the glove flip to his hand has to be the coolest thing about jim abbott. the fact he can pitch and then quickly flip the glove to catch the ball. PLUS, let’s be honest, being a beast pitcher AND dominating against some other greats is also a feat. another great video! 😀
Jim Abbott has been a hero of mine since his Michigan days. I missed an opportunity to watch him pitch against the White Sox during the last year of Comisky Park. I also missed an opportunity to see one of his speeches several years ago. Man, I'd love to meet him one day!
I was at this game in 93, I was 8 years old with my father. What a memory. I didn't understand baseball very well then but man that inspired me beyond belief as a young man.
In 1998 I had write a report for an exam in 5th grade. I wrote it about Jim Abbott! He was so inspiring as I was always the smallest kid on my baseball team. He’s a treasure.
Great video, I vividly remember hearing Red sox fans giving a standing ovation to the news about Abbott’s no hitter i had no problem with the bunt attempt, 4 runs or less is fine, i met Jim Abbott when he played for the Angels during batting practice we talked Detroit Sports, hes a solid dude
Love that they thought his occasional poor games were due to his arm. When there have probably been 200 two-armed pitchers with exactly the same records. Great story and thanks.
Does any other sub feel as though they won the RUclips lottery in discovering MiLB Hatbilly? I sure friggin do. This channel is amazing. Keep up the incredible work.
Comments like these keep my going on this project, and you've given me several. I'm thankful for those who've embraced my perspective on here, because I put a lot into making the content feel unique.
Jim Abbot is the perfect Hatbilly player, always rooting for the underdog. I caught the end of his career and, strangely, wasn't all that impressed with a one handed pitcher (I was a dumb kid). I respect the man so much more now. Oh, and bunting at any time is fair game as far as I'm concerned.
I don't really have any issues bunting in ANY situation of a no-hitter. Think about how silly the gripe is: "let me keep dominating you, don't adjust, that's not fair!!" ... that's what it boils down it. It weirdly places bunting as inferior or weak to do and you should instead just resign to your fate of being no-hit. It's a tough look when you really break it down.
Bunting depends on the score and the batter. If it is a 1-0 or 2-0 game and it is within reason that the batter would have bunted if the score was 4-3 or 3-1... then I dont see how anyone could have a problem with it. 4-0 is stretching it BUT that was a huge part of Loftons game and leading off the inning and needing baserunners... You play to win the game.
I sure remember Jim In the majors. Such a great talent. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for spotlighting Jim Abbott. Such as a heartwarming story.

He has a summer house in Northern Michigan! On lake Michigan...

What an awesome game to witness in person! Thanks for sharing that here.

I am reading his book....love it. Great inspiration for anyone who has a disability.
I remember reading a book about Jim as a kid, I can't remember the name, but it was as inspiring as him. Thanks pal!
I am reading a book now about him...haha

No crying on this video of Hatbilly. I am all applause for this one. Keep the baseball coming.
Abbott is an absolute treasure. Was a huge deal back in the day.
Great video. I knew about Jim Abbott but I never knew about Pete Gray so thank you for educating me about him. Keep up the good work!

Great video!
Chicken man got me
Bunting in 9th of no no is bush league
You my friend are quite the storyteller. Spin a nice yarn
most patient and understanding fanbase? you are funny!
Best all around player of all time... yet he only had one hand. Jim Abbot is a god
Well, this is something. Inspirational. Heard about Pete Gray from History Detectives. Drunk History did a segment on Abbott.

Bunting when your only purpose is to bust up the no-no is disgusting. If it's a 1-run game, no outs, runner on, bunt like cray.
You gotta hand it to him.
This was released one day after three Detroit Tigers combined for a no-hitter. Somehow, I think Abbott's will be remembered longer.

"most patient and understanding" - LOL. Man I hate the yanks!! I was fan of Abbots, great story. I just wish he had the no-no somewhere else.
God And Jesus Will Always Love You.
Bunting to disrupt a no hitter? Kenny Lofton deserves to be hit by pitch for the next several games he play.. Low dirty tactic!
I'm pretty sure he got plunked in the head within the next 2-3 games tbh
