I am so pleased that you are still sharing your thoughts and ideas with us. Thank you, Mr Leon. PS I would just like to suggest that you consider putting all (ALL!) of your David Lynch related essays into a single playlist, because they are all fascinating, and it would be great to be able to share them in this manner.
This is by far one of Cage's best films and one of the most underrated movies of all time. Cage has done a lot of great work. Like Raising Arizona, leaving Las Vegas, Gone in 60 Seconds as well as Moonstruck. It would be amazing if he were to once again get back and start working on actually decent movies.
Thank you for helping me understand this movie. I tried watching this with my buddy one night and got pretty high about half way through. I had to go to bed right around the Bobby Peru groping scene because my head hurt lol
The greatest movie ever made in my opinion. I had memory’s of seeing it before as I watched it for the first time. The film is also an undeniable aphrodisiac. It fills me with such profound emotion. What a film.
This movie was so funny especially the story about her cousin Dale who loved Christmas and would scream hysterically when he was told it wasn't Christmas, I'm making my lunch! LoL! It's something how The wizard of oz came into this movie
That was an AWESOME analysis! Thanks for picking this one. Not many in depth reviews on you tube of "Wild at Heart". I enjoyed this. I wish I could afford to donate to your patreon....but, money's tight right now. What I did do is tell all my facebook friends about your channel. I hope you get some new subs. Your channel is one of the best. Thanks for everything that you do.
Yeah it's always BN my favourite film since I first watched it as a teenager I've never seen a better film yet David lynch is a master of filmmaking love all his work but this is the Everest of films in my mind ! G
Wait, Leon, did you finish Twin Peaks? I think it's interesting when Lynch made this. He shot it right after shooting the pilot for Twin Peaks, and it was released in the summer between the show's two seasons. I agree with your assessment in how Wild at Heart feels like an intersection of ideas and motifs which Lynch has on his mind when making many of his films. On a somewhat unrelated note, I'm curious if you had the chance to check out the first 2 episodes of the Twin Peaks revival?
I........frickin'............love ........this.........movie!! Saw it at the cinemas when it came out, had already seen Blue Velvet, and Twin Peaks was in it's prime (hence the crossover casting). One of the more "cohesive" stories told by Lynch, probably because it was based on an existing novel!! Love...........Love............Love.........!!! xxx
freedom is one of those words that is only meaningful when used as a relative term. some situations are "freer" than others. it's more like an adjective than a noun.
Exactly. People are never really free but they can be free from something or free to do something. When Politicians speak about Freedom they dont mention whose freedom will be narrowed as result of the bigger freedom for some.
I watched Inland Empire and then this back to back. I found myself thinking about this film a lot afterwards even though i thought inland empire was superior
Speaking of The Wizard of Oz, do you ever think you'll do a Tarkovsky movie? Because I always thought Stalker was just a really grim sci fi version of the Wizard of Oz.
4:19 References to Wizard of Oz in Mulholland Drive? Huh, that's interesting, I never actually noticed any before. I wonder what AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh "Winkie's", that's interesting. Fun fact!
This film has the feel of something that’s been made for the director, not the viewer. It tries too hard to be meaningful, resulting in a weird, dreamy trip that leaves you baffled.
Awesome video! I’d say you might not need such a thorough recap of the film as more than likely people have seen it if they are here for your interpretation. But great job!
Lynch's weakest film, with a terrible script and a uneven tone throughout. Also the only Lynch film that wasn't his original idea but was adapted from a novel by Barry Gifford..
I don't care for the ending. The plotline about the contract on Sailor's life is left mostly unresolved. Are we meant to assume that the killers will just leave him alone?
While looking through behind the scenes photos for Wild at Heart, I happened to notice a certain silver-haired crew member in the out-of-focus background, working on a prop, unmistakable even though he was blurry. It made me kind of hope Frank Silva would end up having yet another cameo in one of Lynch's projects, but unfortunately this wasn't the case.
Interesting, but I still don't get this part; Why did Mom's henchmen decide to kidnap and kill Harry Dean Stanton, and why didn't Santos go after Sailor like he said he would?
Marcellos Santos and Jonnie Farragut are old enemies and hate each other passionately. They are both aware of the others' sexual liasons with Mariella. Jonnie trying to find a solution. Marcellos' secondary aim in taking on the job is the opportunity to kill Farragut, wiping out his love rival and if he can arrange for any of his team to kill Sailor, he'll be heading home to Mariella. Marcellos btw, is the man Mariella hired to pour a can of kerosene on her innocent husband, killing him in front of a young Lula.
This is one of my least favorite Lynch flicks (Inland Empire is the worst, IMO, and just about unwatchable). I find allusions to the Wizard of Oz, in general, tired and creatively lazy, so when they're so blatantly thrown in your face, it's all the worse. The accents these two try to do in this picture is grating. But the photography is good. So is the editing and art direction. The acting is good, save for the leads.
Tony Wheeler I'm going to go the high road and assume you're not just trolling, considering this is cage's strongest role and Dern's performance is an all time great. With respect, if you didn't see the hammy acting and cheesy dialogue for what they were, then you missed the joke, and probably the point of the movie. Every line and every shot is pure parody. The lead characters are a distillation of all the saccharine American dream saps in all of old Hollywood. The blatant referencing of the wizard of Oz is tearing down the fourth wall on the fact that every road movie is a thinly veiled play on the yellow brick road. He's pulling back the curtain on the pulling back of the curtain. Watch the arrival of Betty at the airport in Mulholland Drive, with the hammy, OTT acting and blatant dubbing. This whole movie is that trope writ large. When watching Lynch never forget that his favourite movie is sunset Boulevard. Enjoy!
"Bobby dies violently" that was a bit of an understatement
"I guess I started smoking when I was about.... four."
I always felt this was sort of Lynch's "Tarantino film" - but actually predating all of Tarantino's work! Just has a similar vibes
Well maybe a bad Tarantino film yeah.
@@Arkaskas1Wild at heart > all tarantino filmography
@@Arkaskas1you must be very dumb. This is a fuckin' masterpiece
@@VidaCultural17not really but it's cool that u think that
Tarantino's movies emulate "wild at heart" on the surface, but have none of the depth.
Extremely underrated film. Good vid.
I had the pleasure of watching this movie many years ago, when i was quite young and impressionable. Boy did it leave quite the impression.
“Bobby dies violently” is an understatement lol
one of my absolute favorite movies ever
Hands down my favorite Lynch film. It takes me somewhere and keeps me there long after it's over.
"This whole world is wild at heart and weird on top!"
Lula
Cool, interesting analysis, what I like about his movies is that everything has so much layers of meaning...

Shut up.

I loved the fact you talked about all the Wizard of Oz references.
it's definitely one of lynch's best. seems like he was having. fun with this one.
Wild at heart mesmerised me for months after I had seen it in London in 1990. To this day the most compelling film I have seen, no doubt.
The greatest movie ever made in my opinion. I had memory’s of seeing it before as I watched it for the first time. The film is also an undeniable aphrodisiac. It fills me with such profound emotion. What a film.

This is an excellent analysis. Thank you, Renegade Cut.
"This is a snakeskin jacket! And for me it's a symbol of my individuality, and my belief... in personal freedom."
The pink fairy at the end, is that Laura Palmer?????
Why yes, yes it is
It may not be Lynch's best movie as you say but it's my personal favorite.
super underrated film, super underrated video

A great assessment. Just enough of a normal movie but still has the David Lynch flavor

'A weird dreamy trip that leaves you baffled' is pure Lynch and his trademark.
@@beyondvger3682 Wild At Heart is also one of the more easy to follow storylines, next to The Straight Story.

People who like this movie will love "After Hours (1985)"
After hours was good, but wild at heart is better
Could you maybe do a Renegade Cut analysis of the 2004 anime movie "Mind Game" ?

Facts
Wild at heart is very good pardoy movie
Jingle Dell!
Its a great movie, better than Dune, and Erasure Head was disappointing after the hype
Nicholas Cage at his best.
Somehow Lynch's weakest work and yet still brimming with menace, sex, beauty and mystique.
Just don't see David Lynch using the word Maturity. Oz stuff is excellent.

Shittiest film ever. David Lynch should have been banned from making movies a long time ago. Painful to watch.
