Oh NINA! I love your owl bag. It is so magical looking. The colors and texture are wonderful!!! I would have never thought to sand the leather down first. I also like painting bags. I have subscribed to your channel for more inspiration! 🦋
Oh nice the first one I click is by a Dutchy! That gives me hope that everything I need I can find in local stores. Browsing the comments I already learned that you use acrylics. But regular acrylics or acrylic leather paint? Like the one by Angelus. Also, love your street art 😍
Hi Nina bag is great but... Title is "How to paint on leather bags" so you should tell more about eg type of paint, other chemicals eg what u use to prepare surface and what type of finish coat was done to keep paint well preserved - if it was done of course ;) Because you are not talking such a important information it seems to be next clip from series "Click to buy my bags."
Hi Emi! Thank you for taking the time to write to me. To be honest, the video was never intended to be a course. It's more like an impression of how I work. Actually, what you see is what you get, I literally only use sand paper, acrylic paint in thin layers, and that's it! No finish coat :) This is not necessary if the paint is applied in thin layers. But, I get so many questions, that I hope to make a real, more in-depth explanation of how to paint leather bags, also explaining painting techniques for example. I hope this was useful to you :) Sending you happy greetings! Nina
Nina, just showing us how you transform a bag is important. You show us the basic process, which is inspiring and a gift. So what if you sell some bags as a result this video? More power to you! May you enjoy amazing success and thank you for this video. Best wishes from Paris xx
Your reply to Emi is both gracious and very generous. Thank you. Anyone who is actually capable of decently painting a bag has gotten the gist of your technique. Bravo!
@@nilasito No it won't! As long as you use several thin layers. Acrylic paint is designed to be 'flexible' and is perfect for this! Just use acrylic paint and no latex wall paint for example. That would definitely crack. Good luck!
Hey Ich love your art! I just found a bag I really want to paint myself and started researching... When I found your Video. What paint do you use for leather?
Hello Nina, I'm getting ready to paint my drum. I want to no is there a sealer like acrylic varnish you use, or is it best to not use. My drum is Native American stretched hide.
Hi there, im glad to discover your channel and find out that somebody else is doing the same job :) Do you ever use any matterial to keep the paint safe and never let te color stuck in hand or any surface that touches the bag? The only problem i had. It would be very helpfull if you answer. Thanx. Layia, Greece
You use gloves and make sure the wet paint wont touch any surface. Acrylic leather paints dry fast so it is bot like you wait for a long time. If you need to take off some stains, use the leather preparer or you can also use acetone to clean.
@@TonikoArt I meant for the daily use of the bag obviously after it has dried. Sometimes the dry color comes in contact with the skin and pieces of it come off on it. I had in mind some suggestion for varnish or something similar that would protect the painting from similar situations. Thanks
@Lagia Andr. Oh sorry I misunderstood your question. In that case, use a leather “finisher” it is just like a varnish but especially for leather paint. I have been painting bags for a while and have never experienced the same problem as you have mentioned even if i do not add finisher my paintings never come off that easily. Maybe you should try out using another paint brand too.
Yes it is best to seal your painting. You can use a leather finisher. I use angelus brand. You can also prepare the leather before painting using a leather preparer. It is also available in angelus brand. Hope this helps
Hi! This is such a pretty painting. The bag looks beautiful. ❤️ I have a question though. Is it necessary to sand the leather even if it's artificial leather? Will the paint crack if sanding is not done?
Hi! I paint on leather bags too. I never sand my bags. I use leather preparer from angelus brand, to prepare the leather surface before painting. My bags last for years without cracking and it is also water proof. I used another angelus product called leather finisher to seal it. I hope this helps. Have a good day!
@@alishkhan2154 hi! Ideally it is best to use fabric paint for fabrics of you want it to have a smoother feel after it is dried. I have tried using acrylic and it works well too. But it dries with a hard feel and it is stiff. It will last long without any seal. Just wash it by hand. Hope this helps😊
Try to find a leather paint. I used angelus brand. If you cant find it, just use a regular acrylic paint for painting. It is cheap. Try not too paint too thick layers so it will not crack
That is hard for me to know, but I would recommend to find a nice place in your hometown where they offer courses! In that way you can meet like-minded people, and get direct feedback. Plus: Just start painting yourself to get familiar with the material! Have fun

It is ok to use it if they say it can be used for leather. Leather paints are also acrylic. Just make sure you wont paint with too much layer to avoid cracking. I use leather paint called angelus. It is acrylic too but for leather. Hope this helps

Well done! This is incredible. Do you put something on to seal it?
No I don't! This is not necessary in my experience. Just make sure you apply the paint in several thin layers. :)
