Ploy - The Space-Age 3M Bookshelf Strategy Game!

- This 3M "Bookshelf" game is one of my favorites from the series. Two players or four, there are some real challenges to look ahead a few moves and predict what might happen. It's also fun to play in a "cut throat" fashion allowing only a few seconds for each turn.
In this video I share some of the history of the game as well as an animated "how to play" segment. If you like abstract strategy and see Ploy at a thrift store or an online auction site, I recommend it!
And, as always, I appreciate your support.

I found the game a few years ago after a flea market in the wastebin. My first thought was "this looks cool" and i´m happy that i took it with me.
Your channel deserves way more viewership than it gets: I'm so happy that you're making these to share all of your excellent background knowledge of this scene with more people. Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words. I wish I knew the magic incantation to get more subscribers! I'll just keep generating content and share my board game passion!
I learned this in 1980, and met people in college a few years later who actually knew the game. We played on makeshift boards. It was fun 😊
Ah, Ploy!!! I loved that game when I was a kid. My friend had a huge number of the 3M bookshelf games
Big piece of paper, ruler, pen and some stickers on poker chips or cardboard discs is how they probably prototyped it.
Unless you can find a copy, you might have to reverse engineer it if you want to play.
thinking of Reverse Engineering it.
@@craftit9715 let me know how it goes please 😁👍
you should really show the board more in your videos as b-roll. otherwise great channel!!! been obssessed with chess' history and abstracts lately
👋😃.. I used to love playing this game back in the day how would it look as a video game huh 😃👍
looks really interesting!!
What an interesting game.
where did you did the animations, if it is available online to play then PLEASE do share link, i would really love to try this game. You are creating good content, very rare to find anything on old back in the day games.
I created these animations myself for the video using Adobe After Effects. Thanks for the kind words!
@@DavidMMcCord Hats off to you man... You did this for a video so that everyone could understand more easily.
I will probably need to make this game the DIY way....
@@craftit9715 I've seen other DIY versions, and I played around with what I called my "Armada" version with a slightly bigger board and obstacles randomly placed.
Stay ahead of the game with an exclusive interview featuring Binance’s CEO on future developments
How similar could you make a board without getting in to trouble?
WAY similar. In fact, if someone does it just for their own use, strictly as a hobby, the lawyers generally look the other way. However, if the reproduction is used for any kind of promotion or money-making endeavor... best to not go there. (Unless you KNOW it's clearly public domain.) If a game is (or parts of a game are) patented (which is not very often) and if they don't copy the copyrighted materials, a publisher can get pretty close to "imitation." That said, bigger companies have bigger lawyers ( and I am NOT a copyright lawyer, so don't believe anything I say on the subject.) "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" - but it's also setting one's self up for an I.P. infringement suit if one is not careful.
You won't get in trouble you can make this game easily.
I cannot find it, but I used to play a chess-like game that I think might have been called Citadel. Ever heard of it?🤔
1st 😁 👍
