The back ground music was perfect and the looks on the EWING Women's faces were priceless. They finished the scene with glasses clinking and freeze framing Jock's Portrait.. PERFECT ending!
Only J.R. Ewing could make, "Well, Bobby! To your good health, and very long life", sound like a threat...
R.I.P. JOCK EWING 1909-1981!!!
After that note, Bobby should have hired food tasters
"Welllll, Bobbuh - to your GOOD HEALTH and VERY LONG LIFE !!!"
LOL!!!! - JR RULES!
That's just Jock's way of screwing with them. LOL
I wondered how DALLAS would have been if Jim Davis didnt die in real life? He certainly made it impossible for any other actor to successfully take over the role of Jock Ewing. He was only in 77 episodes and just look at the the strong influence he had on the show for its entire 13 seasons along with the 5 episode miniseries. The portrait of Jock also established that Jock was still a very powerful force on DALLAS. Poor Howard Keel, he was on the show longer and yet he was still second banana.
Howard Keel was a far better actor though
That’s the effect Davis had on the role, they did the same when Larry Hagman died and they had a portrait of JR in the last half of the second season of the 2012 reboot and kept it going through the third and last season. Both characters were the symbol of the darker side of big oil, just a shame that the reboot was canceled and left so many things left open like how can you leave off with JR having an illegitimate daughter!?
Ewing Oil must never be owned by anyone other than a Ewing...guess that went to hell. lol
Well, not really. The Ewings were forced to sell the original Ewing Oil by the Justice Department. The later renamed Ewing Oil wasn't founded by Jock so when it changed hands it wasn't bound by Jock's will.
The feds don’t count as Ewing’s?
At the end Cliff Barnes got his dirty psws on Ewing Oil and so did Carter McKay.
Jock was a mans man he ran that company that way its suppose to be ran he would've turned in his grave if he Knew Cliff owned the company at one time
@TheJaking87 The summary that Harve read did not mention Amanda, but it was a large will, so it stands to reason that somewhere in there was a provision for her.
@bigb1716 And now in the new series, Jocks Grand Kids continue the battle. John Ross and Christopher.
There will be two winners because that is how Bobby and JR wanted it.
35% for each brother plus 10% for Ray, Gary and Miss Ellie in which it equals to 100%.

This entire storyline could've been called "War of the Ewings." It was indeed a war between the brothers.
Larry Hagman kept the Jim Davis as Jock Ewing Oil painting in his house after the show ended..
Is that painting still located at Larry Hagman's house but this time that his wife owns it?
It was sold at a auction..Larry Hagman family no more own it.
I thought Bobby won in the end, but at that point, it was kind of like "Work together or else" but Bobby & JR were in competition for the rest of the 1980's, until Bobby got fed up and didn't want to work with him anymore.
@LBF522 And he also gave voting shares to John Ross, then a toddler.
@bluenail03 Exactly. Abby stepped up her game to get Gary
Thanks.
it did more than leak; it took up practically an entire season! But your point is important to set the facts strait. semper fi
Watch Harv mouth and eyes at the very beginning when he says "After one year" trying be dramatic.. LOL
What a set of rules laid by Jock Ewing for his two boys to live by for a full year.
Please do give me thumbs up if you enjoyed watching this clip of DALLAS with JR and Bobby listening carefully to what the lawyer, Harv Smithfield, read as it pertains to Ewing Oil. ©®

Bobby won after some profits came in at the very last second.
In reality, JR should have been given full control of Ewing Oil with the family have non voting shares. I get the need for drama but to have them compete for control would only destroy the company in the long run.
I had the same artist do the same life like Oil Portrait. 24''x30'' It's amazing .. The Artist is out of glendale california named Ro Kim. You can google his work at Ro's Gallery. There you will see the Copy of Jock's Portrait.
Jock Lay out The Rules for his Company
Bobby
Bobby won the contest with at the last second they were just ending the total up and it was in JR's favor untill a deal came thru at the last minute for Bobby and helped him win.
Bobby won, but like 11abdestruct said Jock really wanted them to work together.
Bobby did win. But, I forgot the details because it's been a while since I've watched the episodes (watching series again now on DVD). Somehow they do end up working together.
Does anyone remember which brother won? J.R. or Bobby?
@nrkgalt Yes that was ridiculous as well.
How could Jock leave Southfork to Miss Ellie? It wasn't Jock's to leave. It was already Miss Ellie's.
Southfork Ranch was owned by Aaron Southworth, Miss Ellie's father. And even after Jock saved the ranch with his oil money, the ranch was stilled titled in Aaron Southworth's name. In fact, he left the ranch to Garrison Southworth, Miss Ellie's brother. But because Garrison was presumed dead, the ranch went to Ellie.
Texas is a community property state, but an inheritance is considered separate property, which means the ranch was 100% Ellie's. That is why when Miss Ellie was going to give the ranch to Garrison Southworth in Season 2, all Jock and JR could do was complain about it.
The storyline is totally unrealistic, unless Jock somehow purchased Southfork off screen between season 2 and season 5.
Jock's will would have been thrown out in real life. Texas is a community property state, and by law half of Ewing Oil should have belonged to Miss Ellie.
Even if Jock founded the company as a single man, most of the growth occurred while he was married to Miss Ellie.
Jock could have disposed of his half anyway he saw fit, but the courts should not have allowed him to dispose of the entire company in his will.
The writers of the show acknowledged this legal truth when Miss Ellie threatened to divorce Jock. A lawyer told Jock that Ellie could get half the company and Jock responded that he would rather sell "every lock, stock, and barrel". This is when JR negotiated a sell of Ewing Oil to Westar, only to back away once Ellie and Jock reconciled.
Just thought of another thing . . . Wouldn't it had been just delicious if an attorney for Jock's first wife Amanda had showed up at Southfork and served papers on Harv Smithfield challenging the will and saying that Amanda was cheated out of her share of the company?
When did that hqappen?
@bigb1716 , Jock's Idea sounded good but he forgot about JR. JR being the oldest son allways felt he should inherit and own Ewing Oil alone period. he didn't want to share ownership of the company so any deals he made didn't have to be approved by the rest of the family. sure Bobby could work in Ewing oil but he couldn't stop JR from doing bad deals if JR owned the company. JR was just selfish.
JR was to win and then Bobbys last deal kicks through just as JR was going let teh will stand where the brother lost would not be a 50 50 partner as Jock wanted. When that happened then Bobby took control. I own it lol all of them and the new 2012,
snowdeer, phebe and bronche died from christina
I can't remember the dialogue for this entire scene, but did Jock happen to include his first wife, Amanda, in his will? Like Sue Ellen, she was in a sanitarium.
Ahh dats nothin' 51% , I own 99.9% of Bankrupt Oil Company and I run it the way I want !
If Jock declared in his Will that the company could never be owned by anyone other than an Ewing. Then how did Cliff Barnes gain control of the company?
The company became dismantled and sold off per order of the Justice Dept due to JR's shenanigans.
lol, fake jock
