- This is Sao Paulo, Brazil biggest city with a population of over 12 millions people.
This trip was an experience in the downtown to see how safe if it to actually skate and travel there.
Thanks to @Tommyandersonskateboard to have show me around
We also finish the day in the most famous skate spot in Brazil : Vale Do Anhangabaú and skated with the incredible Marcelo Formiga

Formiga is a living legend in São Paulo, glad to see him skate in an international video!
Sempre quando passo na praça vejo o.cara anda d+
The guy in stripes is Formiga, big sao paulo skater, since always skating at Anhangabau and he was probably using his sneaker frowm his own collab with a BR SKT Company named Hocks
Skate culture in Brazil is huge, lots of spots in São Paulo, no one will mess with you if you skating with a group in these spots, but don’t be fooled, it’s a dangerous place and you don’t want to see it, hope you had fun.
Im 33yo and actually living in Paris, I grow up there and this video gives me lot of nostalgic memories.

Cool to see an international video about skating in São Paulo. The skating culture is rooted in the city. You really got a taste of what real street skateboarding is like in the center of São Paulo... Difficult pics, police oppression, good food, legendary skateboarders, crazy tricks, cool people. Great video bro, real street lifestyle, hope you come back to skate in more spots across the city!

Simplesmente o melhor filme já feito sobre a cultura e estilo de vida do skateboard de rua no Brasil, produzido por alguém de fora do Brasil, em um único dia de gravação; mais especificamente no centro de São Paulo, cidade que nasci e me criei.

Ohh really?
Sujo e perigoso, mas vivo e maravilhoso. É isso mesmo? Vejo contradições...
@@Theskatenomad Yes, google "vale do anhangabaú antes da reforma", was quite anti-skater due portuguese stones, but most of the city would like to have the old park back, the reform was a R$ 14 million scheme for private companies that wanted profit with shows and kiosks in the area; but there was no need for that, since there was already shows, and kioks could be instaled without much problem, the fountains you saw on the ground I've never seen then working. This part of the city is really really dangerous, for pety crimes, cellphone/bags/wallet getting stolen is more common around the world type of danger, crackhead area crime. And with 10 skateboards in hand with friends they dont mess with you, only organized crime will fuck you up but you need a lot of gear to attract them if they show up and you dont have a friend to bail you out, nothing you can do.
The way you did it with friends, is fine, you need to be alert that some foreigners dont view as safe, but most street wise people walk around everywhere alert, so ye is normal.
Thanks a lot! I agree

Long life to Formiga! local legend in Anhangabau
some people forget it’s the largest city in the americas and sometimes considered to be the fourth largest in the world. it’s massive.
I feel safe in São Paulo, just like I do in any big capital in Europe, where I also need to be careful with my cell phone and backpack. Brazilians themselves LOVE to say that it's super dangerous. It seems like victimization is part of the culture.
It depends where you go

I've been a lot at Sao Paulo myself, many times, and as a tourist, even for a native it can look really scary at the first times, but, i felt quite safe. However, of course always try to have someone else with you, and be careful, do not just go around without knowing were you are going, and be extra careful with your phone, even inside an uber, sometimes in some regions of the city, just like Paris, there's way too many pickpockets. I never heard shots or saw any guns around, in general, it's a town very different from Rio, wich in my perspective is far more violent. I love Sao Paulo, the Sundays at the Paulista's Avenue, Ibirapuera Park, Rock Gallery, many places around the Augusta's street, the many museums and some many cooll places you can go at night. I even went to the Virada Cultural Festival, The Bienal, and many other local events without a single problem, each means that, even though it can be a really hard place to live, for tourists it can be a very interesting town to know and revisit whenever you feel like coming back.
People are saying that SP isn’t the dangerous city, let me be honest.
It depends on who you are. If you’re Black, you’re screwed in São Paulo.
12:30 This is the municipal guard. This entity was originally created without firearms, only using tasers, to protect public property, like statues, parks, etc. Now we see municipal guards walking around with rifles in their hands, man. The Brazilian police are among the most lethal in the world. In São Paulo, the last time drug traffickers killed a police officer in a shootout, the police went into the favela and carried out a massacre with the endorsement of the state governor.
So he is right to use that title for the video. He’s talking about the reality of skateboarding, and skateboarding is a sport from the periferia here. He’s telling it like it is from the skater’s perspective, and he’s correct in doing so. Now, if you want to choose the perspective of Faria Lima or Pinheiros, that’s fine. For you who are disagreeing with the video title, violence will just be about phone theft, not police killings.
"Mano ta fazendo video aqui" bem BR memo. Niceee

Sao Palo have the highest skate park in the world (recognized by Guinness) I've been to it. It's so cool!🇧🇷🛹
Ohh really?!
@@Theskatenomad Yeah, you can’t miss it😆
@ In fact I was wrong… Guinnes uses sea level as a measurement, in other words, the highest skate park in the world is in La Paz - Bolivia, the skate park I was referring to is recognized by Guinnes as the tallest IN A BUILDING. The space is not very big, but the feeling of skateboarding so many meters away is sensational, in addition, the place is surrounded by windows so we can see the view of São Paulo. You can’t miss it! 😆
You were in the most dangerous part of the city, but São Paulo has several areas that are not dangerous, that are safe, with tree-lined streets, mansions, clean streets... I don't know how it works in your country, but in Brazil, in every state capital, the city center is the most dangerous part, and the rest of the city is not.
