- Yep, you read that correctly...
Not only are we putting these basses head to head (and testing you in the process to see if you can actually tell the difference!).
I'm also giving them away... and a bunch of other great bass gear too. In fact, in total I'm giving away over $20,000 of bass goodness!

I had a Fodera and really wanted to like it. I finally had to accept the fact that I was suckered into thinking I was getting something special when in reality, the only thing extraordinary about it is is the price -- and the hype. I sold it and with the money I bought an American Fender (much better) an Ibanez (much better and much better looking) and a Squire J for knock around town gigs and rehearsals and a 5 string Squier Jaguar which is surprisingly good. And had money left over. Best move I ever made.
Good for you. I’m 50 years old now and have been playing bass since I was 14 years old. I love expensive basses and I’ve played tons of them and I can honestly say a good bass guitar shouldn’t cost more than 3 grand TOPS. You can buy a great high quality bass for 800 to 1,000 bucks. Those custom shop Fender Jazz basses that are like 8,000 and so on…. It’s just hype……period.
Well that answered my question. Who would be dumb enough to pay that much money on any guitar.
The sire was vastly nicer to my ears.
Astounding that fodera gets away with those prices.
Exactly.
Don't disagree, but also bear in mind where Fodera guitars are made - this likely results in having to pay their staff more, pay more for rent etc. I think beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder when it comes to anything handmade - and it's hard to put a price on it for someone who loves the look of a Fodera! :)
Fodera is also (usually) made to order, and made in America.
Yep. I thought the Sire sound was fuller, and the Fodera tone a bit trebbly.
@@primovictorian so what, that doesn't warrant 15k. It's more of an art piece/collector's item than a working musician's instrument. And even considering that, it's still way overpriced.
That fodera is beautiful. Solid construction, no frills, amazing tone? Must be a dream to play!
While the Fodera is definitely great and has fantastic tone and sustain, I honestly prefer the Sire because it has significantly more tonal options that really expand the range of what you can do with the bass. Plus, the Sire is way easier to upgrade without damaging the core of what the instrument is. Although, I have to say that the Fodera is probably better for studio work.
Overall, I think the Sire is more of an instrument, and the Fodera is more of a work of art.
1. Is the sire
2. Is the Fodera
But I wouldnt mind taking both
even though tho fodera sounds absoltely amazing
Originally thought first bass was sire until I heard #2 then I thought #2 was sire. That was my final answer. D'oh!
(1) sire & (2) fodera
Does it really sound amazing? Could barely hear the note of the B-string.
Could tell straight away that bass 1 is the Sire because they both have completely different pickups - I was NOT expecting that Fodera to sound as good as it does!
For $15,000 it damn sure should sounds good! Or else it's just wall art.
@@jackzango427 And it's not even pretty
Every of those bases are awesome, but that blue Sire is Gorgeous!
Very nice contest thanks
The first one is the Sire and also Scotts facial expression gave us a hint playing the second one)
Fodera sounds awesome but its kind of bothering me that there is no volume knob at least
1. Sire
2. Fodera
Though tbh I like the Sire way more
Seiken me also
same hear!
1 sire 2 Fedora
Most of us here
Andrew nerdalert “Fedora”? Lol!
I need a 5 string so I can finally slap that sweet riff from my "name is mud"
I did it with a 4 just heighten the action 1 twist in the. Bridge and tune to b e a d
Lol 😆
Ct bass!
I have a 1st Gen Sire V3 ... And it is an AMAZING bass for the price, and bought it sight unseen based in your previous videos on Sire. Thanks for showing the world's best bargain bass!
Awesome this exists now. Would have love to be In your bass course back in the day. Just dont have the time w 6 kids and full time job. Hats off to you you bro. Keep it up.
Am I crazy for thinking the Sire sounded way better?
Maybe it's the looks that tricks the brain. The fodera looks horrendous in my opinion.
wronghanded86 nope, you’re not crazy. I like it too.
Nope. Me too.
I think the Sire sounds much better.
Nah, I preferred the sound of the Sire as well. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
1 - Fodera
2 - Sire
Dang, they both sound sick! Arghhhhh!
Deane Siakimotu wrong
@@ihH6053 dammit!
I love the Fodera. Omg. So very cool sound. No need to modify anything. No need for knobs. Love it.
First one I think was the Sire and the second one was the Fodera. Man both of those basses are so beautiful! Love your videos man keep up the amazing work!
1. Sire
2. Fodera
I love the sound of the Sire more though :-)
For me the 1st is SIRE
The second is FODERA
Gorgeous Bass 😂👍
I was a bit disappointed you told us the answer. Thank goodness I stopped the video, and went off to listen to a couple of tracks on my Victor Wooton albums. Then I went back to the top and played your video again. There was no mistaking the rich, full low tones of the Fodera.
Fun game, let's play again sometime!
I didn't enter to win, because if I won, it would have truely been pearls before swine. I'll stick with my old Cort, and imaging I am a better player, and hearing a Fodera in my head.
I can't explain the joy I get from watching you play, and the enthusiasm you have for the instrument.
God bless.
Just bought a cheap bass and looking for lessons as an almost new starter, clicked on the giveway link, watched the video about Scott's Bass Lessons, now I have found what I was looking for! This video is a very effective made propaganda! Now I dream about swapping my replica with one of these treasures, cheers for the great videos from Paris!
Bass 1: Sire
Bass 2: Fodera
Honestly I love the sound of the Sire!! currently have a ibanez mezzo but I would love that sire!!
1. Sire
2. Fodera
I have always loved fodera but never could afford them great video
I like the 1st one and the second one with the long note holding a long time
I dig the sound of the Sire, but omg does that Fodera sound great. Amazing.
1: Sire
2: Fodera
The tone on that fodera gives me chills 😂
Both costs more than my life.
😂
Hey Scott! This is unrelated to the video, but I wanted to give you a shout regarding the glove. Earlier this week, I started having some nasty nerve pain in my left hand that made playing my bass virtually impossible. Then last night, I thought about your glove and decided to give it a try. It's worked wonderfully. It still hurts to play, but the glove makes a massive difference. I got two hours in last night and another hour this morning. Sincere thanks and best wishes from across the pond!
Hi, there, Scott, hope you're doing fine and the world is smiling at you; i'd just like to say having watched a few of your lessons online, i have learnt so much and you explain everything so well that anyone, especially a stupid old man such as myself, can enjoy learning to play the Bass and what's more, understand music and be able to appreciate music far better than ever before, i am on my way to purchase the whole course and enjoy learning more :) Cheers, and best wishes, Totoo
PS, don't worry about giving away things, more will come back your way when you give freely :)
Bless your heart
1st: Sire
2nd: Fodera
And damnnn that fodera’s got some grease in it
Hey, u know
I would not mind having a 15k bass as my first one ever lol
Lol I agree
1. Sire
2. Fedora
Loving the channel. Bass playing has improved no end watching the lessons 👍
Got it wrong! I’m genuinely impressed by the Sire’s big, well rounded tone
1.Fodera
2.sire
1. Sire
2. Fodera
It's not just about the sound, but the face you make when you play the Fodera is like "O My God, This Bass Is Mmhhhhhhhhhhh"
I guessed the opposite of reality. I thought the dual jazz pickups were pushing the brightness up on the second bass, but it was just an amazing sounds coming out of the single pickup. They are both beautiful.
i'm a member of the academy so i assume the 14 day free trial won't work for me
also i'm not receiving the membership codes. is there a problem on my end or yours?
Me when Scott talks about the Fodera : "I'm exited to see that bass"
Me when I see the Fodera : "God it looks awful"
(Edit : Wow a bunch of peeps think like me i was trying to stay polite but what I really thought about the Fodera is : "Fuck it looks like shit")
screw yall
Yeah me too🤣
I think it's hideous.
Same
Yeah I’d love it but I’m not a super fan of these wild and wacky shapes on basses and guitars.
Fiesta be like
“Yeah, here’s a piece of mahogany and maple with some wires and emg pickups. That’ll be $13,000 dollars
Bass #1 : Fodera
Bass #2 : Sire.
It’s ludicrously generous to do these giveaways so often. You seriously rock, Scott!
I was honestly confused at first. But basing on how you described it at first, I listened which is most probably can still be adjusted and what would most probably stay in its tune, tone and no other adjustments needed (meaning no need to have controls or something). Sooo yea, 1. Sire 2. Fodera 🤘😳😳💘💘 both captured my heart tho so nice!!
1 SIRE
2 FODERA
You have to train the poker face hahahah :D
Lol just look at his face, even if I was deaf...
Absolutely sure that first bass was a #Hofner and for certain that #2 bass was the Rickenbacker -4001 without Au’ doubt !!!😎🥊🌿✨
SICK!!!!! Thanks.
1 had to be the sire.
2 was so raunchy!
Heck of a giveaway Scott!
They're both really good, I'm looking into this sire
1. I believe that the first it the Sire
2. And I believe that the second is the Fodera
I’ve been wanting a bass to play for my grandfathers church for years, but sadly my family can’t afford to buy me one and it’s really heartbreaking for me. I pray that I’ll win one it doesn’t even matter which on it is, I’d be grateful to have either on. And even if I don’t win which I really hope I do, all I’ll be able to do is dream about having one. It doesn’t even have to be any of those bass guitars that you’re showing, it could be a ugly one, as long as it plays good I’m cool with that.

The workmanship and playability of those Fodera’s is beyond question, but is it just me? Who else thinks they look utterly *ridiculous?*
They are ugly but sound nice
@@danielestrada8932 If someone was going to give me one I'd be very happy to take it off their hands. I'd just close my eyes when playing it!
I will agree with you but I’ll also take a Carl Thompson over any Fodera any day.
It is so ugly.
1: Sire
2: Fodera
Rationale: I own a Jazz bass and it sounds almost exactly like that Sire when I use the neck pickup (just a lot more bottom heavy because it's passive). The Fodera has a lot more mid range due to the pickup it uses and the positioning of said pickup.
I liked both sounds but I can tell that the fodera had Scott way more excited about playing. They say it's more about the fingers than the actual instrument but you have to admit that some instruments engage the player way more than others.
Bass 1 : cool bass {Sire}
Bass 2 : Completely amazing Bass {Fodera}
Bass1: Sire
Bass2: Fodera
Edit: Cool! I loved the sound of both. I like the mid range punch in the fodera, but for my style i actually prefer the Sire.
The fodera is just beautiful to look at, wow
Which the best choice ? Sire v9 or Yamaha trb 1005
1- Sire
2 - Fodera
god... Sire is like 20 times cheaper and still amazing...
To me the Sire bass's best, fuller sounded
you guys missed something..
I swear Scott gave us hint on sample (with long sustain of Fodera)..
so ... 1 , Fodera
2, Sire
wait... it's shakin?!
Would you recommend a warwick rockbass rather than a sire v7?
The sire has the sound I like, did you hear that percussive low end when he strikes the string, oh boy! It's kinda like the Music Man signature click (as an example) only on this bass it's percussive...
1st was definitely the neck pickup which Fodera doesn't have lol
Also it's clearly hear that 2nd bass have no pots
I'm guessing 1 was the sire, bass 2 was a bit more punchy and warm. You need new gloves as well😂
He wears the gloves cuz hes got a neurological condition where his hand shakes if there isnt pressure applied to it. I dont think he's too concerned about the fanciness of the glove lol. I think he mentions it in a video
@@freefallingband I know why the gloves are worn but those things are pretty worn out. Look at the index finger
I could tell the Fodera was bass 2 by your face. You couldn't help yourself. I feel you.
I like the #1 bass more and I thought it was Fodera based on your happy grin. Opposed to angry grin on #2. Next time need to close eyes and just listen.
To be honest I am just starting loving bass and maybe I'm used to cheaper bass sounds. Still I liked #1 more.
Great channel. It really reinforces my willingness to learn bass.
1. Sire 2. Fodera. I’d like the sire more tbh lol
In Ukraine for $800 you can buy a 2008 Škoda
No you can't :( Believe me, i'm ukrainian

But the thought of driving it through Kievan traffic is what makes me want to take the metro and take the bass.
@@Cellogrammaton I'm from the region directly near the Hungarian-Ukrainian border, and I spoke of a car from here. So, you don't have to go through Kiev's traffic
Really good presentation,I'm a number one fan,Thank you, actually they we're really similar at a guess I thought the least expensive base was number one?keep up the good work,Fred hammer new zealand
1st is the lovely sire!
2nd is the adoring Fodera!
Absolute massive tone
Sire #1 Fodera #2, less fret rasp on the Fodera and more even tone throughout, but the Sire still sounds sweet
When will you do a giveaway for the left handed bass players???
I was just about to make the same comment. Sire makes left-handed models-- how about a lefty Sire if a lefty was to win?
And that is why as a lefty that I play right handed.
Never
Re-sell the right handed if you win?..
I'm entering the competition, and I promise straight away that if I win first prize I send it back straight away as a gift :D You deserve it, Scott.
Both sound amazing! Fodera
1 Sire
2 Fodera
What justifies such a high price? I imagine construction and materials are top notch but still, it is a one-sound instrument
MEGAMIGA yeah, I’m hoping if I win I get the sire. Way more useful.
well, the name and where it's built also affects it
@@TCharlieA Yes, I think quality can go up to a certain point and thus price. Beyond that point, you are paying for hype/prestige.
That Sire really is damn nice for the price. Wow.
First thought's was Sire 1st Fordora 2nd, both sounded great, for the price difference it's amazing at such a good job Sire have done 🎸😀🎸
Am I the only one who thinks the Fodera Bass is ugly...
definitely not the only one.
That bass is awful
Fodera makes many more appealing Basses. This is certainly an acquired taste, but Fodera makes the sexy as well as anyone else.
The Sire sounded way better Price-Quality perspective.
That Sire bass looks so cool I wish I could afford one.
Wow, youre giving a lot bro. I really have learned a lot of things with your videos, but if a win anything, even winning the scottbass membership would make me really happy.
About the basses.
1. Fodera
2. Sire
I failed
Both sound actually very nice. Nr. 1 is the Sire IMO, the second one is the Fodera :)
The Sire sounded great but the Fodera... damn! The solid low end and crispiness. I knew right away .#2 was the Fodera.
I thought number 1 was the Federa.
Any way the sound I like the most was exactly the number 1.
Great video.
Seeing as how bass #2 has more "eq" event maybe compression on it, It must be the Sire which has way more on-board electronics. (that's what I thought until the reveal)
Hi Scott, I would like to give the 14 day free trial a shot. However, I'm not comfortable giving my CC for something free(?) If i decide to enroll I'll happily give you all the info you require. Do I have any other options? Thanks!
Hey Scott are you going to Let's Rock Scotland in June? I'll be there to see Mark King!
I can't believe how awesome that Sire sounds!
I guessed right... then you did a reveal! I though the competition was to guess!
Thought that the sire was #1 just from the speed in the transition - but won't mind taking both, and spending a few weeks in intensive lessons on either bass!
Personally prefered the sound of the sire. Both sound great and both are gorgeous.
bass 1- sire definitely has that jazzbase esque tone going there
bass 2 - fodera, pretty much what I expected it to sound like with that pickup
I'm not playing cause my luck sucks so bad I'd owe u a bass if i did play lmao! But i think i too am now in love with Fadera!
I just can't imagine how it is to play Fodera........ probably is like dreams come true :)
Bass 1 - Sire
Bass 2-Fodera
Mannnnnn I’d take either 🤗 great video as always Scott!
1 Sire
2 Fodera
To be perfectly honest, I would be happy with anything; I am doing this for a family member, and they would be absolutely thrilled if this passed through. Keep on rocking!
1: Sire
2: Fodera
Amazing. Both sound amazing!
1. Is the sire
2. Fodera
That fodera is wicked! Would love to get my hands on one if i could.
To me:
Bass 1: Sire
Bass 2: Fodera
I'm in love with the 2nd gen Sire basses really baaad :D
Insane killin' fat sound from the Sire V9, thanx to Sire & Marcus Miller to design so amazing instruments at this incredible cost, best deal ever..... Already have a V7 Vintage Swamp Ash, sounds incredible!!!! Big up Scott for making all your free courses so nice!!! On the second part, the sound of the Fodera is just woooooow with no control, no volume, no tone, nothin'!!!!
1. Sire
2. Fodera
Big fan of Fodera, but man that Sire sounds beautiful. Then again, Scott makes every bass he plays sound good.
Bass #1 - Sire
Bass #2 - Fodera
While I loved the Sire, the Fodera had an incredible dynamic range.
The second one (Fodera) definitely sounded better. I really like the look of that blue Sire.
1 sire, 2 fodera. Anyone who knows AJ's Hiromi work will instantly recognize the pull off "growl". Very nice... whoever won that is soooooo lucky.
Federal is nice and bright. Snappy for that funk
They are absolutly awsome 😍
