Thank you Daniel. I am starting (yet again) with kdenlive and your video answered a fundamental question that others didn't. I am doing exactly that same work you are describing, recording the audio with a Zoom microphone and then substituting that for whatever was recorded in mono by my smartphone and until now I had to improvise everything by hand, move tracks as best as I could manage. But that reference and allign function works like a charm.
