P&M makes an awesome boiler, simple and effective. If I ever bought a new boiler, P&M would be top on my list. You just never hear bad things said about them from anyone that has one. The dry bottom with the firebrick is just awesome.

Made it through my first winter with my Portage & Main Ultimizer, absolutely loved it. The thing is built solid and is so efficient. It was an unusually warm winter but I used 50% less wood than I had been using in previous years. Just like this guy said, I initially did not like the double door or the firebox door design, BUT after using it I understand the reason it is the way it is and I love it!!

You need to add water to the boiler, your float is bottomed out. The only times I've had flames shoot out the door when I open it is when the stove has just shut off. Now my routine is to open the door to see the temperature. Mine shuts off at 180 but the water will still rise a few degrees. So if it's at 182 or 183 I know there is a chance of flames shooting out the door.
