  • Matthew was diagnosed with the highest stage of testicular cancer, 3C, at just 24 years old. What started as a series of, "Why me, why now?" questions evolved into what he calls a life of greater purpose. He went from physical fitness instructor to a mental, emotional coach for cancer patients and survivors.
In his conversation with Stephanie, The Patient Story founder, Matthew shares his entire journey from getting diagnosed, chemo and surgery, and how complications (rare ones!) led to building his resilience.
    Video segments:
    1: How Matthew Got Diagnosed
    2. Going through chemotherapy (BEP) and surgeries
    3. Quality of life reflections, including self-advocacy and getting through the hardest times
His full story will be live on thepatientstory.com - link will be updated!

@@erick300k I finished chemo 8 months ago and I’ve been in remission since December 2021 . I know how you’re feeling. It’s the worst. I absolutely hated the fact that everything I ate tasted so bad. And the very first days after you finish the week of Getting chemo are the worst. You don’t have energy at all and you feel so down. I feel you bro, but you got this. You have to get it done so you can get better!

In some ways a frightening story. In other ways profoundly encouraging. In every way a fascinating account. Wonderful to hear you give God the glory throughout your situation. I'm waiting for my testicular cancer diagnosis in a few days and if positive then I'll be remembering your journey for a long time, my friend. Greetings from Scotland 👍

I was diagnosed with testicular cancer last Wednesday, surgery was yesterday as an outpatient and now I’m home. My left testicle literally felt hard As a rock and I had lumps literally everywhere. Waiting for the results is truly killing me!

Hey Matt I watched your video it's amazing what have gone through. I have been going through a lot right now. I was embarrassed at the beginning and now it's been just hard with so many physicals. May o ask how you felt with the embarrassing parts? I also was basicly paralyzed after a very rare surgey two years ago but I told everyone I'm getting out of this dyper. Our of a wheel chair and driving home . Which I did after intense rehab. I smile for my kids and my wife. May I ask how you felt with that part ? How are you now ? May I ask what about infertility ? I'm amazed how you are so positive. Im Mark by the way.

Hi thank you for the comment and I apologize for such late response but hope this finds you well! For me losing so much weight, to feeling like my independence was gone was really difficult at the time. I wanted to hold all of my emotions in especially being a male thinking that was the right thing to do. But as I finally had the courage to open up to Lauren I quickly realized that our vulnerable moments in life are not something that is a weakness instead it is our strength. once I realized that I could open up and share my emotions I was not only able to heal my mental health but also give others the courage to do the same! So my advice for you is to start with opening up to someone you can trust or that can relate such as myself :) and I promise it will slowly relieve alot of the emotional baggage in your life and will create a new purpose in helping others. Hope this helps!

This is the problem with people who give their testicular cancer stories. They mix things up and don’t give enough detail and information
