Installing WHEEL SPACERS & WINTER PREP

  • In this video I show you how I install wheel spacers for my Jeep. I took a few extra steps to make sure the wheel well was cleaned up prior to winter. Some rust protection was applied to a few areas as preventative maintenance. Don't forget to tighten the bolts down to spec and I used lock-tite on the spacer bolts. Also, anti-seize is a good idea for the hub so it doesn't rust together over time.

    Just came across this today. Looks great! No safety glasses while using that wire brush on the drill is pretty risky to say the least!

    I've been using this jack for the past 3 years no trouble at all, it's a high lift and low profile so it will work perfect on the BMW and the Jeep. Get a 2x4 and cut it into 4" sections you can stack on the jack head if needed. Nice job.If the chorme keeps pealing or you want to protect the wheels for winter, you could plasitdip them. I know it's considered tacky, but it's good protection.

      +Rich Beach good points. I'll look into that jack and still on the fence about plasti dip. Maybe just some anthracite gray wouldn't be too bad.

    Youre supposed to put the locktite on the threaded bolt right where the nut will be torqued. The way you did it by the time you thread the bolt on there all the locktite will be left on the end of the bolt instead of where it needs to be. lol

    When you have a short jack, the easiest way jack up a taller vehicle is to use a piece of 4x4 pressure treated wood 6" to 8" tall on top of your jack plate. It's more stable than putting wood supports under your jack.

    Did a great job all around, never knew you were supposed to put antisieze on the back of the spacer like that. About the correct spacer size, you should go out as much as you go up to correct for the change in geometry. I have a 2.5" lift on my KJ, so I went out with 1.25" spacers (1.25x2=2.5).

    Brandon, just came across your videos today. I have a 2006 WK Jeep and your videos are awesome and inspiring. You have a lot of projects completed that I intend to do. Particularly I want to replace the shocks on my vehicle because every speedbump is a rollercoaster these days (154k miles). Thanks for making these videos and showing somebody who doesn't know anything about cars what these different modifications are and how realistic it is to actually do them. I noticed the topsail shirt in the vid, are you from NC? I'm in Raleigh. Also, have you had to do any repairs to your Jeep's AC? These WK Jeeps are notorious for the plastic handles breaking too. I've already replaced the 4 of my interior handles. There are smaller known issues such as the climate control illumination (around the knobs and various other symbols) having their lights go bad. Have you had similar issues?

    • @ShiftedPerspective
      @ShiftedPerspective  6 лет назад +1

      I am actually in Ohio, but vacationed in Topsail. AC has been good, I did a charge once and it has been fine since. My handles have actually been fine too. My biggest cost has been suspension work, but I also take it off road occasionally and have a lift done.

    Hey, Brandon! I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 Liter, and I am looking to get tires and rims. But, my gas mileage is horrible as it is. Did getting a lift, all-terrain tires, and spacers affect your gas mileage much?

    • @ShiftedPerspective
      @ShiftedPerspective  7 лет назад +3

      Yeah it did affect gas mileage. I would say I lost between 1-2 mpg after doing it. It's heavier and now higher off the ground. Looks sick though!

    • @alecb8509
      @alecb8509 4 года назад

      @@ShiftedPerspective But did you correct the ecu for the change in tire size? If you didn't, then the dash mpg will be off with the speedo.

    Spray some 303 or some sort of undercarriage spray in the wheel well or even diluted perl. Will make them look darker and cleaner.

    That jack is inadequate, as you acknowledge. @1.30 it must be taking about 1.5T, effectively lifting both sides but with the effort from one side. I always use two hydralic jacks to lift both sides (or front and back) evenly together as far as possible, and they are 2.5T ones with a much bigger footprint than the one you are using. I always have a wooden pad on the jack lifting head too, softwood about an inch thick ; the jack head makes indentations in it that keeps it located.

    • @ShiftedPerspective
      @ShiftedPerspective  7 лет назад +1

      They just push the wheels out further so they can make the wheels flush or push them beyond. I prefer flush on my BMW, but sticking out on my Jeep.

      Thanks buddy! I have one more question if u don't mind, I bought after market wheels which are 19in and I kept my original tires because my car came with 19in and I had the aftermarket wheels balances and rebalanced numerous times and the ride quality is still rough around a certain speed! So I put my factory msport wheels back on! Do u know why the wheels are casusing vibrations?

    Tires can be as wide as you like, but almost no state allows the tires to stick out further than the vehicle's fenders. ... This law can be fairly easily subverted in most cases by purchasing and installing aftermarket fender flares wide enough to cover the tires.
    Just say in.
