Could a routine around indoor hydroponics with its bright full-spectrum lights help regulate circadian rhythms? The consistent tasks involved in plant care might offer a useful structure to support sleep and overall well-being. Have there been any studies on effect on mental health (specifically SAD in Pacific Northern) with indoor hydroponics?
Good presentation, but I strongly disagree about getting rid of the time changes. Ideally, we would be able to get up at the same time relative to the sun. And then leave the varying amounts of darkness or light for after we get off work. The time changes are at least a clumsy way to try to address that. Ending the time changes would have many bad effects: Force people to get up unnaturally early in the dark all winter. More of us will be spending more time scraping windshields, over more of the year. I had to scrape mine, and then again the car at work. And dangerous ice fog re-forms as you drive More accidents from people not completely scraping their windshields, before the car gets completely warmed up. And warming up a car wastes time and fuel. It’s much safer to drive home after dark, than go to work or school before dawn. Bet you anything fuel consumption and traffic fatalities go up. Force more driving before dawn on dangerous winter streets - fresh black ice and new potholes. Outdoor workers (construction, landscaping, mining, many law enforcement etc.) will find their work even more out of synch if they continue with the tyranny of clock time. If they end it, we'll be sorry. (except in Hawaii, South Florida, and South Texas where there's less frost and less change relative to sunrise)
