    I own this car. These guys are making this car seem lame. I love this car. 5.2 sec 0-60 and can be sub 5 sec with a few mods and a tune. High 12's in the 1/4 mile with mods & a tune. Not bad for a "Dad Car". This car is a great sleeper car. Has beaten lots of "muscle" cars at the track.

      Zapps I would, too. However, the grey seats, door inserts, and rims make this car just as bland. It’s definitely more fun to drive, but it is still incredibly boring. Why Ford didn’t make black for the interior and wheels at least an option is beyond me. Another little pet peeve of mine is that this is the only trim that comes with a black headliner. No other trims have this as an option, which, in my opinion, looks nicer than the beige headliner and would compliment a black interior much better.

    Which one would I take?
    Well, I took one. I bought a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport in March. It listed at $35,560 USD with a $7,000 rebate, and $3,000 in dealer discounts so I got it for $25,560 plus tax and tags. Mine doesnt have the cooling seats, heated steering wheel, lane assist or the same infotainment system with NAV, but it's got everything else. It's really quick for a 4 door family car, and good luck getting a Legacy for the same price.
    It might not be that much faster ( about a half second in the quarter mile) than a Honda Accord Touring, but it's so much torquier, so if it doesn't downshift, it still pulls really well and effortlessly. I think it's one of the best values out there. They're practically giving them away.

      Just bought a 17 yesterday. As a person who owned a WRX, Impreza base, new model XT Forester and currently a STI, First thing I noticed was how insanely quiet the car is with the windows up. Subaru is all about the reliability and their AWD, They've taken way too long to offer standard features in their cars. I won't even get into their 20 year unchanged turbo 2.5 motor. Ford did good with this car.

    • @gunzzz4life
      @gunzzz4life 5 лет назад

      Cobradaddy Subaru just doesn’t care about the WRX/STi anymore. Subaru is all about loving your community, being dog friendly, and being charitable. The WRX/STi doesn’t fit into that mold and we’re seeing that. The STi already got phased out of Europe and I wouldn’t be surprised if it leaves the US at some point soon. I really think Subaru would be doing the STi a favor by canning it. The wing just gets stupider and stupider every year with no meaningful changes to the car.

    • @Cobradaddy
      @Cobradaddy 5 лет назад

      @@gunzzz4life I actually think the wing looks better than any previous years. The problem is, where's the competition? Nothing's out there pushing Subaru to do anything with their sports car lineup besides the potential buyers. They are now consumed with being the best selling brand, but they are listening to their customers more now. I feel they will do something with their sport cars within a few years. They are now bringing back the turbos in their cars and suv's. Not sure why they took it out of the Forester a few years ago just to put it back in the Legacy and Outback. Only thing I can think of was to push the Ascent as their big turbo suv. Either way they are making improvements to better the brand, more refined interiors and it'll be a very solid brand. Ford dumped their cars, Evo is no longer around, everything else is priced above the WRX/STI, they are not feeling any pressure and got lazy. Time will tell.

    I’ve always been a fan of the Fusion, and with the Sport you get all the power you’ve ever desired in this car. What I just cannot understand or accept, however, are the gray seats, door inserts, and rims. Sure they’re high quality, but the color is terribly boring. Why they couldn’t have at least made black an option is beyond me.

    • @jyevans27

      Agreed. Also, there isn't a v6 option on the platinum. The madness is....odd.

    • @ryand.3858
      @ryand.3858 5 лет назад +4

      Joshua Yates-Evans Ford has a weird thing going on with the V6 lately. At one point the V6 was available in most of their vehicles, hell it was the engine they were putting in the Sport trim. Then the eco boost came along and they decided that all other NA V6’s were either irrelevant (in light of new four cylinder engines) or undesirable (mustang anybody?). Interestingly they put a 3.7L V6 in the police explorer for a time before killing that in favor of en ecoboost model as well.
      I’m pretty sure they didn’t make the V6 ecoboost an option in the fusion because it would simultaneously make the Taurus SHO kinda irrelevant and would put it into the performance sedan market price and performance-wise. A market that’s openly hostile to American cars and would likely doom it to obscurity and low sales. IMO this car still sneaks into that sport sedan segment, albeit in a stealthy sleeper kind of way. The Chevy SS had a number of PR problems thanks to a lack of interest from mothership in promoting it, but ultimately it was the price that killed it since it put it out of reach of the people that might have bought it, and into the market of those that had no interest in humoring a sleeper sedan from GM.
      IMO Ford made the right call (even if I don’t like the decision) with the engine and it trickles down to the interior and rims: putting an exclusive interior into the car would’ve raised the price on a car that’s already a hard sell. We’re lucky they even made it at all IMO with Ford management’s new hatred for the sedan and the poor ROI this thing presumably has brought in. It was probably more of a pet project that was pitched with the notion of fostering the notion of Ford as a performance brand with sporty trim levels available on all of their vehicles.
      Sadly, as always, it all comes down to money. This is why we can’t have nice things, lol.

    I'd buy this over the Legacy, the legacy is too boring for me. This isn't that exciting either, but it's better on the outside at least.
    Won't choose either over the Mazda 6 though. Just had to add that. Zoom Zoom!

    • @andrewclary872
      @andrewclary872 6 лет назад +3

      I got this over the new 6 for really just one reason: interior room. The Mazda felt cramped. I live in the south, where there is no snow, so AWD is irrelevant to me. The 6's lighter curb weight makes up the difference in acceleration. Ford's Sony vs Mazda's Bose are equal, and while Ford has AA and CarPlay, I don't use them. Ford's trunk is bigger, but negligible. They're both rated for regular unleaded, but I can tell the Fusion really wants premium for its turbos. And with the discounts you can get for the Fusions now, the price is almost identical.
      Ford's red can't hold a candle to Mazda's though. To compensate, I got a blue one.

    • @Calleditaday
      @Calleditaday 6 лет назад +1

      The 6's lighter weight does not make up for the acceleration vs the Fusion Sport. I took my Sport to ATCO dragway, and ran a 13.888 without power braking or even turning the traction control off. Just stomped on it when the light turned green. The Maxda 6 turbo can not run anything close to a 13.9.

      Floyd Dellon I’m a Ford guy and would have the Fusion for what it’s worth. HOWEVER, I have nothing but respect for the Mazda brand and I agree that they’re underrated. Cars are such a personal thing that the looking solely at the numbers doesn’t always lead to satisfaction.
      If your argument is “I just like it” then who am I to say otherwise? Not everybody is looking for everybody else’s approval and that’s a good thing in my book.

    Also, its a huge mistake by Ford to not continue this car, advance it and continue to develop it. They still sell well over 100k units a year. I believe the new CEO should put this and a couple of other cars back into availability in north America.

      There's been two rumors going around about Fusions. One is that the Fusion Sedan that was unveiled in China (Puke) will make it's way back to the NA market, and the other is that the Fusion is going to come back as a wagon to compete with the Subaru Outback. It is a shame that Ford discontinued the Fusion but I also understand that move. It wouldn't have made sense to only have one sedan since the Fusion was the only sedan Ford had that was still a sales success (I don't count the Focus a success when their trans has a 80K best buy date). The Taurus made little sense when the Fusion offered as much interior space in a more attractive package.

    Dunno about Canada, but Ford and dealerships rebated/discounted the HELL out of the 2017 Fusion Sport in the US (some as low as $27k, lower option packages). So expect to see those same sort of discounts on the 2018 soon.

    As always, great review, Straight Pipes! The Ford Fusion seems like a pretty solid entry in the Midsize sedan class. It truly is a shame that Ford is discontinuing it, though. Nevertheless, due to the Fusion soon being discontinued, you can probably get the Fusion with pretty generous rebates and incentives applied.

      I feel like I’m the only person that notices they put a colored piece of plastic in the connector and the port just so you know which way to put it in. If the colored part is on the bottom on the port just flip the cord over so that yours is on the top when you plug it in.
      However (rant incoming!), please don’t think I’m patronizing anybody by saying that as I’ve struggled with them for years and just realized at a certain point that they were going to be around for a while so I needed to figure that shit out. Im 100% on board for making everything USB-C; the lightning connector was a step in the right direction but the damn thing is fragile and tends to corrode or break (on top of being more expensive). Micro USB is the absolute worst though, even with the prongs telling you it’s oriented the right way it still fights you until it’s perfectly aligned on the same plane.
      The very best is when you’ve got that USB port in your center console; you know, the one that you can’t get a good look at from behind because the armrest/lid keeps you from getting a good look? Fuck that shit! Plugging that thing in on the first try is like trying to dock a new module on the goddamn international space station.
      IMO everything needs to be Qi or USB-C until we can come up with something new that isn’t a major pain in the ass.

    Considered this pretty seriously when I was replacing my 2013 GTI with a new car that was suitable to be shared with my soon-to-be-driving teenage daughter. I'd liked the 2.7L V6 in the Ford Edge and thought it might work well in the Fusion. However, compared to the Accord 2.0L Touring and the Mazda 6 Signature trim, it didn't make the cut. Strong points were AWD, which it obviously needed with that engine, and straight line performance. Also, considering that it will soon be discontinued I suspect it will be semi-collectible in a few years, much like the now dead Taurus SHO and the Chevy SS. And while the MSRP is over $40K (USD) I found I could get one for about $8K less than that.
    Weaknesses were MPG's (Have to feed that V6.) , interior materials, fit and finish, and handling. It's a heavy car, especially on the front end. And while it might be fine in Kansas with its long, long straight roads, I live in the Pacific NW (US version) where mountains and curves are common. The self-adjusting damping and pothole detection are trick but don't make the Fusion a sport sedan.
    Bottom line is that it might be a "Dad's car" but not this dad. The Honda Accord, Mazda 6 and even the Camry V6 XSE all outpointed the Fusion for me. A Subaru Legacy? Not even on the radar. So what did I do? I replaced the 2013 GTI with a 2018 GTI. Just couldn't face the prospect of not having one in the garage.
    P.S. Great review as usual, guys.

    You could probably get a very nice deal from Ford since they are going to stop building cars, b/c... well... that's what car companies do when you can't build cars people want (see FCA). But for better value, probably the Subie. You can sell it for more later, it probably has better safety ratings, and dogs love Subarus. Question: are you holding the camera or is it on a tripod when taking panning shots of the car? It seems the wind was shaking the camera a bit. Just curious.

      This is partially true. I bought a new 2017 Ford Fusion Sport in March of 2018. They can't give them away. My car had an MSRP of $35,560 USD, and I got it for $25,560 USD ( $7,000 rebate, and 3,000 in dealer reductions) plus tax and tags. At that price point it's a better value prop than the Subaru because you're getting so much more car for the money.
