Leave Rin Alone - How Yuru Camp Δ Celebrates Introversion

- I love Yuru Camp Δ. Not only is it utterly relaxing, it has such a charm to it that is hard to put into words. Part of this charm I feel, is how carefully it treats someone like Rin. Instead of forcing her or unnaturally having her join the (obvious) club, the show is respectful of Rin and what she wants to do-to the joy of introverts everywhere.

Oh boy, a video on one of my favorite aspects of Yuru Camp. I feel like this series does a very good job at portraying both the fun of doing something (camping) with a group of friends, but also showing that doing that by yourself is also an equally interesting experience. Not only that, but it shows a respect for both sides.
I normally travel alone (i know, not camping, but still point remains the same), and some people really seem surprised at the fact that you can have fun by yourself, and not get bored. It's an amazing experience to be alone in a new place, just you and your thoughts. You and your little adventure. The best part of travelling alone is, though, that you can choose how to spend your time, maybe sometimes you just want to talk to people and have fun with them. You can do that quite easily (and I do). Or you can choose to explore a new place completely alone (and I also do that).
I think everyone should be comfortable with either of those situations. Not necessarily liking both the same , but be comfortable and realize than there are things to gain from both. Being fine with just your own company from time to time even if you are an extrovert. Appreciating the company of others from time to time even if you are an introvert.
Or at least that's how I feel.
I completely agree with your final sentiment. If Yuru Camp is about anything in particular, it's about balance, and the value you can find in both ways of life. I'm an introvert to the extreme, but even I know I have to force myself out there sometimes.
Thanks for watching, and for the insightful comment!
I saw myself in Rins character right away as I have done fair bit of outdoor activities and some among people in my own age group. I tend to be the silent type in large groups and try to divert attention away from myself.
As an introvert who probably leans maybe too much of my loner nature, I instantly related to her and found the show so goddamn comfy.
I still need to finish it because I got started on more "exciting" stuff in the meantime, but I always know that whenever I want to feel warm and calm, I can start up this show and get under my blankets
What's fascinating is that the show includes the extrovert learning to appreciate what an introvert experiences, and how she decides to try solo-camping for herself, even as the introvert learns to appreciate the unique benefits of camping with a group of friends. I do agree with you, this show is very special in how it respectfully treats all of the different characters.
Lots of people think being an introvert is someone who is unable to socialize like normal. I think it's mostly that an introvert prioritizes being alone over going out their way to socialize. It creates this impression that they are unable to talk to people but that assumption is just not correct.
Yup. That's us introverts. We can talk to others, but unless it's important we just don't see the need to do so
As a fellow introvert I can totally agree
totally agree. Being a introvert does not always mean we are lonely, even so that makes people think we’re like that
I'm fine, people call me introverted or aloof, but I can freely talk to people including strangers
It's true that too many anime try to "fix" introverts. I didn't even notice until watching your video, that I liked the show partly because it doesn't do that.
Same.
nah mostly is an introvert that ends up meeting an extreme extrovert that doesn't notice the other is an introvert, the anime shows them together but that doesn't mean the introvert is not alone ever and has become an extrovert, it's just that the focus is the group and not the individual
In season 2 this gets even better, cause not only it didn't happened what you'd expect of Rin joining the others and stopping camping by herself, but even the opposite happens, Nadeshiko, the ultra-extroverted girl gets interested on spending time by herself and goes camping alone. I loved this decision and elevated Yuru Camp even more for me
Was just about to bring up this comparison lol
It's one of my favourite episodes from that season. Seeing Nadeshiko just instantly making new friends shows how a little bit of alone time can be just as beneficial to extroverts as it is for introverts
I'm still pleasantly surprised that Rin hasn't joined the club yet. Also, *we're reaching comfy levels that shouldn't even be possible*
André Rosin what did we expect? She’s a solo camper after all
Even after season 3, she still hasn't joined 🙂
It's not really mentioned in the video but Rin was pretty sociable even before Nadeshiko came on the scene. She took pictures of the places she was camping and she'd mess around on LINE even while she was camping by herself. She isn't socially awkward in any way - in her own way she's pretty bold - she just likes the solitude of solo camping. She has a balance in her life that she likes and works for her.
which perfectly describes the more sociable introverts. People have to aware that being introvert should not be mislabeled in negative implications.
Can I say *thank you* ?
For the longest time, I thought that being introvert was some sort of... "not good" thing. Because how people (and Internet/Social Media) give preference to loud, flashy people, with personality and stuff. Just look at how many people are enraptured by Elon Musk.
I talked about introvert thing with my mom, and she sort of opened my eyes as to introverted people have value, but the way society is, they can not fully appreciate it. It was such a relief to hear.
Then much later when I watched this anime, I thought Rin would turn into a stereotypical Kudure, but to my surprise, she felt very real and relatable (similar to Kobayashi in Dragon Maid). But what had my heart was the girls surrounding her. *They gave space to Rin without making a fuss about it* .
I usually feel that when people want constantly something out of you when you are around them, and as an introvert, it can drain you.
Your analysis reminded me a lot of what my mom said to me. I had a rush of "feels" coming to me, I wanted to THANK YOU for that.
Love,
An Introvert.
As in introvert myself, it's been a long time since I resonated so strongly with a character. I'm glad I was able to connect with you in such a way!
Remember, never watch Yuru Camp on an empty stomach!
Oof, I've made that mistake one too many times!
Yu Takeda
But. Why
You can't be comfy on an empty stomach!
well i have done that
Yu Takeda So true
Leave Rin alone!
She only for Nadeshiko.
Ayano.
i am an introvert myself and my brother (who is extrovert) always try to bring me along for some evening event. sometime i go and i enjoy it, but 8 out of 10 i would say no. so it feel nice to see an extrovert not trying to fix the intro. simply because there is nothing to fix.
I have a friend that always tries to bring me out of the house a lot and that gets tiring. He doesn't seem to understand that I need space and time to myself.
I really like how the dynamic between Nadeshiko and Rin friendship works, with mamashiko learning to reflect more about herself and thus growing up a little while shimarin tries to do new things and step outside her comfort zone little by little sometimes.
Being with another person or a group always give you something good but being solitary sometimes is important for talking with yourself, an slice of life about camping with a deep yet simple meaning is what Yurukyan is.
Yuru camp has finished its second season, and even now Rin hasn't joined the club. But she still tags along every once in a while. And i like it. Even in the second opening you can see her on her vespa following close by.
Not a Vespa, but a Yamaha Vino 50.
I like to imagine the scene where she finally joins to go like
"I'd like to join the outdoor club now"
"Well you can't...Because you were already part of it"
Your videos are great but I really should be studying....
Ah another video won’t hurt
that's totally me right now :3
I was wondering why I loved Rin's solo camping moments more than group camping moments in both seasons...Thanks to this video I knew the reason - it's because I can relate to Rin as an introvert. Being an introvert myself, I just love going to places alone and have only my thoughts do the talking randomly like a tour guide or a critic. Likewise when watching or reading stuff by myself etc. It's just the peace and quiet and/or have the ability to think without any interruptions or have people talking near you. I think this is something that hardly anyone (especially extroverts) can get. Sometimes even during lunch breaks at work, I just feel like going to a nearby café alone without any of my colleagues due to the same reasons above. Just like how Rin loves doing solo camping, I love doing things or going somewhere all by myself a lot of times. Now, this doesn't mean I don't socialise. I talk like a chatterbox when it comes to my favourite topics in a conversation, or hanging out with friends like watching a movie etc. Maybe not parties as I hate the drinking culture. But just that most of times I just enjoy to be alone, it's my mood and that's what I favour the most. Glad there is an anime out there that explores this with pride.
Rin is my favorite character of the show. She wants to be alone most of the time but she isn't shy about talking with the other characters. She has a lot of great moments when she's by herself, which is very hard for most slice of life characters and other characters in general since character interaction is one of the most important traits in slice of life shows in my opinion. Even my favorite characters probably can't pull that off.
Although it was forshadowed that Rin will camp with the others in a large group, I hope that it will be her that says that she wants to camp with the others.
Same
This is actually the anime I've been enjoying most, this season. I still have yet to watch Violet Evergarden and A Place Farther Than the Universe, though, and I feel those would be the only shows to topple Yuru Camp for me. How do you feel about the background art? Personally, I find it to be the best aspect of the show... well that and Rin is a really enjoyable character.
The background art is stupendous! I mean, it's kind of needed in a show so focused around nature, but it's got such a nice balance between being realistic yet notably drawn. I love the colors in particular, but I'm biased considering my favorite is green.
VEG started off kind of eh, but the latest episode really impressed me, and I'm hoping it continues that trend. SoraYori is really good at what it does, and it's definitely battling with Yuru Camp for my AOTS, but Δ slight edges it out right now for me. I think Sora Yori really needs to stick its ending though, and if it does then it's a tough choice.
Good to know! I mean, I kind of already heard nothing but good things in regards to all of these shows so I guess that's no surprise lol
Oh and it's the autumn color palette that's doing it for me, the browns, greens, yellows, and reds all look so good when they're washed out.
I did some sketches inspired by Yuru camp’s breath taking background art
Remember that disgust face Rin made when Nadeshko asked her to join the club in ep 2?
That was so funny... and bold!
I love this show so much. It's comforting to see something not so common in real life, people still extending a hand towards the loner time and time again to include them (should the loner wish it) instead of halting any further offers in the future. Closing that gap once people think they shouldn't invite you to things anymore is so difficult. Just seeing the dynamic in their interactions in this show is so soothing because you don't see many examples of that balance of alone, alone together or together all in one place. At least not in media in the UK in my case.
Im introverted and i think most people on youtube are
Mikaela Yuu most people on RUclips are probably more extroverted. Those who spend the most time on RUclips are probably more introverted.
Hey. An anime about me. Nice
Same😄
Soo u go on a camp by yourself?
I meant the introvert. But I think I would have a blast going by myself. It just needs to get warmer
Fork Man I think he meant that his name is also, coincidentally, Shima Rin.
/s
Evan and he also met a girl named Nadeshiko late at night
"...live happily and tell no one, people ruin beautiful things." - Gibran
The way Rin really is only close friends with Nadeshiko and not the rest of the club is so spot on too.
Well Ena is her best friend, who seems to be more of a shut-in herself as well.
Yes, sometimes people can't see the difference between introverts (real one and not those self-proclaiming introverts) and loner. And Introverts is not unsociable, they just need time to open up with other with their own pace. Sometimes people think its best if we can force them to open up, but actually thats wrong, we need to give them time and space, don't force your own idea for other people.
I’m just happy that a great analysis video of one of my favorite anime exists. Rin’s independence and dryness is balanced out well with her willingness to open up to those close to her and her sense of humor. I rarely find characters that I relate to and aspire to as much as Rin.
Rin is just too good to be true. I can relate to her in almost any part of my life. I love travelling alone and take some photos. I only have a few friends in my life and I am happy with it. I am socially awkward sometimes and rejected most of my friend's invitation to go out. But they keep asking me and that's fine because they genuinely cared about me.
I've never seen an anime that fits so perfectly right to me. Absolutely putting this in my top list.
Rin is perfect and you know it
im almost triggered because i misread the title to "Rin is a loser".
Who could be that evil! (or have that bad of taste?)
Kronn LOL 😂
That was quite the unintentional insult 😂😂
This reminds me a lot of what you said in your New Game! video. The fact that Nadeshiko and the club members balance between interacting and letting a friend do their thing, while not being cold or overly pushy is a really mature position to take, especially for a club that needs more membership. I think it has a lot to do with how they're all independently interested in camping. Rin camps by herself and enjoys it, Chiaki goes and does scouting by herself and enjoy it, and Aoi and Chiaki hold different jobs. It also makes their interactions so much more meaningful and fun when they do come together.
Also contrast this with another introvert, Koizumi-san in "Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san". We rarely get to see Koizumi-san go out and enjoy ramen as herself. It always has to be framed in terms of some interaction with another more socially active character.
I'm in love with this anime and Rin is my spirit animal lol. You put into words what I am feeling watching it :)
subbed!
Great video. I was curious if I was the only person who appreciated this aspect of Yuru Camp, and I'm pleasantly surprised to see that I am not. Even better, by the end of season two, not only did Rin not join the club yet, she inspired Nadeshiko to do some solo camping herself. It made me so happy to see introversion not treated like some sort of problem for once.
I wish friends could understand that some of us just want time alone or be alone with the right person
"Being a loner and that's okay"
Totally agree,im one of those guys BEACUSE i choose to....😊😊😊
I don't have anything deep or meaningful to say but i really love your videos.
That's meaningful enough to me! Thank you!
I relate to Rin so much in this aspect. I love your psychological analysis on shows like this. Goes to show how Slice of Life is overlooked upon as just being "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things"
We thrive being by ourselves but we do enjoy socializing from time to time. One on ones feel more comfortable than a group chat but eventually we adapt and hopefully you dont regret us opening up.
I just love this show.
It’s so pretty and just feels amazing.
And it’s very cute xD
I miss going innawoods, but i never friends to do that with til now. just to take a weekend, a couple of buddies, and just go camping. I'll have to check this anime out.
I swear if i get a shitton of poison sumac on the first day...just remember folks, wash up after going through areas with that shit mixed in.....like asap
I remember first watching the show and when Rin was asked to join the club I was expecting her to agree (or maybe agree down the line). When she flat out refuses, I had to pause the video because I was laughing too hard.
I am an introvert seeing yuru camp, (especially Rin) made this series comfy af. Although i can't go full solo camp (because where's the fun in that 😂) but the way they made Rin behaviour is very relatable. Also seeing nadeshiko ( the epitome of cinnamon roll...for now) makes this show even better. This series is awesome 👏🏻 i am speechless
It's an interesting subversion that the super shy one is the one that knows the most about the hobby from episode 1 and the loud super extroverted one is the inexperienced newbie to the hobby
Subbed to this channel recently, but I have to say I really enjoy everything I've seen so far. Your concise way of focusing on a single aspect of a series is a very refreshing change of pace and I really like the shows you've chosen to cover. I'll be rooting for your channel growth for sure.
Great video, sums up one of the best things about this show. I loved Rin shes one of my favorite characters I've seen in an anime. I love how she was never flustered or annoyed with Nadeshiko. Always sorta quietly amused with her goofiness.
Thumbnail is from that episode where she finds "beast statues" at a camp site somewhere. She isn't shouting at anything
Hey i recognize that music from Flying Witch, it's Makoto Kowata! Amazing track. The comfiest show i ever watched. Great video too. Obvious personal bias aside, I would love to see you do a video on Flying Witch.
Comfy backing track for a comfy show! I talked briefly about Flying Witch in my iyashikei video, but I might revisit it, who knows!
The grown up yuru camp tho 😢😂😂 idk I just wish they stay highschool for longer that movie starting almost made me spit out my water 😂
Flying witch Ost
Great video, Hachikuji.
The exact point I always stress when talking with the others about Yuru Camp. It's *the* show about respecting each other.
As an introvert, I identify more with Rin. I like solo camping and other such things. And yet I do participate, even host events like BBQs and such. But I need my alone time as well.
This made me want to go camping, until i remembered I don't have a tent :/
good content! glad I subbed!
I also love this anime for this, since im am introvert myself.
I am 4 years late, but finally someone who mention the rare point of this show
I'm glad i found your Channel
I'm glad that you're glad!
good analysis of rin
i loved how they ended the series too. rin has, and i think will always, feel a little distant to everyone, but when the two meet organically, it puts a smile on everyones faces, almost as rin is saying "ahh, she genuinely likes it"
I love this anime soooo much, this anime have a very special place in my heart
Sometimes I find myself funny
I’m both an Introvert AND an Extrovert
I’m introverted when I’m not with anyone I know or I’m at home
But as soon as my buddies did appear or when the situation calls for it, I actually became a little too extroverted
Now that I finished typing all the above, I felt like my Extrovert self was actually a facade after all...
I've watched a few of your videos now and I'm really impressed, the short but informed style is a breath of fresh air from other channels and u set the tone with the settling music in a lovely way, it's also nice to see someone make interesting points and observations about new seasonal shows aswell as older stuff, keep up the good work :) :)
I figured you were gonna make something like this when you were asking people about Rin reading
Pandavenger Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
My English is not very good
I believe that you will become a great commentator
please, continue with your videos, they are very good
greetings from Mexico
Rin reminds me of myself. People always describe me as quiet, shy, or chill. And Im fine with that. And I still have fun without having to shout to the world how much fun im having.
Short and concise, thanks
Been a while since I actually enjoyed an analytical anime video till now :)
Good video and I apreciate that its not 20mins or so.
Thanks for not unnesesarily wasting my time :)
Yuru Camp is criminally under rated.
5 months later,I never tired to watching this video..
I'm sold. Time to watch this show.
I don't think you'll regret it!
So being a introvert isn't bad all this time.
Yes
Ah this is something which... I dunno, annoyed me about the other girls in Yuru Camp. I feel like they are stealing from the peaceful atmosphere of the first episode. Being all loud and excitable and all that. I really loved how peaceful and chill the first episode was. I could probably watch an entire series of Rin just chilling in nature. I don't really hate the other three girls but I just feel like they ruin the atmosphere a little bit.
The anime already gives a lot of warmth but this video gave me a warmer feel especially the words "Of two people utterly and completely alone.... together"
Hey, this makes me wonder, have you seen Yama no Susume? It's another anime about the outdoors (more about hiking and mountain climbing) and contains a character who is ostensibly an introvert who never really stops being an introvert but gradually warms up to the company of others. Worth looking at if you've never seen it.
I haven't! I'm starting soon and I can't be more excited, since I love Yuru Camp and some of the people I talk to like YamaSusume even more. Also S3 hype!!
I find it baffling that people can like Fuutarou Uesugi but Nor Rin Shima. Rin certainly has a better character growth.
Great video. I never really so Yuru camp that way. Now I have new found appreciation for the anime. Subbed
I'll get back to this anime right now. For some reason this video made me feel so well about myself.
Who would downvote this video?
yuru camp is the firt show where the "introvert" drags the extrovert to their world and not the reverse
Nicely done. Good video.
What a lovely video! Yuru Camp is a current favorite of mine and I love Rin.
Amazing work as always dude!
I was legit so happy for those twelve weeks that i got to see a show like Yuru Camp. Never again will my thursdays be this comfy and the highlight of my week. I'll never forget it
Such a pleasent and nice video, thanks for making it.
Thank you for watching it!
I don't think there is another man out there that derives as much meaning from these shows as you my friend. Personally, I really really enjoy Yuru Camp myself but only because it makes me relaxed and is adorable. And I suppose there's nothing wrong in finding enjoyment in these virtues but I can't help but be a little jealous. When you describe it, it seems like there's so much merit, philosophy, and lesson in these shows its astounding! I want to be able to view shows in the same light as you one day :) nevertheless, congrats on another amazing video! Definently did not disappoint 👍
I can't wait for the next season of Yuru Camp sometime next year. Confirmed in October of 2022 that there is a third season, so I will be happy to be relaxing to this great anime^^
What's the background music on this one??
Flying Witch soundtrack!
Great show! Motocamping, good food, wholesome friendships, its got it all.
yuru camp celebrates going to fucking camping
its not that deep
nice vid btw bro
This anime has successfully given me the hardest post anime depression
Very beautiful background music. From the anime Flying Witch? Omgosh, is that Sakie Sato on the left at 1:54, from Interview with Monster Girls? Younger, & brown eyes instead of light purple but very, very close! Neat!
I would like to make a case for that Nadeshiko and Rin together it is still an introvert experience if you consider them a couple. Not in the sense that they need to be in a romantic relationship, but the way they interact reminds me of an old retiree couple that just accepts and knows each other inside out and knows what the other person needs or wants.
Considering that I would argue that those two camping together would still be introverted, even if they are not alone doing it.
Great video man
First watamote
Second toradora
And now this.
I got a lot to watch.
As an introvert, I really identified myself with Shima Rin, what made her become my favorite character along with Nadeshiko
This is a lovely video!! I was happy to see this show up while doing some research on Yuru Camp, definitely earned a sub! ^_^
I want to talk but I end up choking up
I see that Hachikuji reference there hehe 😏
Did you have to leave those cutted onions around 😢?
rin is so me i love her
Yuru camp is like my favorite anime of all time (keep in mind, I'm pretty new to anime. Just started this year so there's a big chance there will be better anime as I go further into the genre) so I'm glad you like it aswell
Don't be so sure about that! I've been watching anime for a while and Yuru Camp is still up there as one of my favorites. Glad you enjoyed it!
just curious but what is the name of the song playing in the background
The first two are from the flying witch OST, here's a link.
ruclips.net/video/l8f6M2ZHdH0/видео.html
I used the first song and I think the one at 16 min. The last song is from the 3-gatsu OST, track 1 named 通じた off of the second one.
Kamimashita oh thanks
Haha yes. Cute anime girls are good
You had me at the " i must have stuttered" :D
But that's all the way at the end!
