This is fantastically written and acted. The way his voice breaks a little when he says "May the Dread Wolf take you," and how it's been two years since they've seen each other but they still call each other "vhenan," and how when referring to the anchor he says "we are running out of time" instead of "you are" ... UGH it's just wrenching.
and he speaks in iambic meters for most of his dialogue, then doesn't when there's something he wants to stress, and the last few lines he doesn't either
I played Inquisition romancing Solas and I don't think my heart would have ever been prepared for this! My heart broken like my characters did! Dang you bioware! 😭😭😭😭
+Aeschylus Shepherd Welcome :) I also looked at other translations after I made mine and some are roughly along the lines of "Our love can endure your path." Which could be right instead or both could be right. Elven is very interpretive and I wouldn't put it past bioware to give a sentence a double meaning on purpose.

I think one of the most incredible things about this scene - if you are his ally and not romance option, he walks away regretful but not remorseful. But if you romance him and still want to be with him, when he removes the anchor and he walks to the Eluvian, he doesn't look like a man with a plan that's going his way. He walks away looking defeated with the walk of a man who had just lost everything... But because he still loves Lavellan, he looks torn to walk away from her. :(
I never noticed this before. In the other versions he walks away, hands behind his back, determined. In this version, his hands are limp by his side, remorse etched into his face. I love the details in this game.

If the Old Gods are Evanuris the question remains which one equals which in Tevinter lore. And where has the darkspawn taint come from. Is it part of Fen'Harel's vengeance for Mythal's murder? Or did it emerge naturally from their own corruption? Lore suggests that Andruil made many journeys into the lands of the Forgotten Ones to hunt, which subsequently drove her mad and some sort of plague destroyed her lands - did the darkspawn taint come from there and she unintentionally spread it until it consumed the whole Arlathan making it into the Black City, which afterwards tainted the magisters when they entered it, thus bringing the plague to Thedas? And how did the Evanuris souls escape their prison to possess dragons in the Deep Roads that the darkspawn dig for to free, or are the Deep Roads actually their prison (in which case dwarves suck at choosing their accommodation)? We know that there is 7 Old Gods (and scholars dispute that there is one other that is stricken from historical records) and 9 Evanuris, we also know that Mythal was murdered and thus was never locked away like other Evanuris excluding Fen'Harel who obviously didn't lock himself away. So Draconis, the eighth Old God, could likely depict either Mythal or Fen'Harel, which would make Tevinter and Elven numbers meet (if we exclude Mythal because of her death or Fen'Harel because of his actions). There are some discrepancies between Tevinter and Elvish lore and some of the theories to consider, though. Some scholars suggest that the "Forgotten Ones" from Elven lore equal the group of powerful demons called the "Forbidden Ones" (Gaxkang, Imshael etc.). Other scholars think Forbidden Ones taught Tevinter blood magic, which would mean that Forbidden Ones are Old Gods since Tevinter lore claims that it was the Old Gods who taught them magic. If that was the case, though, why do some of those demons manifest in their natural form and not as archdemons? Although we know that Old God souls are basically just possessing the dragons and they can easily leap into any nearby tainted vessel. If they were archdemons whose dragon forms were already slain, that would mean that Grey Wardens failed at successfully destroying them or were made into their next vessel. Furthermore why would Mythal want their souls preserved, unless it was for some sinister revenge plot against the whole world, in which case why not just let the Blight consume everything? Personally, I prefer the Evanuris theory, but we'll only know for sure when the next DA games come out. :)

There maybe multiple Evanuris but there is only 1 leader, Elgar'nan is the All Father, and they obviously weren't equal in strength, Solas Said Mythal is the most powerful of them all .. So it make sense to only have 1 throne.. 2. For all we know, solas did more than just creating the Veil, the Old evanuris might be trapped somewhere 3. The elves recorded that Humans arrived in Thedas in - 3100 Ancient (this is after the fall) , The magisters entered the Fade in - 395 ancient... Solas' rebellion is wayyyy before that... So it is safe to say that there's at least a 3000 year gap between the fall and the Magisters breaching the fade It actually made sense, the chant of light said that the blunder of man causes the Maker to turn back on mortals and left the Golden City turning it black... But Corypheus said that the place was empty all along... Than it was revealed that the fade and the living world were once the same, the evanuris weren't gods and the ancient elven society exists in what was now the Fade including Arlathan.. So Unless the ancient elves consider THE MAKER their Neighbour... Its plausible that the Golden city / Black City is Arlathan... And the Maker exists somewhere else but he was never in the Fade or the Maker is the father of Elgar'nan the Evanuris.. Since Elgar'nan is known as "He who overthrow his Father" The Chant was written by someone who didn't witness the event after all
In a party banter Cole tells him he did the right thing in regards to creating the veil (implying that the elves and maybe more would have been slaughtered or worse so the "gods" wouldn't lose all their slaves), which led to Tevinter enslaving the elves out of revenge and hopes of undoing his work to restore their power. Combine that with everything that has happened to the elves and how most of them have become spiteful fools who care more about their prejudices than truly making a new life for themselves and you can see why he feels he has to do undo his work. Because even though he saved them, he also condemned them

Nelson_ Rebel but how could you predict that? from what we know the veil is a completely new creation, something that has never been done or tried(?) before. It’s like the first use of nuclear fission by scientists, or fire by cavemen. There was no way that the scientists could have predicted the creation of the hydrogen bomb, or the cavemen of cannons.
Mr. Numbers Im not sure what you're getting at. I am in no way saying Solas was able to know all the side effects of what the veil was going to do. Just that the veil needs to go regardless of the circumstances of its creation due to what the veil is still consistently doing to the world. Consider the Fade spirits, before solas created the Veil they WERE part of the natural world and helped shaped and give life. For all we know with the veil constricting the Fade, its like tapering off a tube of water to a plant and the "plant" in this case is the actual planet of thedas slowly dying off becase its access to the fade is limited and the natural world is dying because the veil is there. hence blights, mass genocides, spirits turn to demons when they cant reunite with the natural realm as they should for millions of years and always have before Solas created the veil.

Even though I romanced Cullen during my 1st playthrough I have always felt this special connection with Solas, sometimes it even felt like I was in love with the wrong man LOL. So during my 2nd playthrough I went with Solavellan and............ OHGOD WHY. Cullen's romance was all hearts and flowers. Solas' however... it was all ninja cutting onions in the end.... but it felt more special and right for me tbh. I'm afraid that in DA4 he'll only be known to be a pure evil character, and when he said "I would not have you see what I become." got me thinking even more. I hope we don't lose the part of Solas that we all fell in love with, that friend who once stood with us to fight against evil. We will need it in order to find the strength to forgive him when the time comes.
I doubt that'll be the way of it. If you want a mature story to be considered good, you don't have characters who are black and white. Even Corypheus, if you go into his back story, is (probably) not entirely evil (I haven't studied up on him, I'm only guessing.)
The Inquisitor had to lose his/her arm so they could conclude the story. Else, they'd have to explain why he/she wasn't still fighting in DA4, which will obviously take place in Tevinter. I suspect it will be about the War of the Dread Wolf, where you're some shmuck who takes up arms and picks a side.
I also figure that since everyone of import is not in that basement room at the end those will be advisers or hidden advisers since "Solas knows everything about us" which would make the Quizzy an adviser. Makes sense since they can't be actively out and about because of Solas' spies.
to be perfectly honest, i see no reason why losing an arm should give her an excuse to stop fighting. It doesn't. Thats painting people with disabilities in a bad light....
the excuse for stopping fighting is actually them saying my adventuring days are over. They are done doing the in the field hero work. IF they come back it will be an adviser like/npc mission giver role. Also what they said was not directed at people with disabilities. it was just a matter of factly statement. In a midevil world it would be a tough adventure being armless because not every quizzy gets the super arm of doom from sera. In the modern world today sure. it would not be hard and of course they could thrive.
Perhaps that's why he acts the way he does. Think about it, he sees the thing he fears most, dying alone, and now in order to save her, he must sever ties to the Inquisitor. Even if she survives the oncoming chaos, the Anchor will kill her eventually, likely long before he dies, so when he does, it will be alone.

Probably "dying alone" is about something more than just having no woman. Google Cole's comments. My guess it is about beind sealed in a lifeless reality or something like it.
4:31 In case your wondering what the inquisitor said to Solas translates into, I'll try to figure it out ;D Var means Our Lath means Love Vir means Way Our Path and Suledin means Endure, Strength to Withstand Lost. So I think "Var Lath Vir Suledin" means "Our love is strong enough to withstand/overcome this" or "Our love can get us through this". I'm not 100% sure if this is accurate or not, I did the best I could! >.
I don't know whether to give EA credit for making a DLC with a damn good plot twist or to be mad at them for not including crucial story information in the core game
Trespasser was a boring, horrible, glitch-filled mess except for this ending scene with Solas. My game literally cannot get past that three wheel puzzle - the wheels do not turn the gate mechanism at all. Broken game. Will never buy DA4 now.

+LovelyQyla It's actually a long standing series of comic books by Adam Warren done in a quasi-manga style. The hero is an insecure girl who finds a piece of alien armor that's only as strong as she feels. So most of the time she ends up being a liability, but other times she is nigh invincible. The artwork is a tad more on the erotic side because the character originally started out as a female he'd use in his BDSM commission work. The writing gets progressively better as time goes on. The specific words above are actually from a scene where another piece of alien armor ( basically a sentient creature that was trapped inside a belt of immeasurable power that she just ends up keeping) is sitting on the edge of a bathtub while her ninja friend is getting drunk during her bath, asking the belt how she dies, as he's a pans/trans dimensional being that has existed through multiple universes and knows how. It's probably one of my favorite lines of the entire comic, and it seems like something Solas would say.
It truly fits him and moved me a lot. the only Elves I know that will not be on Solas's side when shit goes down is Zevran who will oppose him since destroying everything else means all the things he likes are destroyed as well. and Fenris who will actively oppose him since solas is doing world ending magic shit and he aint down with that.
I think that a lot of elves won't like what Solas is doing. Like all of my elven wardens. One of them romanced Morrigsn. AND the elves will get killed as well.
Alexander Casey She doesn't hate elves. She hates people assuming how she is because of her race and she strongly dislikes "elfy" elves because she sees them as people trying to force their views on how elves should be on everyone else. It's something that carries on from DA2 and DA:O - the Dalish consider themselves "true elves" and look down on the city elves, while the city elves consider the Dalish to be weird (or savages) and strongly dislike them because of their attitude. But yes, Sera would also punch Solas in the face. Everyone who is not an elf supremacist would punch Solas on the face because NOT COOL SOLAS.
Also Merrill. She messed up big time and was trying to restore a piece of elvish history, but she cares way to much about people to just stand by and let Solas do that. Kind of makes me hope she'll get a cameo in the next game, would be interesting to have a character to be there and say "I agree with you that we must restore what was lost, but not this way, this is wrong." Which she absolutely would.
Am I the only one to think there's still a chance of getting back with him? I mean... the option here is to convince him to stop... So if she succed.. maybe it can end up "happily"..

Arkham Doge I was talking about Dragon Age IV. Because I played that DLC and knows that nothing happend except meeting him there. But yeah.. the "convince him" option can lead to an happy ending. There's still hope with that option.
+Shizuka Yazawa there may be a chance in DA4 if players import data to Save Solas. I guess the consequence of choosing to Stop Solas would lead to his death. From his dialogue he shows regret for what he is about to do and hopes the Inquisitor can find another way and save him. However, for now he see no other options and everything that has happened in DA series all began with his actions those centuries ago.
Shizuka Yazawa doubt it would end since it seems DA series still have more to explore. Solas' action may started everything but some things happened that was not part of Solas' actions. Not to mention Sandal's prophecy is going full circle now and if it is right the veil will be removed no matter what happens and "everyone will be just like they were."

Anybody else think that Bioware dropped the ball in showing Solas in the trailer? They should have kept it secret. Imagine the reaction if it were the case.
Partially that, and partially the ending of the bass game, with Solas seemingly taking on Mythal's spirit from Flemeth (I think). It just seemed like such a huge part of what was soon to happen.
Solas : "there is only death on this journey" . the Werewolf curse that sustained Zathrian at DAO for ages. Ameridan spell sustained him for over 800 years if the Veil is destroyed the same fate can await Solas.
The thing is he cannot die.. This is not even his original form, Solas was approached by the Dread Wolf just like Flemeth was approached by Mythal in spirit.. I guess just like the `false gods` will be able to come back he will be able so to.. Otherwise there would be no point for him doing it... He says that elves cannot die so easily and perhaps end up roaming the fade or something.. And he did not die when placing the veil there.. So I think he has the ability to remove it again.. But that is also just speculation.

But he is similiar to them.. He was the one that banished him in the first place.. So I guess if he WOULD die.. He has the same power as Mythal to take a new form. And I belief he also said "Solas was first" Fen'harel came later in his dreams right? Also there is no purpose for him to remove the veil if it leads to his permanent death.. What would he gain from it? He also said he knew how to deal with the false gods coming back.. How could he do that if he dies removing the veil?. My only question is HOW he could remove the veil.. He was so upset that the orb was destroyed because that was the way he could remove it and it could neither be repaired or remade.. He probably needs the fade to make such a thing.. Which he cannot enter physically without both the orb AND mark. I really cannot wait for the next game.
I think noone ever saw it that way, but I love, how Solas functions as a mirror (the theme of tje dlc)for the Inquisitor. He wants to do the right thing, makes "important, hard descisions" about the question, what the greater good is worth, he willingly accepts the deaths oft many to restore what he thinks is worth it and became a legend bigger than hinself. That is literally , what you have been doing the whole game.
I mean it's sweet how much he loves her but it's clearly not enough since he's willing to sacrifice her and the rest of the world, regardless. "I will never forget you." lol Is that supposed to give her some kind of comfort in the few years before he comes back to slaughter them all? Hopefully, the world he creates is better than the present one and doesn't repeat the mistakes of the past one. And honestly, what incentive do the elves have to preserve a world that barely views them as sentient beings deserving of basic rights? I'm sure most of them think it can't get any worse than it is now.
The next game needs an import where your inquisitor can become an advisor and if they romanced him you can get an ending where you bring them together and save the world.

DA4 would have been 1000% interesting if Solas agreed to let her join, imagine the new MC facing off against the former inquisitor, after you win another dialogue option to either convince lavellan to help stopping solas(prompting more options later on), killing lavellan(that results to solas losing his reason and basically prompting a much harder boss fight)

I've cried so many tears for this romance. Games don't normally do that to me!!! When you were in the fade, there was a section that had the gravestones of your companions. On each gravestone their fears were listed. Solas was most afraid of dying alone. That hurt me, and I so wish their was a ways for me to join him. I am aware of the evil in his plans. I am perfectly willing to get behind them in order to be with him. If I can't convince him to change his mind, then I would support and rule with him. Solasmancers unite!
I hope that in Dragon Age 4 you're given the choice to join Solas in his mission. I'd also be interested in seeing how some of the other elven characters we've met over the course of the series like Zevran, Merrill, or Fenris would react to what he's trying to do.
In this dlc, have you by any chance seen a woman in rogue like armor around the winter palace and whenever I try to get near her she disappears in a puff of smoke? Because this is really annoying me and I have no idea what to do.
years later and I'm still weeping lmao. But first playthrough was this, female elf mage per usual. I love solas' mind, interest in magic and the vade. He was so interesting. He should and taught us so many things. He guided us to skyhold. I romanced him and said these same options. Ugh. It hurt, and that means they made a character so well! I started replaying again and I can never not romance solas even when Ik what he does. I just wish we had more time with him. It's so sad
Wow, this was truly foreshadowing an absolutely epic tragedy, a tale of impossible love and two powerful figures forced to oppose each other! What an incredible saga this would have been! Such a pity they just abandoned it and fucked off to do something else.
I hope Dreadwolf actually lets us side with Solas. For me, wanting to join him wasn't just because my character was romancing him, but because I am fully on board with what he wants to do. I honestly may not even play it if the whole game is just us trying to stop him because my heart just won't be in it.
I started playing the game 5 days ago, never played any dragon age game before that (I know.. I’m sorry).. but solas did something with me, I feel so sorry for him. I rlly think I can’t kill him/fight him, even if it means I can’t play the next game. I would be so pissed of if the next big thing in DA4 is just killing solas. Side with him or redemption, that’s what I can do 😂

I've made two music videos on this, and I'm still confused with aspects of this ending >:/ I don't care about my Inquisitor losing an arm, but Solas did that magical eye-thing when he kissed her! The fact that the players are given an option to join Solas as female elf makes kinda interesting. So, first thing, inquisitor is not coming back in DA4 as protag, rather than as an advisor and if you import a female elf who romanced Solas and offered to join him might work as a backstabber. So, this now kinda will make hard for new protag but will make the game interesting.
This could easily be the hardest decision Solas had to make in terms of story. :-( Also he probably knows that he wouldn't live to see the Veil destroyed.
Remember how the Warden has been missing all this time even though you contact him in the beginning of Inquisition, and Hawke "supposedly" disappears after going to Weisshaupt to talk to the Grey Wardens? This is all setting up for all these people to be in Tevinter at the same time. There's also something to consider here. Why Tevinter? My guess: Old Gods. When we saw Flemeth speaking to Kieran she "removes" something from him, he later comments that he feels lonely. Flemeth in my opinion took Urthemiel (archdaemon from DAO if you had that chosen). Solas meets Flemeth and takes both Mythal and Urthemiel from her body, ending her life. But why Urthemiel? Why an archdeamon? Because what we think are the old gods of Tevinter are actually the Evanuris. Remember that Solas banished them and created the Veil leaving them imprisoned in the Fade. What if Solas forced them into Uthenera and after a while they found a way to communicate with a particular group of powerful human mages, devised a plan to reawaken, no matter how long it took, by using the darkspawn?
That armor is fucking rad. I could not fucking BELIEVE this. The ending of Inquisition killed me inside. I was like: OKAY. OKAY. DLC. THat will make this better. It'll be better now! NOPE. DLC was like: LOL LET ME JUST TWIST THE KNIFE. OH. AND TAKIN YER ARM KTHANKS!

Gendo ruwo Yeah the Inquisitor character 'skeleton' is of one willing to assist with such world-cracking events instead of running away. One way or another we're playing a chosen one hero (not even anti-hero as Warden could be through RPing, or more humanistic hero as Hawke generally was).
Josh Richardson Herald of Andraste was just an idea that caught on (we can't even know who first regarded us as it) and was promoted by Inquisition establishment because it is close enough to Chantry doctrine/considerations of its original sentiment. You can call that a lie or not. I mean, I do. But it can also be considered a greater curiosity and interest in greater truths of the Andrastan faith (which one also has to have faith in because there is no clear truth). Everything we learn in DAI can be turned to still mean Something!Andraste helped us be the Something!Herald of her. Solas doesn't necessarily know the 'whole' truth, and we arguably prove/evidence him wrong on things several times.

Basically solas romance was not intended until bioware had more time given. They decided the romance to make solas' character more sad. I'm guessing they didn't have time to make a legit sex scene however it is implied thy have though the write has said on twitter it's up to the players choice if they did or didn't ((:
I'm doing another play through... I was going to romance iron bull but... HAHAHAHA I was reading through these comments and yours made me laugh so hard. Lol I restarted the game yesterday but then watched this and cried because I was a human... so I have to restart AGAIN and make an elf just so I can be with Solas...
The elves are spirits taken form. They Evanuris most likely created/discovered the blight and now use it as vengeance, this is why Solas dispises it so. Solas states that the blight is poisoned and unusable this may be why he is so against it becuase the evanuris planned to amp themselves with blight magic. This also may be why the others slew Mythal, she decided the taint was too dangerous and "in their lust for power they killed her." Someone made reference to Andruil hunting in the forgotten ones territory and a plague ravaged her people. Darkspawn also may very well be the spawn of the forgotten ones. And would explain the desire to infect the "old gods" which are representations of the Evanuris and also being their dragons. I still wanna know if the lizard people dalish drawings are the ancestors of the Kossith, Darkspawn, or something new entirely.
Only recently play all dragon age and had the same world state start to end and thought Id take it into Dreadwolf when that eventually releases but how romancing Solas is the one decision I may play most of Inquision though again just to have going into the next one. kinda annoying how I would've gone solas if Cassandra hadn't strung me along for so long that I had already finished most of Solas interactions

This is fantastically written and acted. The way his voice breaks a little when he says "May the Dread Wolf take you," and how it's been two years since they've seen each other but they still call each other "vhenan," and how when referring to the anchor he says "we are running out of time" instead of "you are" ... UGH it's just wrenching.

Welcome :) I also looked at other translations after I made mine and some are roughly along the lines of "Our love can endure your path." Which could be right instead or both could be right. Elven is very interpretive and I wouldn't put it past bioware to give a sentence a double meaning on purpose.

I think one of the most incredible things about this scene - if you are his ally and not romance option, he walks away regretful but not remorseful. But if you romance him and still want to be with him, when he removes the anchor and he walks to the Eluvian, he doesn't look like a man with a plan that's going his way. He walks away looking defeated with the walk of a man who had just lost everything... But because he still loves Lavellan, he looks torn to walk away from her. :(

What you're describing is the illusion of choice. You choose to romance him or not, still results in the same events.
I never noticed this before. In the other versions he walks away, hands behind his back, determined. In this version, his hands are limp by his side, remorse etched into his face. I love the details in this game.

If the Old Gods are Evanuris the question remains which one equals which in Tevinter lore. And where has the darkspawn taint come from. Is it part of Fen'Harel's vengeance for Mythal's murder? Or did it emerge naturally from their own corruption? Lore suggests that Andruil made many journeys into the lands of the Forgotten Ones to hunt, which subsequently drove her mad and some sort of plague destroyed her lands - did the darkspawn taint come from there and she unintentionally spread it until it consumed the whole Arlathan making it into the Black City, which afterwards tainted the magisters when they entered it, thus bringing the plague to Thedas? And how did the Evanuris souls escape their prison to possess dragons in the Deep Roads that the darkspawn dig for to free, or are the Deep Roads actually their prison (in which case dwarves suck at choosing their accommodation)? We know that there is 7 Old Gods (and scholars dispute that there is one other that is stricken from historical records) and 9 Evanuris, we also know that Mythal was murdered and thus was never locked away like other Evanuris excluding Fen'Harel who obviously didn't lock himself away. So Draconis, the eighth Old God, could likely depict either Mythal or Fen'Harel, which would make Tevinter and Elven numbers meet (if we exclude Mythal because of her death or Fen'Harel because of his actions).
There are some discrepancies between Tevinter and Elvish lore and some of the theories to consider, though. Some scholars suggest that the "Forgotten Ones" from Elven lore equal the group of powerful demons called the "Forbidden Ones" (Gaxkang, Imshael etc.). Other scholars think Forbidden Ones taught Tevinter blood magic, which would mean that Forbidden Ones are Old Gods since Tevinter lore claims that it was the Old Gods who taught them magic. If that was the case, though, why do some of those demons manifest in their natural form and not as archdemons? Although we know that Old God souls are basically just possessing the dragons and they can easily leap into any nearby tainted vessel. If they were archdemons whose dragon forms were already slain, that would mean that Grey Wardens failed at successfully destroying them or were made into their next vessel. Furthermore why would Mythal want their souls preserved, unless it was for some sinister revenge plot against the whole world, in which case why not just let the Blight consume everything?
Personally, I prefer the Evanuris theory, but we'll only know for sure when the next DA games come out. :)

1. There maybe multiple Evanuris but there is only 1 leader, Elgar'nan is the All Father, and they obviously weren't equal in strength, Solas Said Mythal is the most powerful of them all .. So it make sense to only have 1 throne..
2. For all we know, solas did more than just creating the Veil, the Old evanuris might be trapped somewhere
3. The elves recorded that Humans arrived in Thedas in - 3100 Ancient (this is after the fall) , The magisters entered the Fade in - 395 ancient... Solas' rebellion is wayyyy before that... So it is safe to say that there's at least a 3000 year gap between the fall and the Magisters breaching the fade
It actually made sense, the chant of light said that the blunder of man causes the Maker to turn back on mortals and left the Golden City turning it black... But Corypheus said that the place was empty all along...
Than it was revealed that the fade and the living world were once the same, the evanuris weren't gods and the ancient elven society exists in what was now the Fade including Arlathan..
So Unless the ancient elves consider THE MAKER their Neighbour... Its plausible that the Golden city / Black City is Arlathan... And the Maker exists somewhere else but he was never in the Fade or the Maker is the father of Elgar'nan the Evanuris.. Since Elgar'nan is known as "He who overthrow his Father"

In a party banter Cole tells him he did the right thing in regards to creating the veil (implying that the elves and maybe more would have been slaughtered or worse so the "gods" wouldn't lose all their slaves), which led to Tevinter enslaving the elves out of revenge and hopes of undoing his work to restore their power. Combine that with everything that has happened to the elves and how most of them have become spiteful fools who care more about their prejudices than truly making a new life for themselves and you can see why he feels he has to do undo his work. Because even though he saved them, he also condemned them

Im not sure what you're getting at.
I am in no way saying Solas was able to know all the side effects of what the veil was going to do. Just that the veil needs to go regardless of the circumstances of its creation due to what the veil is still consistently doing to the world.
Consider the Fade spirits, before solas created the Veil they WERE part of the natural world and helped shaped and give life. For all we know with the veil constricting the Fade, its like tapering off a tube of water to a plant and the "plant" in this case is the actual planet of thedas slowly dying off becase its access to the fade is limited and the natural world is dying because the veil is there.
hence blights, mass genocides, spirits turn to demons when they cant reunite with the natural realm as they should for millions of years and always have before Solas created the veil.

Even though I romanced Cullen during my 1st playthrough I have always felt this special connection with Solas, sometimes it even felt like I was in love with the wrong man LOL. So during my 2nd playthrough I went with Solavellan and............ OHGOD WHY. Cullen's romance was all hearts and flowers. Solas' however... it was all ninja cutting onions in the end.... but it felt more special and right for me tbh.
I'm afraid that in DA4 he'll only be known to be a pure evil character, and when he said "I would not have you see what I become." got me thinking even more. I hope we don't lose the part of Solas that we all fell in love with, that friend who once stood with us to fight against evil. We will need it in order to find the strength to forgive him when the time comes.

I doubt that'll be the way of it. If you want a mature story to be considered good, you don't have characters who are black and white. Even Corypheus, if you go into his back story, is (probably) not entirely evil (I haven't studied up on him, I'm only guessing.)

The Inquisitor had to lose his/her arm so they could conclude the story. Else, they'd have to explain why he/she wasn't still fighting in DA4, which will obviously take place in Tevinter. I suspect it will be about the War of the Dread Wolf, where you're some shmuck who takes up arms and picks a side.
I also figure that since everyone of import is not in that basement room at the end those will be advisers or hidden advisers since "Solas knows everything about us" which would make the Quizzy an adviser. Makes sense since they can't be actively out and about because of Solas' spies.

the excuse for stopping fighting is actually them saying my adventuring days are over. They are done doing the in the field hero work. IF they come back it will be an adviser like/npc mission giver role. Also what they said was not directed at people with disabilities. it was just a matter of factly statement. In a midevil world it would be a tough adventure being armless because not every quizzy gets the super arm of doom from sera. In the modern world today sure. it would not be hard and of course they could thrive.

Perhaps that's why he acts the way he does. Think about it, he sees the thing he fears most, dying alone, and now in order to save her, he must sever ties to the Inquisitor. Even if she survives the oncoming chaos, the Anchor will kill her eventually, likely long before he dies, so when he does, it will be alone.

His fear is dying alone as the last of the true elves. He does not consider the modern Dalish and Elves to be “his” kind.
Probably "dying alone" is about something more than just having no woman. Google Cole's comments. My guess it is about beind sealed in a lifeless reality or something like it.

+LovelyQyla It's actually a long standing series of comic books by Adam Warren done in a quasi-manga style. The hero is an insecure girl who finds a piece of alien armor that's only as strong as she feels. So most of the time she ends up being a liability, but other times she is nigh invincible. The artwork is a tad more on the erotic side because the character originally started out as a female he'd use in his BDSM commission work. The writing gets progressively better as time goes on. The specific words above are actually from a scene where another piece of alien armor ( basically a sentient creature that was trapped inside a belt of immeasurable power that she just ends up keeping) is sitting on the edge of a bathtub while her ninja friend is getting drunk during her bath, asking the belt how she dies, as he's a pans/trans dimensional being that has existed through multiple universes and knows how. It's probably one of my favorite lines of the entire comic, and it seems like something Solas would say.
It truly fits him and moved me a lot. I'll start bothering my local comics store to have a copy (being in Italy he has to be...convinced to get me my mangas/comics in original language XD)

She hates people assuming how she is because of her race and she strongly dislikes "elfy" elves because she sees them as people trying to force their views on how elves should be on everyone else. It's something that carries on from DA2 and DA:O - the Dalish consider themselves "true elves" and look down on the city elves, while the city elves consider the Dalish to be weird (or savages) and strongly dislike them because of their attitude.
But yes, Sera would also punch Solas in the face. Everyone who is not an elf supremacist would punch Solas on the face because NOT COOL SOLAS.

Also Merrill. She messed up big time and was trying to restore a piece of elvish history, but she cares way to much about people to just stand by and let Solas do that. Kind of makes me hope she'll get a cameo in the next game, would be interesting to have a character to be there and say "I agree with you that we must restore what was lost, but not this way, this is wrong." Which she absolutely would.

Arkham Doge I was talking about Dragon Age IV. Because I played that DLC and knows that nothing happend except meeting him there. But yeah.. the "convince him" option can lead to an happy ending. There's still hope with that option.
+Shizuka Yazawa there may be a chance in DA4 if players import data to Save Solas. I guess the consequence of choosing to Stop Solas would lead to his death. From his dialogue he shows regret for what he is about to do and hopes the Inquisitor can find another way and save him.
However, for now he see no other options and everything that has happened in DA series all began with his actions those centuries ago.

Not to mention Sandal's prophecy is going full circle now and if it is right the veil will be removed no matter what happens and "everyone will be just like they were."

Solas : "there is only death on this journey" . the Werewolf curse that sustained Zathrian at DAO for ages. Ameridan spell sustained him for over 800 years if the Veil is destroyed the same fate can await Solas.

The thing is he cannot die.. This is not even his original form, Solas was approached by the Dread Wolf just like Flemeth was approached by Mythal in spirit.. I guess just like the `false gods` will be able to come back he will be able so to.. Otherwise there would be no point for him doing it... He says that elves cannot die so easily and perhaps end up roaming the fade or something.. And he did not die when placing the veil there.. So I think he has the ability to remove it again..
But that is also just speculation.

But he is similiar to them.. He was the one that banished him in the first place.. So I guess if he WOULD die.. He has the same power as Mythal to take a new form. And I belief he also said "Solas was first" Fen'harel came later in his dreams right?
Also there is no purpose for him to remove the veil if it leads to his permanent death.. What would he gain from it? He also said he knew how to deal with the false gods coming back..
How could he do that if he dies removing the veil?. My only question is HOW he could remove the veil.. He was so upset that the orb was destroyed because that was the way he could remove it and it could neither be repaired or remade..
He probably needs the fade to make such a thing.. Which he cannot enter physically without both the orb AND mark.
I really cannot wait for the next game.
I think noone ever saw it that way, but I love, how Solas functions as a mirror (the theme of tje dlc)for the Inquisitor. He wants to do the right thing, makes "important, hard descisions" about the question, what the greater good is worth, he willingly accepts the deaths oft many to restore what he thinks is worth it and became a legend bigger than hinself. That is literally , what you have been doing the whole game.
I mean it's sweet how much he loves her but it's clearly not enough since he's willing to sacrifice her and the rest of the world, regardless.

Hopefully, the world he creates is better than the present one and doesn't repeat the mistakes of the past one. And honestly, what incentive do the elves have to preserve a world that barely views them as sentient beings deserving of basic rights? I'm sure most of them think it can't get any worse than it is now.
The next game needs an import where your inquisitor can become an advisor and if they romanced him you can get an ending where you bring them together and save the world.
I really feel for Solas. He's a tragic hero, and for many, he will be the villain.
my first thought of solas was "eh, that guy friend you have around that just knows everything." but after watching this i was like "OMG HE IS SO FREAKING OMG WORDS CAN NOT DESCRIBE!!!!!!!!!"
DA4 would have been 1000% interesting if Solas agreed to let her join, imagine the new MC facing off against the former inquisitor, after you win another dialogue option to either convince lavellan to help stopping solas(prompting more options later on), killing lavellan(that results to solas losing his reason and basically prompting a much harder boss fight)

The best bit about this is when he says "whats the old dalish curse, may the dreadwolf take you?" and you have the option to mention the sex lol
I've cried so many tears for this romance. Games don't normally do that to me!!! When you were in the fade, there was a section that had the gravestones of your companions. On each gravestone their fears were listed. Solas was most afraid of dying alone. That hurt me, and I so wish their was a ways for me to join him. I am aware of the evil in his plans. I am perfectly willing to get behind them in order to be with him. If I can't convince him to change his mind, then I would support and rule with him. Solasmancers unite!
I hope Bioware doesn't use the "loses and arm" excuse to explain why they're not in DA 4. Losing an arm doesn't limit you. Just ask Bethany Hamilton.

I hope that in Dragon Age 4 you're given the choice to join Solas in his mission. I'd also be interested in seeing how some of the other elven characters we've met over the course of the series like Zevran, Merrill, or Fenris would react to what he's trying to do.

years later and I'm still weeping lmao. But first playthrough was this, female elf mage per usual. I love solas' mind, interest in magic and the vade. He was so interesting. He should and taught us so many things. He guided us to skyhold. I romanced him and said these same options. Ugh. It hurt, and that means they made a character so well! I started replaying again and I can never not romance solas even when Ik what he does. I just wish we had more time with him. It's so sad
Wow, this was truly foreshadowing an absolutely epic tragedy, a tale of impossible love and two powerful figures forced to oppose each other! What an incredible saga this would have been!
Such a pity they just abandoned it and fucked off to do something else.
I hope Dreadwolf actually lets us side with Solas. For me, wanting to join him wasn't just because my character was romancing him, but because I am fully on board with what he wants to do. I honestly may not even play it if the whole game is just us trying to stop him because my heart just won't be in it.
I started playing the game 5 days ago, never played any dragon age game before that (I know.. I’m sorry).. but solas did something with me, I feel so sorry for him. I rlly think I can’t kill him/fight him, even if it means I can’t play the next game. I would be so pissed of if the next big thing in DA4 is just killing solas. Side with him or redemption, that’s what I can do 😂

Also the idea of the inquisitor being able to join Solas and becomes like an antagonist you have to stop in the next game sounds pretty cool.
Question: did Solas literally walk away from the Inquisitor when he knows she's dying? I've made two music videos on this, and I'm still confused with aspects of this ending >:/ I don't care about my Inquisitor losing an arm, but Solas did that magical eye-thing when he kissed her! What the hell did Solas do to my Inquisitor? My Lavellan is not a happy Lavellan.
+FeistyGreenSnake He took her arm while kissing her, that's why he did his "magical eye-thing" XD He's more brutal with not romanced Inquisitors, but with Lavellan, he tries to be as gentle as possible, that's why he did it when kissing her.

The fact that the players are given an option to join Solas as female elf makes kinda interesting. So, first thing, inquisitor is not coming back in DA4 as protag, rather than as an advisor and if you import a female elf who romanced Solas and offered to join him might work as a backstabber. So, this now kinda will make hard for new protag but will make the game interesting.
This could easily be the hardest decision Solas had to make in terms of story. :-(
Also he probably knows that he wouldn't live to see the Veil destroyed.
Remember how the Warden has been missing all this time even though you contact him in the beginning of Inquisition, and Hawke "supposedly" disappears after going to Weisshaupt to talk to the Grey Wardens? This is all setting up for all these people to be in Tevinter at the same time.
There's also something to consider here. Why Tevinter? My guess:
Old Gods. When we saw Flemeth speaking to Kieran she "removes" something from him, he later comments that he feels lonely. Flemeth in my opinion took Urthemiel (archdaemon from DAO if you had that chosen). Solas meets Flemeth and takes both Mythal and Urthemiel from her body, ending her life. But why Urthemiel? Why an archdeamon? Because what we think are the old gods of Tevinter are actually the Evanuris. Remember that Solas banished them and created the Veil leaving them imprisoned in the Fade. What if Solas forced them into Uthenera and after a while they found a way to communicate with a particular group of powerful human mages, devised a plan to reawaken, no matter how long it took, by using the darkspawn?
That armor is fucking rad.
I could not fucking BELIEVE this. The ending of Inquisition killed me inside. I was like: OKAY. OKAY. DLC. THat will make this better. It'll be better now!

Gendo ruwo Yeah the Inquisitor character 'skeleton' is of one willing to assist with such world-cracking events instead of running away. One way or another we're playing a chosen one hero (not even anti-hero as Warden could be through RPing, or more humanistic hero as Hawke generally was).
Josh Richardson Herald of Andraste was just an idea that caught on (we can't even know who first regarded us as it) and was promoted by Inquisition establishment because it is close enough to Chantry doctrine/considerations of its original sentiment.
You can call that a lie or not. I mean, I do. But it can also be considered a greater curiosity and interest in greater truths of the Andrastan faith (which one also has to have faith in because there is no clear truth).
Everything we learn in DAI can be turned to still mean Something!Andraste helped us be the Something!Herald of her. Solas doesn't necessarily know the 'whole' truth, and we arguably prove/evidence him wrong on things several times.
For those who are curious, "Var lath Vir suledin" means something like, " Our love will endure," or, " Our love will survive."

Basically solas romance was not intended until bioware had more time given. They decided the romance to make solas' character more sad. I'm guessing they didn't have time to make a legit sex scene however it is implied thy have though the write has said on twitter it's up to the players choice if they did or didn't ((:

The elves are spirits taken form. They Evanuris most likely created/discovered the blight and now use it as vengeance, this is why Solas dispises it so. Solas states that the blight is poisoned and unusable this may be why he is so against it becuase the evanuris planned to amp themselves with blight magic. This also may be why the others slew Mythal, she decided the taint was too dangerous and "in their lust for power they killed her."
Someone made reference to Andruil hunting in the forgotten ones territory and a plague ravaged her people. Darkspawn also may very well be the spawn of the forgotten ones. And would explain the desire to infect the "old gods" which are representations of the Evanuris and also being their dragons. I still wanna know if the lizard people dalish drawings are the ancestors of the Kossith, Darkspawn, or something new entirely.
Complex and unique villains are always the best
Only recently play all dragon age and had the same world state start to end and thought Id take it into Dreadwolf when that eventually releases but how romancing Solas is the one decision I may play most of Inquision though again just to have going into the next one. kinda annoying how I would've gone solas if Cassandra hadn't strung me along for so long that I had already finished most of Solas interactions

At least there's no "I will drown us in blood to keep you safe" when you haven't picked a single flirt option with him. That was weird first playthrough when I was with Fenris.
Before Dragon Age IQ i'd agree but now that Leliana is the Divine in my world state and wants to change the chantry id say give them another chance.
if he does then I'd make Vivienne Divine just to watch her die. It'd be a wonderful sight to behold.

If the player character isn't the Inquisitor in the next game, it'd be cool if Solas romance Inquisitors betrayed you depending on World State, kind of like The Iron Bull's storyline.

dddaaaaaamnn, If I remember they wound up postponing this game, and that let them make solas a romancable character? so worth it, and the writing is so good, for most of his dialogue, he speaks in iambic meters, only to break from it with a crucial line, and at the end
