and turns!! Best wishes to you and I hope you do try!

    • @joylara8200
      @joylara8200 5 лет назад

      Hi Franck I love it how you relate the martial arts to ballet. I’ve always thought martial arts forms as beautiful dances, and the actual fighting can be beautiful (except for knowing it’s violence & pain but that’s that. Martial arts has a purpose other than looking lovely. And besides, a well-aimed kick in a pointe shoe can deliver knockout force, or more, don’t you think? So nice to know Bruce Lee took up dance too!!

    • @sometea4741

    Thanks for making this video Kimberley! I’m going to be 54 soon and still want ballet in my life, so I’m taking a once a week adult class. But as the nature of most adult classes in my area is “mostly recreational”, I really need good videos (and online teachers!) to practice with so that when I’m in class I can practice / remember good technique and hold myself to a high standard. I like the pace of your teaching, you have a lovely voice and presence. :). Aside from looking to gain strength & improve technique, I also hope to improve my ability to remember longer combinations. Your videos are so helpful, and fun! I like the music too. :). Thanks again - I look forward to more with you!

    In this video it is perfectly understandable, as the combo's are longish and it is beginner level. However - I find it more productive when the combinations are not called out all the way through, because I get better practice at remembering combinations, and getting myself back on track if lost. I have even had teachers who bark out the whole combination so loud it feels like a hammer! Have gone home with headache from trying to interpret the music artistically, lol! Online barres are a dream when the talking is all done when the exercise is initially described, and not after the music starts. So pleasant! Love!

    I really liked this video for practicing at home between classes. however I find it a bit difficult to watch the video, hold on to 'the barre' which is in my case the wall and to the movements properly while keeping a good posture and not hitting my feet against the wall during the exercises facing the barre. The ones sideways on the barre are great though.

    • @TipsOnBalletTechnique
      @TipsOnBalletTechnique  6 лет назад +2

      I am glad that you liked the video. You can always practice the 'facing' the barre exercises sideways to the barre if that makes it easier for you and then just repeat it again on the other side. Hope that helps! Kimberley

    I found myself constantly getting confused with foot positions, as in right and left. Like, if the teacher used her left foot in front during fifth position, for some reason, I'd struggle to figure out if I was supposed to copy her or mirror it. What an odd issue of mine. Lol.
    Either way, amazing video! Thank you so much! This has given me such hope! Along with horrible leg pain. Lol. But totally worth it!! Especially since I know it'll be less the more I practice. ^w^

My video of Beginner Ballet Tips takes you through all the basic positions of the feet, arms and more. You can watch the video at: ruclips.net/video/KvsNZISrHv4/видео.html If you’re just getting started it would be safer (and easier) to begin with 3rd position of the feet, which is not as crossed as 5th position. I think I'm actually improving at this. LOL! My legs barely hurt anymore! If you don't mind though, I would like to ask. What is the point of doing these Barre exercises and how do they help you progress in ballet? (The ballet class I went to irl did very similar exercises actually!) Do they improve foot and leg strength? Or do they help in another way? Just curious!

    • @TipsOnBalletTechnique
      @TipsOnBalletTechnique  6 лет назад +2

      Great that you are beginning to feel the improvement! Practicing your ballet at the barre is a great way for you to practice repeating and refining your ballet technique. The majority of exercises that you practice at the barre can also be practiced in the centre. It is a good way to focus on practicing and improving certain steps and those skills can then be transferred into a ballet solo or perhaps repertoire for the stage. It will help to develop the strength in many parts of your body - not just your legs and feet and can help to increase your musicality and artistic understanding as well. Kimberley

      VonSmore: The point of these exercises is to learn to actually dance real ballet. The mathematics of it are long and complex, however, after mastering a complete set of barre and centre exercises (advanced, of course) you will find that, as if by magic, you will be able to dance the classical repertoire!

    Great video to practice in between ballet classes. One quick question - what length of barre are you using in this video? Hello, thank you for checking out my channel. Most professional ballet dancers have spent a number of years training at a full time vocational dance school from about 11 years old and then audition for professional ballet companies at around 18 years old. So in terms of training to become a professional ballerina, 18 years old is too late for most people. However, many people begin ballet as an adult and enjoy taking part in adult ballet classes for many years. - Kimberley.

      Hello Marissa, thank you for checking out my channel. Most professional ballet dancers have spent a number of years training at a full time vocational dance school from about 11 years old and then audition for professional ballet companies at around 18 years old. So for purely classical ballet, yes 17 is quite late to start if you wish to become a professional ballet dancer. However, if you are interested in other dance styles, there are many colleges that specialise in contemporary dance, musical theatre and other genres and take students from 17 to 18 years old to study dance. I hope that helps and I wish you all the best with your dancing! - Kimberley.
