If this helps at all: Basically this is set in great-depression-esque times. The weather is really awful, the two extremes of hot and cold. Orpheus is a singer, and is working on a song to bring the world back into tune. Hades and Persephone are also prominent characters that show up later. They are married, and Persephone spends half the year with him down in Hadestown. However, lately, he's been growing very possessive. It is VERY worth it to listen to them in order. I'm sure a playlist of all the animatics exists somewhere, and if not, I'd happily make one haha.
Hadestown changed my brain chemistry, NGL. It's my favorite musical. It's a familiar story told in a unique way, and I fucking love it. Anais Mitchell worked hard and long for this one and it sure fucking showed.
You did get them in the right order. And yes, there is a plot. Like most musicals. I highly encourage you to keep watching in order. Look up a track list to keep up. The whole show is jazzy and emotional and just fantastic 😍😍😍 there is no official video, so animations are the way to go. As for Orpheus (Or-fee-us) he’s commonly believed to be the son of one of the 9 muses. They’re minor gods covering just about every aspect of the arts. Hence why Hermes would say they’re friends of his. As they’re also immortal. Now the fates, they’re a little more complicated. In Greek mythology, they’re portrayed as 3 older women who work with thread. One who spins it, one who measures it out, and one who cuts it. Those threads being human lives. How much influence and interference the fates play varies based on the story. Here, they’re more of a constant background presence. They’re not going to interfere; they just let fate play out as it’s meant to be. And yes I know some of the songs being short and cutting off is annoying but that’s how it is. The songs are meant to flow into one another with no breaks for speaking. So some of the songs are quite short. As they just serve to bridge between bigger pieces.
Also, the fates aren't really explained more in depth here, but their names are Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, and respectively are the spinner, the allotter, and the inflexible. What this means is that "Clotho spun the 'thread' of human fate, Lachesis dispensed it, and Atropos cut the thread (thus determining the individual’s moment of death)." They represent destiny.
Omg, I’ve just discovered you reacted to the first songs of Hadestown 😭 PLEASE, continue reacting to it, it’s really one of the best musicals out there! To summarize, it’s the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus is the son of a muse and the god Apollo you talked about, he was said to have the most beautiful voice in the world. Then, Hades is the god and king of the Underworld, and Persephone is his wife, the goddess of spring and queen of the underworld. Hermes is the messenger god and the Fates are the ones that decide the fate of everyone. They decide when someone’s born and when someone dies. In the musical, since Eurydice is poor and constantly suffering alone, the Fates are behind her back, symbolizing she’s always close to death! I think those are the most important things to know about the characters. Then, the musical is based in the 1920’s New Orleans, more like the Great Depression and that’s why "Times are hard". Finally, yes, it’s a whole album, it follows a story! Not every song has animatics, but most do
This musical is a lot more metaphorical than following the actual myth, so if you get a bit lost don’t sweat it just enjoy the vibes and worry about the plot later.
A very simplified explanation: In earlier Greek mythology, the fates were one diety, with 3 distant passages of time: birth, life, and death. In later mythology, they became 3 dieties, who sometimes spoke as one; thus the reason why most of their songs are in perfect harmony.
It’s a full musical. It has a through story and a lot of the songs run into each other, which is why they feel cut short. Please check out the rest, you won’t be disappointed!
You should totally check out some songs from the Beetlejuice musical! I recommend 'Prologue: Invisible', 'Dead Mom', 'Say My Name', and either 'That Beautiful Sound' or 'Home'!
My friends were the leads for this show! Reeve Carney & Eva Noblezada also perform Cabaret shows at The Greenroom 42 (YOTEL) after HadesTown. Reeve is touring now while Eva is cast in The Great Gatsby on Broadway. 🥰🐰😊
@@theshadowfax239 First saw Reeve perform with his brother in their Band 'The Carney's back in 2005?6? My client wanted to cover a Carney song but he was picked up to play Spiderman on Broadway, before we could contact his management. I invested in the soundtrack because U2 were involved. 😆 Things got weird after he joined Penny Dreadful on Showtime. Carney Band audience 🤯 definitely changed. And he was Riff Raff for ABCs production of Rocky Horror. 😂 Was glad when he started doing HadesTown. Things "normalized" around him & he fell in love with his costar, Eva! Love watching the both of them perform Cabaret! Girlfriend can belt out a tune! 🥰🐰
Some of the songs are just really short, but if you just listen to the soundtrack all the way through they flow into each other so it's not as choppy as listening to one song at a time.
I really liked the video! I love Hadestown! I'm in hopes of seeing more of those! 9:15 oh yes! Apollo would be the choir leader of those Muses Hermes's talking about! You see, the Muses are a group of nine sisters who are the Goddesses of Creative Arts and Poetic Inspiration, with each one of those 9 sisters representing some form of art, and since Apollo is also a god that works with things related to that (such as music and poetry) made them all work together in Olympus as the divine choir. Oh! And Orpheus(the poor boy working on a song) would be a demigod, the son of Calliope, which is one of those Nine Muses, who's specific role is being the Goddess of Epic Poetry! Which is the reason why he has such an ability with melodic rhymes and stuff. Some versions of the myths may say that he is a son of Apollo WITH Calliope, which would ALSO explain why he has such a way with music, but I honestly believe more in the version saying that he is a son of Calliope with a mortal man. Since Orpheus is mentioned as a mortal demigod in the original story, it wouldn't make sense if he was the offspring of two gods, since that would make him 100% a god. The term "demigod" comes by the fact that the person in question would have one parent who is a god/goddess with the other parent NOT being a god/goddess, y'know?
Hadestown is a live musical on Broadway but there is no professional shot of it in a movie format :/ There are bootlegs online, but watching the animatics in order of the album's song would get the same effect! It's an all-sung through musical so you wouldn't miss any dialogue in between songs cause there isn't an :))) -- this is my first video of yours and i'm excited to check out your channel and hope to see you react more to Hadestown because SO LITTLE PEOPLE DO and it's my favorite musical lol
The songs all connect (because the whole musical is in songs), so that's why it feels like some of the songs were incomplete, because they immediately lead into other songs. Highly recommend listening to the whole musical in order!!!
loved the reaction! The entire musical is in song so its very worth it to listen to the musical in order, there's a plot! :P (you should listen to rent!)
The reason some of the songs are so short is because the entire musical is in songs, so there's lots of shorter transitional ones or songs that lead in to other songs-- if you listen to them in order, its like the songs don't end, they connect to each other. So come home with me, for example, immediately leads into another song. Highly recommend listening to the entire musical in order (in chunks cuz its long but even if you don't make a vid of it, its a great listen!)
im so excited for this series!! everyone's said everything already, but yeah! ur listening in the right order already- and if you decide to do more, i will be right here to watch it all the way!
you did listen to them in the right order like Hamilton there isnt any speaking just singing though out and i believe all musical have a story well all the ones i know about. This musical is a beauctiful story following two couples love story Orpheus and Euridice then hades and Persephone
Probably going the way of animatics would be best honestly. But! Hadestown is a emotional rollercoaster and if you love jazz that much I am sure you will love this very much!
The whole thing does exist, however the only recordings are technically not very legal, and not good quality, so it's best to keep with the animatics. There is not dialogue in the show outside of the songs, so you wouldn't be missing anything.
BTW I know i botched hades name lmaoooo im sorryyyy i can already smell the comments lmao, besides that i hope you guys enjoy!!!
oh yeah, my Wednesday just got amazing! 😮
How is that even possible 😭
you're not the first and won't be the last, no worries m8

I don't know why Hadestown isn't more well known-- its an AMAZING musical!!
Yesss, Hadestown is amazing! Its a sung-through musical, so you don't really need to worry about missing dialogs, as long as you have full animatics

These are the full songs they end like that because they go into the next song
Gigi did an animatic for a later song Flowers it was her first video

Highly recommend listening to the whole musical in order!!!
Just look up the album and listen in that order, and check the song length so u can match to the animatic lengths
You should definitely check out "Wait For Me (reprise)", "Chant" and "Way Down Hadestown"
Fun fact orpheus might be Apollo's son depending on what version you're reading
Orpheus is the sone of a one of the nine muses. I think Callisto but I’m not sure

i hope youll be continuing this
Moulin Rouge Broadway please it’s so good
EARLY I THINK 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Did you do it in order it's fully sung through like Epic and Hamilton
Hadestown might not get a ton of views but it's really good
