But I tell someone the fact, the war still affect myself and my family even my children on the mental, body, etc...for the long time for the next and next generation. I was born in Europe before the end of WW2. As a child, I saw bombed out buildings reduced to rubble. I am thinking of my parents now, who lived through it and how it changed their lives. I remember rationing books-you could only buy a certain amount of dairy products, butter, etc. Yes, deep traumas come from these upheavals and last for generations. ☮️

As a Kurdish man from Iran, i was born right in the starting point of the 8 years of war between Iran and Iraq 40 yars ago. Let me clarify what the war is:
Some rich politicians who know eachother very well, sitting in their comfortable palaces, dream of their ambitions, force young soldiers who even don't know eachother to kill eachother.
And finally after a while they again shake their hands and have a nice meal together in front of cameras while parents of young soldiers still suffering from their absence.

  • @jamesricks1358

Mr. Harari is interviewed in this video. He speaks to champion democracy (Ukraine) and decry tyranny/authoritarianism (Russia). However, I have ALSO listened and watched Mr. Harari speaking to the WEF (World Economic Forum) and serving as an advisor to Klaus Schwab who is the president of WEF. When Mr. Harari is speaking in his capacity as a member of the WEF, he strongly supports tyranny/authoritarianism as personified by the WEF elites (perched at the top of humanity) rather than democratic nations (whom he must see as the serfs of the world who will own nothing and be happy). So my question to Mr. Harari is: Who is the real Yuval Noah Harari...the man speaking in this interview with TED? or the one speaking to the WEF at their annual meetings? I would like to know please.

I believe Russia got along with Ukraine just fine and it recognized it's existence for quite sometime now. However, their growing aspiration of becoming part of NATO is one of the main issue here which led Russia to get into this mess. Russia wouldn't allow Ukraine to be part of NATO just as much as the US didn't and wouldn't allow USSR/Russia to place its missiles in Cuba. Eastern Ukraine is another issue here and Ukraine will loose that part as well regardless of the outcome of this conflict. But we blame a lot of the older generations for the continued racism and xenophobia and religious extremism that exist today. I think younger generations realize we are not so different. Unfortunately Putin and his older supporters have sold out the younger generations for some fantasy of the USSR one that no younger person in Russia wants or dreams of rather they wanted to be proud of being Russian while being considered European and hold many of the same values and wanting to be able to look forward to living standards and lives parallel to their western counterparts. Yuvak Noah Harari is seeing from the European perspective, but he conveniently ignores that US-UK-NATO have conducted wars either together or separately in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, e. g., in Korea in 50s, in Vietnam in 60s, in Afghanistan, Iraq in 80s till today. The disintegration of Yugoslavia by war and genocide and Europeans may have succeeded in not having war on their soil but were a mute spectator in this human catastrophe. The issue of Palestine has not been resolved for the last 70 years and US-UK-NATO have not taken any steps to de-escalate and tame Israel and bring peace. But Europeans may live in the illusion that there is no war in Europe, but we in the third world are conscious that now we have to face all wars in our countries. For a change, there is threat to Europe.

I enjoy reading Yuval's books but I find this interview highly one-sided and opinionated.
Yes, all war hurts and its impact is felt way beyond where its happens. In an inter-connected world collateral damage takes on a whole new meaning.
Businesses and students from India are suffering on account the Russia-Ukraine conflict. I am sure similar stories can be heard from so many countries on this planet.
Yuval doesn't address Russia's concern as much as he does Ukraine's - he simplified it to being Putin's imagination.
I strongly agree that Ukraine should remain a sovereign country and it's citizens should be able to live a comfortable life.
But, the Ukrainians and the rest of us also need to know that if any move is made to make Russia feel cornered and threatened it will respond to neutralise the threat. Russia isn't Vietnam or Afghanistan or Vietnam or Syria.
What Ukraine and Russia should have done was to create a common destiny based on their shared history. Instead Ukraine wishes to bring in a powerful ally which it believes will be the deterrent against the powerful enemy across the border.
NATO and USA don't have a great track record. This alliance has caused immense pain to people of so many nations in the name of being restorers of good governance. There isn't one country on the planet which they have left after a conflict in a condition which is even close to what existed before they intervened.
NATO simply kills people, demolishes buildings, damages lives and livelihoods and puts nations 50 or 100 years back in history. They win big defence and reconstruction orders and control the defeated country's resources with long-term deals.
I think this isn't as straightforward as Yuval says in the interview. He keeps repeating that Putin is imagining things and haranguing his listeners. Maybe we need to listen to him too, not just the West.
Yuval also conveniently forgot to mention the annexation of Tibet by China and the kind of economic bullying China is doing to weak nations in Asia and Africa.
And he smoothly side-stepped the question on Israeli policies. :)
So, what we have is a pro-West diatribe given in a suave manner.
We need to stop this war but the solution has to help both sides. Humans live in Russia too and they need to feel safe too. Having NATO bombs along your border and US-led embargo on your trade isn't a great comfort.
The whole world needs to get more balanced in solving problems ... the better way to deal with problems is to prevent them from happening.

I am shocked by the fact that Yuval does not know history well, or does not know it at all.
He is a promoter of the global agenda.
Ukraine has never been in alliance with The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1569-1795). Part of it was absorbed by the Commonwealth.
Ukrainians were slaves, and therefore rebelled against their oppressors.
The uprising of Nalivaiko (1594_1596) the uprising of Bogdan Khmelnitsky (1654-1667).
The Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania collapsed as a result of wars with Russia, Prussia, Austria, and its territory was divided between these countries.
Harari wants to say that there was no Moscow yet, when Kyiv already had statehood. How superficial! And what does it mean? Once upon a time, Egypt in Africa or the Kingdom of Sumer in Mesopotamia were the most developed in the world. Does this mean that they are still setting the global agenda?
Harari thinks that he is talking to idiots who only learn about world processes from his biased books?

We all should be ashamed about never doing anything about it. I suppose the problem for this "special take on History" is very personal, biased, and subjective. This moment is transcendent because it involves Europe. Yes, it is an interconnected war. But its impact affects the West (I'm a Westerner), not all the millions (Rwanda anyone?) who suffer every day in countries that have 1% of what we have here. We have not done ANYthing to "save" or "liberate" them from us. Alongside, humankind lost most of the most important historical sites from the very cultures that gave birth to us. NOBODY talks about these things. All of them are deeply related to what we're seeing now.

Having troops of the two most imperialist empires that exist today (USA and UE, although this one is more like a teethless dog that barks and has no projection) at your border is a security concern, the US move to Ukraine only increased the perceived and real danger of having gringo troops and their missiles at 5 minutes from Moscow.
Gringos will not stop until Russia is dismembered again.
This war is going last because the gringoland and the UE wants it to continue and will do everything to prolong it and do a power grab in Moscow.

When germany stated that they will increase their military I felt a sense of increased security because I have always lived in a small sense of fear what the Russian leadership will do next(since I was a child the russian military has reminded us that they are there by flying military planes into our airspace or something similar, thus reminding our people that "fear us"). I do know that most of the russian people do not agree with their leadership atleast the ones I know but they don't seem to be able to gain any power without getting in worst cases killed. Everything my grandparents told me about Russia has proven to be true, so I have never blamed german people for what happened same as I have never blamed the russian people. Was the outcome really the best possible for the humans and did the outcome save lives, I don't know but it made "peace". I only know it saved a lot of jews and killed a lot of eastern europeans. From what I have seen from the victors of WW2 I sometimes think "Would the world have been a better place if the other side would have won". USA is bullying every country with fossile fuels(when norway found oil the first joke was "Soon USA will find weapons of mass destruction in Norway", Russia keeps "I don't know what to call it", China is what it is, UK sits like a little kid behind daddy's(USA) back and fcks everyone off. Europe excluding UK tried to better itself, Japan is more conserned about the next bright color in pokemon than wars. All the loosing parts became better while the victors only becomes worse and worse. Russia could have become a great nation, communism is one of the best government types if the ones in charge would follow the rules. USA are lost, its ruled by capitalism and everything is about money and 1 being better than the other person. USA makes life into a competition spreading their "¤%#¤" everywhere when we should try to find a way together. Europe has a chance if we just focus on following the rules we set up in EU(I know Finland follows em like word for word while some just see em as guidelines that you can follow if you want). So my point is that Germans has nothing to be ashamed of cause they have improved while the ones still running the WW2 propaganda only managed to become worse.

I'm from Ukraine. Time passed and I've done my best to realize the main cause of this war. Russian empire (third edition) requires Ukrainian people (to be honest the second edition was based on Russian (50%) and Ukrainian (18%) parts). They are so similar to Hitler with his idea of the Third Empire and negotiated with the Western world in the same way. Democratic countries failed again (similarly to the cases of Austria and Chechoslowakia in 1938) to prevent the aggression. But... Ukraine fights and we should win, otherwise this monster will find another victim (for example, Kasachstan) and kill him to get more resources.
There are a lot of winners (countries, companies, organizations, individuals), but they did nothing to start this war.
Don't worry about debts we have because of this war. Imagine someone with no enough weapons who has been threatened with guns. Would you have to send him help for free? I don't think so. We are thankful even for this help. After a while lend-lease system can make our life easier. Also, I don't know any country doubt free

Remember US strongly opposed and even was ready to go for war when Russians brought missiles at Cuba in 1960s. Instead of going along with Russians, modern misinformations and disinformations through social media giants like Facebooks, twitters, etc. caused the start uprising in countries and creating unsteadiness in Ukraine like many other nations such as Arab spring and brought in instability in many nations which were later occupied by terrorists and anarchists.

What I mean is, in this interview specifically, he's not even mentioning the fact that NATO did'nt kept it's promise of, after the end of Soviet union, not expand to the eastern european countries, over all, the former varsovian pact countries. It obviously don't justify Putin's crimes - and it's me saing that he's comiting crimes -, but it does give him pretexts in his mind to "deffend his people and his borders" against the westarn threat. He would never allow a country like Ukraine, with vast borders with Russia, to have NATO millitary bases, army and weapons...
