No spinoff can top the sheer epicness that was Persona 4 Platinum. You could spend the entire year in Inaba without any time skips! In real time! The new social links with Mr. Morooka, Ms. Kashiwagi, Mitsuo, and Funky Student were incredible. Not to mention the new romance option with Kanji. George was such a great addition to the cast; he fit in seamlessly with the group and was so great at everything! And there were so many events, too. Five festivals, Hanukkah with Tanaka, the zombie apocalypse...good times.
It's kinda funny that they are making a rhythm game of P3. At the end of P4:DaN's story mode I was thinking 'Isn't this where the Great Seal is?' I kept replaying that stage just to see if I could catch a glimpse of Door-kun.
I'm not lying, when Persona Q2 was teased. That simple image of the Phantom Thieves logo and a Spring Release Date. I stood up from my chair, went in my car, drove to Gamestop, and spent $120 on a Nintendo 2DS *Yes, the new one that plays 3DS games*, and I am sitting on it until PERSONA Q2 COMES THE FUCK OUT.
I just want for Nanako to hear about the Phantom Thieves and that's when she gets the gun. She just wants to be a Phantom Thief herself. And then Dojima has to question his own kid about whether or not she's a criminal. Just allow it Atlus.
I kinda disagree on the Naoto needs to be kept ambiguous. Cause at the end of P4 she pretty much moved past her whole gender vs detective complex and even in P4 Golder then the super ending you can see her dress in a way more femine way..hell all the cast at the end of P4 Golden the way they look really reflects the growth the characters had with the protagonist. Kanji dreses like a proper student now ect.
I'd rather they split the difference between Persona X Detective and Persona 4. A woman's suit that shows her curves a bit, longer but not much longer hair, make her 2-3 inches taller, maybe ditch the hat. And give her a Snatcher-style trench coat.
i heard that Futaba was the pick for the manga, not Makoto. But then again, theres somewhere between 2-5 currently running manga adaptations for P5, so who knows.
Actually guys, sorry if I'm sounding like a nerdy ass wipe, but in the P3 side of the story in PQ, we have Elizabeth telling the events of PQ to the P3 Protagonist. Look at the beginning and ending of the game on the P3 Side. Of course the P3 Protagonist took the story to the grave, but people in universe are aware that it happened. And by people I mean 2.
Demon The Kitsune If you REALLY want to make that joke, look up P3 Makoto's last name, and then look up Mishimas's full name. The movie got REALLY unlucky with that.
Atlus confirmed that the P3 and P5 dancing games don't have a story mode and therefore are probably not canon. Just a convenient escuse to use better 3D models and remixes Also confession: Persona Q is actually my favorite game on the 3DS.
God I hope they don't try to make these dancing games canon. (Especially persona 3 dan where as pat & woolie said 3 is dark so this is tonal whiplash) I don't think p3 needs to have extra story squeezed in that will make the persona universe continuity even more fucked. - Rise fights elizabeth and because she believes and wants to save everyone her persona evolves into one that can fight but she also gets to keep her sensing powers without them weakening even a little. Not to mention the fanfic extra characters who's unneeded i. E marie, that random chick from dan. Just make them fun dancing games I don't feel like ignoring more canon that's unecessary.
I'm with Pat and his anger on Persona/Megami Tensei resisting giving MCs canon names. I bought Persona Q today in anticipation for Q2, and even though Persona 4 MC's canon fucking name is Yu Narukami, I'm limited to six letters for first and last names and I can't do it. And that SUCKS. Once you release spinoff games and anime and stuff with the same name, you gotta keep that shit consistent.
Thanks for this. Could you also upload the discussion about the Emoji movie? I feel like that was the one of the strongest part of this podcast especially leading up to the twitch emoji shilling.
And you're going to win, because only the craziest people will actually fight something that's been accepted for almost a decade and was used in a Canon entry (Persona Q), plus now we already have a Makoto and it would be asinine for Atlus to make this confusion when they already have an out for themselves.
Persona 2 is one of those things that does what Woolie did, where the main character's name is Innocent Sin is "Tatsuya Suou" and in Eternal Punishment not only is Tatsuya now a side character who's name couldn't be changed, but Maya, who was a side character in Innocent Sin, has the option to CHANGE her name. And let me just get this out there, while you're reading. I'm AGAINST the Akira Kurusu name, because I LOVE the theory that Joker's the son of a character from Persona 1, Reiji Kido,, making him the teenage version of Takashi Kido, who was conceived during Eternal Punishment. I LOVE legacy stuff like that, and there's a lot connecting them, a few of which I will name now. They have similar hair style to Reiji adult self (Joker's is more unkept though), their starting Personas use the same element (Eiha), Joker is the first protagionist in the entire series to NOT use swords as his primary melee weapon and instead uses Knives, which Reiji sold knives as an adult, Reiji did magic tricks in his spare time and to recruit demons and some of Joker's idle animations feature impressive feats of dexterity (when you're using Leblanc as a hideout, just watch Joker's hand when he spins that phone, or watch his hand when he's studying after school), Takashi Kido WOULD be around 16-17 years old in 2016, early scripts of Persona 5 had the name Takashi all over the place, when Joker first awakens to Arsene, he gets a large X mark across his face, much like the scar Reiji proudly displayed as a teenager (and now covers with bangs as an adult because you can't be an edgy fuckwit like that when trying to support a family). Finally? Reiji's backstory basically is what you get if you combined Ryuji's backstory and the backstory of "THE SECRET FINAL PARTY MEMBER WHO'S IDENTITY IS A MASSIVE DAMN SPOILER" so it would serve as a sort of poetry. Plus, Persona just turned 25, why NOT capitalize on that? You know, besides the fact that nobody but a handful of people ever fucking played Persona 1.
GSSAGE7 what you just said would have givin more depth to persona 5.then being fan service for people who only played persona 3, with character who just stands around with yes men surrounding him . Atlus would never think to act on those action because they want persona1-2 cast to be separate from persona 3-5 even tho there suppose to be from the same series. While wanting people to go back to those series and play them, even tho other people will just say skip persona 1-2 because it doesn't matter in persona 3-5.which they should make it matter
nemsis turboverdirve To be fair, Hashino (the director of the series since 3) left the series months ago, and is being replaced, so my hopes may one day be realized!
We must spread Takashi Kido to all corners of the Internet, so that EVERYONE knows about it. Maybe we can meme it into canon, much like the rumors of Subaru City. I almost want to send it to them in the next podcast, but I can't think of a way to make that sound dignified.
....I've beaten P3 several times, watched the P3DMN trailer several times, and I have no idea what they're talking about at around 5:30. It's making me upset.
Yes it's from the anime but pat states it sticks and is official come arena. And arena was announced before the anime. With info on the wiki which a friend pointed me too and I at the time didn't believe it was real, cause yu sounds fucking dumb.
GSSAGE7 Did you even read my comment you idiot? Me and pat state it came first obviously but the NAME because canon in arena (they stated the original anime isn't canon the golden one is.) It became the CANON NAME in arena because it's defacto canon. And pat just bringing it up doesn't make him wrong, it just means he brought it up! Next time apply brainpower instead of lip power
Is someone out there actually saying this spinoff shit is canon? I need a big ol [CITATION] for that shit, cuz all these games are the most non-canon shit i've seen in a long ass time. Unless this word is coming down from someone super official, it's making me think that no one in the Zaibatsu knows what the term "canon" actually means.
technoskull uh, dude. The Arena games are canon. Dancing All Night is canon. Persona Q is canon (even though it doesn't matter because memory wipes). This is what Atlus does. Everything is canon.

Because it's consensual and non-abusive? Two things Kamoshida most definitely wasn't? I can see finding the power imbalance between the two weird (as with any of the other older girls), but it being on the same level as the Kamoshida situation is quite absurd.
Yeah whole dating adults was pretty weird.. some of em feel a bit less weird.. like CHiaya and Tae cause they feel either on the younger side or dont have professions that cements them as Adults. Its kinda weird tho I know they did that because having tons of school confidants wouldnt make sense with the setting/story they were going for. But yeah.. I get people as the player like Kawakami but from the main character's point of view its unethical as hell lol.
Erm, Takemi definitely feels like an adult; she runs her own clinic, for YHWH's sake! Chihaya's definitely feels more college-age, though. Also, I don't really mind the adult relationships, since Joker's a rebel whose "main" Persona is a notorious ladies' man in his own stories (there's a reason why Japan made Lupin III a womanizer as well).
Tae's a fully licensed doctor who worked in a big study for what was implied to be years. Seriously, she's probably the oldest one, but people keep acting like Kawakami is, which annoys me. Is it the Punk look?
I dunno, I just can't really get into the characters I suppose. I mean, don't get me wrong, there aren't really any terrible characters (debateably, I still fucking hate Morgana), but I suppose the issue I have is that I enjoy the supporting cast a hell of a lot more than the Phantom Thieves. I kinda feel like Morgana, Ryuji, Ann and Makoto fall flat really fast, in a way that mains characters in previous games didn't, at least for me. I mean, let me put it this way: I'd be mmmmm.uch more interested to see a spinoff about Iwai, or Sae, or hell, I'd LOVE a Hazana Chapter-esque game about Akechi, that I would more than just more Phantom Thieves. Kinda just...bored of most of them. Not only that, I don't really find the villains all that interesting. Guys like Kamoshida, Kaneshiro and that, just seem like...just evil guys. And not in a corny way. And I lose a lot of interest in them because of it. Just the other day I completely forgot Kamoshida's name, simply because I didn't find him memorable enough to remember it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Okumura as a villain a lot, and with as many villains as this game has, I wasn't expecting Adachi 2.0. In the case of the man in the black mask...eh...as much as I love that character, I'm...kinda...tired of Star Wars twists. I felt like they coulda done something similar with that character in a slightly more unique way than do what they did. I actually found the soundtrack kinda disappointing too, and it hurts to say that, 'cause I love the genres that they use in the game. I suppose I'll have to wait for the dancing game remixes to see if they improve on them (it's not that they're bad songs, they're just not the kind I'd put on my phone, like songs from the other Persona games). It still does some things great though, dungeons are hit and miss for me but the Pyramid and Spaceport I absolutely adored. Visually the game is amazing in not only the characters, but the world and menus, though I will single out that, though I'm partial to Kaneko and Doi's work on the P2 games and remakes, the characters in P5 are some of Soejima's best work...though I still say Naoto is his best designed character. I enjoyed the gameplay in fights a hell of a lot more better as well, though that was...never really why I played the Persona games. Social Links are still good, wouldn't say necessarily better or worse than the last couple lf games. ...I dunno. I guess it's that, unlike everyone else, it wasn't until I got to the Pyramid that I actually started to like the game (I only really kept playing because people convinced me it got better, I rarely give games this much of a chance). Though I will say I can perfectly see why people love it so much, and if you do, fantastic dude.
WungoBongoVA Tom Yeah it sounds like one of those cases of personal taste not lining up with the content. Like there's nothing really wrong per se but you just don't really connect with it. I have a similar thing with Mad Max Furry Road.
Nanako....with a gun.
That's FREE MONEY, ATLUS.
Spaceman2921 Nanako....with a gun.....doing gunkata....
With Shinya Oda as the final boss. Winner gets the hat, loser gets smoked.
Say your fucking prayers, -Nanako- big bro.
To be fair theu did plan to add Nanako in P4A it got turned down
“You WILL take me to junes”

MadDog Hoek According to the concert (where all this was announced), Nanako is already a Phangirl.
May I ask for a link to this info?
I kinda disagree on the Naoto needs to be kept ambiguous. Exarch of Justice don't think too much of it it's clearly just woolies tomboy fetish showing.
Too bad they mishandled her character as fan service character.
Mishandled?
I'd rather they split the difference between Persona X Detective and Persona 4. A woman's suit that shows her curves a bit, longer but not much longer hair, make her 2-3 inches taller, maybe ditch the hat. And give her a Snatcher-style trench coat.

Nanako instead of having a persona should just call dojima to shoot the other player
Pancakes are the key like memory is the key but better

wow [CRAZY TALK] sure did a number on pat in this.
Yosuke is just going to be Answer.
(Persona 5 Manga makes Makoto the love interest)
WELP, time to read the Manga.
>it's not Futaba
into the trash it goes
Pat doesn't know shit, Makoto hasn't even appeared in the manga.
Which Makoto? P3 Makoto? lol
Demon The Kitsune If you REALLY want to make that joke, look up P3 Makoto's last name, and then look up Mishimas's full name.

Le Dom
Thank god!
P5 dancing should just be Joker trolling the shit out of Sae.
They're kinda canon.
Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night; now with dancing DOORS! :D
"the animation looks good" and that's how Pat made P5A an absolute travesty
God I hope they don't try to make these dancing games canon. They just confirmed the dancing games won't be canon
SuddenlyIndebt except persona 4 dancing all night
15:40 if only I had artistic skills. I'd draw that Yosuke right away.
Good to see that Pat completely missed the "just because you forgot about what happened, doesn't mean that it didn't happen at all" theme of PQ.
Solidus113 already took care of it here.
ruclips.net/video/USaWTDZ-IW8/видео.html
If they did p5 arena, dojima should be basically John wick era Keanu with some more Grey in his beard
Wooot Makoto!
I will fight for the P3 protag's name being Minato Arisato. Get that Makoto shit out of here.
And you're going to win, because only the craziest people will actually fight something that's been accepted for almost a decade and was used in a Canon entry (Persona Q), plus now we already have a Makoto and it would be asinine for Atlus to make this confusion when they already have an out for themselves.
Boy I sure hope so.
Kage1713 Japanese fans have first dibs at naming. Makoto it is.
guess what! minako's name will alwase be minako.

....I've beaten P3 several times, watched the P3DMN trailer several times, and I have no idea what they're talking about at around 5:30. It's making me upset.
Minato doing a happy fun time dance over the spot he died.
Yu Narukami was from the anime not arena. P.S. Akira Kurusu is the name from the manga which have changed before.
Yes it's from the anime but pat states it sticks and is official come arena.

mark Ervine But that's wrong. The ANIME was first, and it carried over.
GSSAGE7
Did you even read my comment you idiot?
Me and pat state it came first obviously but the NAME because canon in arena (they stated the original anime isn't canon the golden one is.) It became the CANON NAME in arena because it's defacto canon.
And pat just bringing it up doesn't make him wrong, it just means he brought it up!
Next time apply brainpower instead of lip power
If Persona 5 Arena doesn't have a playable Nanako, then WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING ATLUS
We want playable Nanako in Persona 5 Arena spread the word
And now I know how I'm doing my new game plus
#Kawakami
Her and Ann is best!
I want a platinum Persona spinoff
God, no wonder Pat and Woolie have never played through the first 2(3), if they hate dungeon crawlers that much.
So the P5 protagonist's official name is Akira right?
Spencer Sharpe I'm pretty sure it's just the name used in the manga, but I wouldn't mind if Akira turned out to be the canon name.
Yes Akira Is currently the only Canon name
It's Ren Amamiya
Who does the protagonist get romantic with in the manga?
Matoto
If they do a P5 Arena it would be a ps4 exclusive obviously but might decrease it's sales since P4 if I'm not mistaken sold pretty well
Reynard Porche how would it being a ps4 exclusive decress its sales in comparison to p4A i mean p5 sold a lot better then p4
Woo
Makoto best girl!
I don't want Makoto. She is so bland. Give me the Kawakami romance.
spinoffs?
HAHAHAHAHAHAH
Is someone out there actually saying this spinoff shit is canon?
I need a big ol [CITATION] for that shit, cuz all these games are the most non-canon shit i've seen in a long ass time.
Unless this word is coming down from someone super official, it's making me think that no one in the Zaibatsu knows what the term "canon" actually means.
technoskull uh, dude.
The Arena games are canon.
Dancing All Night is canon.
Persona Q is canon (even though it doesn't matter because memory wipes).
This is what Atlus does. Everything is canon.
LittleMountain90 everything is a automatic social link
If their is a Persona 5A in the future, I would like to see one of the characters from P4 having had a sex change during the time skip. I just think it'd be really interesting to see the in universe characters reactions (and the audience reactions) to an character getting a unexpected sex change.
I....refuse to buy the rhythm game of p5, don't give a shit about p3 because i never playes any persona before 5 yet
I can't stand Kawakami as a romance. Completely forgets the whole issue with Kamoshida.
Because it's consensual and non-abusive? Two things Kamoshida most definitely wasn't? I can see finding the power imbalance between the two weird (as with any of the other older girls), but it being on the same level as the Kamoshida situation is quite absurd.
The romance ignores Kawakami's characterization of not wanting to be a sex worker, and her whole "not being comfortable with romancing a kid" thing.
I still have a lot of issues with P5
