Hi Byron! That's an interesting set-up. I was surprised at the distance between the boiler building and your house. Is there much heat loss to the ground between the two buildings? I'm assuming the line is well insulated.
Hi Sherry, That’s correct the line is very well insulated, also is burried below the frost line. Not that would matter to much. The difference between the temps of the water leaving the tank and returning is about 8c.
Thanks for sharing. I'm in BC and am looking at switching my cordwood boiler (HS Tarm) to a chip boiler as our needs grow. I am curious how many kW/BTU is your boiler?
@@northernpermaculture1069 Thanks for sharing. 120kw is huge! I am looking at the 70kw although there hardly seems to be any user video or reviews on these units. Which given their price, would be nice to see. How do you find yours handles the wood chips with their variability? Any issues with sticks or too many fines? Looking at your chips, I am guessing you're using a standard disc chipper connected to a tractor or a stand alone unit? I couldn't really tell based on the quick shot in the video. I've been looking at both PTO models (8" Woodmaxx snd Woodland Mills) and some 9" chippers used by tree services.
I have so many questions. Cost? Do you dry your wood chips before you burn? if you do dry your wood chips, how? or do you just let them sit and they dry out before they make it through to the boiler? who installs these in the US
I’m in the process of clearing my farmland. I cut the wood green. Deck it then let it dry that way. Then I chip into the bin. Also I got a lot of sawmill waste slabs and sawdust I’ll be utilizing from my sawmill. I just picked up 2 loads of slabs from a neighbor that’s been decked for a couple of years. Another company in town has chips as the do essence from the trees I got 100 ton delivered and been slowly adding the chips as the dry off the pile.
I hope you have a plate heat exchanger from that red pex. You should not using heatiing pex pipe for dhw, since it has some chemicals in the plastic that are not good for you.
Hey!. Looks like a vary cool setup, or should i say (hot), Any update on how it held up over winter, chip consumtion, etc, thanks for the video!
Congrats! What are the lose of energy on that distance? Do you measuret it?
Love your setup! Can you show us your chipping equipment?
At the moment I'm just using a old used chipper does up to about 6"
