They were't put together by a corporation for the "we need female VK" demand, they didn't try to be cute, no chipmunk voice, just straight heavy music by some kickass women. Thats why they were so beloved in the past.

What i like about this is the metal vocals and bg , you can be unfamiliar to japanese and still get the idea of the melancholic atmosphere in the song which is strengthened by these elements of metal . I wish more people would be more open to the idea of exploring a wide range of ideas of metal besides pure anger because at its core , heavy metal is supposed to be the most primal , raw emotions in audio - imo anyways , theres most likely loads of people who've done that and maybe i need to broaden my listening idk
not at all. dir en grey is much heavier and more progressive than exist trace. but it was nice to see a female goth band that just wasn't visual kei. shame they changed to fit the mainstream.
Not really true.... Jyou can no longer do the growling anymore as her vocal cords are fuckin shot since she esstienally was screaming from her throat and not the gut which is how you should do it thus she has killed her voice and the strain is to taxing this is why they changed it is the ONLY reason they changed.
no it's not. and it's not true. There are tons of bands that change their voice and go to singing because their voice is going horse due to screaming. Look at Kittie. Look at Mudvayne. Know the difference between those bands and this one? their music stayed in the same genre. The second Exist Trace went to a bigger label their music changed. and Miko was added in as a second vocalist despite her vocal ability being nowhere near Jyou's skill. That is all the doings of record labels. They change stuff like that all the time. now THAT info can be looked up and found out. They changed because they were forced to. Look at Naoto and the other lead guitarist. you can tell they dont' like what they are doing now. they are no where near as energetic as they used to be.
+Haku I think their older songs are more Melodic Metal or Gothic Metal. Their newer work can be considered Jazz(y) Metal or very soft Death Metal. (Though I am not an expert nor a big fan, I just copy what I read from others)
You are entering discussion material here. The discussion whether Visual Kei is a genre of music or style of appearance. I'd vote style of appearance since you can't compare the genre of Exist Trace to Phantasmagoria to Dir en Grey to VanessA
i agree that the genre can change a lot from one visual kei band to another but when i used to be really into it, it was wayyyy easier for me to find similar bands by looking for "visual kei" rather than by looking for "melodic metal" etc. etc. i just think that on a practical side and on a "community" side it's good to look for the "visual kei term". i remember that we had other terms to be more precise about the visual and music style, like oshare kei, which was supposed to be more colorful and happy, both visually and musically... i'm not following the movement anymore but apparently people are not using terms like "oshare kei" anymore ? anyways "visual kei" seems a more convenient term for me if u wanna discover more, and not be stuck on one style. i like wide and embracing terms :p
I hope you realize this was made like 15 years ago, and they were a starting band in a small label, of course the production of a music video would be low budget, not everyone has million dollars to spend when they start
harukaru I am 1000% aware of that, and I never said they needed a million dollar budget, I put up the comment because of the crazy amount of love this song gets, and I’m not saying it’s a bad song, it definitely isn’t, I’m just pointing out some of the flaws, which is something I do for all the bands I love. For example, Periphery at the moment, is my favorite band, but I feel that they stopped challenging themselves, and quite a few of their songs sound like songs from their first two albums, and Jinjer, while I love scream/singing thing, and I love the bass, but a lot of their songs sound the same. In conclusion, all bands have their strengths, and they also have their flaws, which is something I realized when I started to listen to these bands seriously, and I know they aren’t perfect, but that’s fine, because finding the flaws with these bands and how they use them has helped me appreciate their music more.
@@krisdelcid5319 I thought you meant the video. I 100% agree with your explanation. This song is great, but it's their first one, they were still young and their music had yet to evolve, is it a masterpiece? far from it, but it has the heart of a young band, and it's endearing. many people in the comments tend to praise this and hate on their newer stuff, and that's just not okay. Miko who writes all their music has been evolved tremendously all these years, her musicality is at its finest now. Do I love the growls? Sure! but Jyou heart her voice with them so it can't be helped that she doesnt scream and growl as much anymore, and ppl are being petty about it.
And because it's not brutal that means it's bad? You're just one of those metalheads. Why don't you go listen to the brutal stuff then? This is good music, you just don't know it. Brutal stuff doesn't make the music good. They're marvelous.
Well I love Dir en Grey, but judging a band because "they're not brutal enough" is super lame. Makes him look like a metalhead wannabe (That is coming from a girl that isn't even a metalhead). "True metalheads" should appreciate metal in every form :/ Oh and again, I'm not a metalhead I'm just a girl that likes some rock and metal music...

Amazing song, love the "rawr" growling she makes at 1:15 to 1:40
She is actually saying Lie >>
That's debatable IMHO but thanks for clarification anyway
