I once had a mission where a sectoid shot at one of my soldiers, missed, hit a nearby car and caused a chain reaction that blew up every car in the vicinity and killed my entire squad. Good times. I stopped using cars for cover after that
bificommander I personally thought (headcanon sort of) it was the mission after the tutorial mission where only the one person survives and you use him along with some rookies.
I mean... that's not the weird part of the game. It makes perfect logical sense that a 95% chance to hit WILL fail, repeatedly... about 5% of the time. You just don't notice it the other 95% of the time. What is weird is that their aim is so poor in the first place, and they seem to do better when insane than not... except they shoot their allies. I have a hard time believing the best soldiers on earth would panic like little children the moment any one of their allies was shot, and as a reflex they would shoot, not at the aliens, but at each-other. Or that they would be unable to aim their gun at an alien inches in front of their face.
0:18 "Commander! You may want to instruct your men to exercise restraint when using explosives... while certainly effective at killing aliens, they also destroy the artifacts we're hoping to recover from the bodies. Just something to consider."
Dallas Upchurch hey needs must when you are fighting sectopods with like 40 hit points and you just discovered lazer weapons Yea my first game was a nightmare
@Dallas Upchurch Or use a shredder rocket when fighting heavily armored enimes with high health? And rockets to be used on an enemy you have no hit chance on.
That's probably the biggest slap in the face you could give to a fallen comrade. "He was a good man, and he died a hero, savin- oh! nope, he's still with us. scratch the medal of honey guys, Jimmy is still alive". All while Jimmy is rotting away in his grave with a single tear rolling down his cheek.

Reminds me of the sniper that carried me through my first playthrough of XCOM. She was famous for A) having an abysmally low will score, and B) ALWAYS shooting something whenever she panicked. To this day, she holds the record for most aliens killed in a single turn (yes, my Long War characters have yet to break her record). She also held the record for most human kills... in Enemy Unknown.
There used to be a bug in XCOM Long War where if you had a soldier with negative willpower itd actually stack underflow into being a guaranteed psionic with guaranteed hits… and still negative willpower.
I had a similar sniper, she was famous for managing clutch shots with the attachment that gives you a 5% chance to instantly kill something, she OHKO so many sectopods that I eventually stopped bringing AT weapons
I didn't do that deliberately. It was more like: Soldier: "We're clear, hostiles down!" Me: "Let's just leave it a dozen turns just to make sure..." (80 turns later) Me: "Okay, I think it's clear, lets move up." Soldier: "Roger roger!" (walks a single tile and gets plasma overwatched by 50 aliens.) Those were gooooooooooood times
I didn't get it. Russia isn't the poorest country in the game and it has massive territory to protect so it is very likely for them to leave X-Com initiative so...what am I missing?

Meanwhile, one of snipers get hit, I get a medic to run up and heal them, a grenade gets thrown killing both of them, which then causes a third guy to run out of safe cover (he's badly injured) and then he gets shot to death, the next turn my other sniper gets shot from afar a get hit by a crit and gets critically wounded (or killed) causing me to be surrounded, with only a badly damaged assault guy and a full health heavy, I lost 4 guys in 1-2 turns
You made 3 major mistakes 1. You went into combat with someone who had a grenade in their inventory 2. You didn't immediately kill said person when you learned about the grenade 3. Failing all that you didn't space your soldiers far enough apart Russia was right to cut funding.
This is exactly what Xcom is like a bullet gets within 100 miles of a soldier so they freak out and start wildly shooting and then they do better than they would if they were calm before running into an enemy stronghold filled with melee enemies and shotgunners never to return
I get the funny side, but soldiers cannot panic in XCOM if there's just a bullet. They can only panic when a fellow soldier dies or when they are target by psionic attacks. Panicked soldiers also have only one move. They can't shoot and run, they'll either run and shoot or run and hide.
I like how the weird xcom hair colors are even being accurately represented. While four had regular colored hair, one had the out of place light pink (Purple? White?).
HellspawnStudio sometimes you don`t have a choice. during the dam mission, you need to take cover behind cars. they may explode when shot twice but in the open, your soldier will die if shot once. the rescue mission have you taking cover behind cars as well because there`s no other cover most of the time. and some terror mision 2. i could go on and on but you get teh point cars blow up when shot twice but soldeirs died when shot once.

kellen liame but, unlike the original xcom, x com 2 has a doom counter that rushes you through the game. Strategy games shouldn't be about rushing, it should be about careful planning.
Ginger in a Jacket yes, but all the best moments of xcom are when you get your group into a tough scrape because of one bad decision, and then being smart enough to work your way out. Colonel Shotgun, if you'd move your ass, you can get out of your flanked position. Colonel Shotgun are you copying? Colonel Shotgun, don't just lie still. Goddammit I hate my job.
I would be thrilled for a video in which RUclips's "Bot" turned out in the end to be Extortionist Hobo. He offered google the power of a mindless robot for a fraction of the cost.
Nice use of the day-for-night filter, I believe that's what it's called, right? I haven't ever played XCOM, but this was entertaining nonetheless. Little surprised there wasn't a point-blank-miss punchline, but then maybe that was too obvious? Credit yet again for making it something different yet still funny.
Finally! XCOM! You perfectly caught the panic mechanic. Although, truth is, they are as likely to hit friendlies as enemies. All they way to the end, that squad was lucky. Tell me, are you gonna do an XCOM2? With "The war of the chosen" expansion, fatigue is mixed into the whole panic and mind-control mechanics. I'm sure you could come up with something awesome with that in mind.
"He died during his job: dying; so that we know where the aliens are." I'm getting distinct 'UFO DEFENSE' vibes right there. Very nice video. As always, your ending punchlines are the best^^
Should have had a VIP standing next to the vet the whole time protecting him, and when he panicked he pops him, I'm sure I'm not the only one who had that happened to them in XCOM.
Every single video you guys make has so much personality and just nails the tone perfectly, every time. It sucks that you're almost being punished for your work by RUclips at the moment, but watching the channel grow from relatively small beginnings, and seeing the the constant care and attention you put into this, I can think of no other creator that deserves to really succeed in this as much as you do. I know it's blowing sunshine up your ass a little, but I just realized how much i appreciate the sketches and behinds the scenes videos you release, and i thought now was a good time to say it. Hope to see the channel continue to grow, and wish all of Door Monster the best! :P
I’m glad the demonetization thing worked out quickly, I expected jokes about the turn based aspect and the horrible hit percentages, but funny none-the-less
This was a 10/10 video. I laughed so hard and am glad that the demonitisation problem was fixed eventually. Although it pushed back the scheduled release, your consistently high quality videos have attracted what I believe to be the best community on RUclips. Being able to hang out in the Discord is super cool and I appreciate the effort you guys put in when it comes to every aspect of having a popular RUclips channel. You have a maintained a high degree of community engagement even as your community has grown tenfold and your videos are just as hilarious now as they were when I discovered this channel. That's a serious achievement! Unlike RUclips, you know that your success lies in the content you produce and the community that you support. I am thankful to have been lucky enough to share this journey with you and I know that (as proven today) regardless of how badly RUclips manages the demonitisation crisis, you'll still have a loyal community who'll continue to rally around you and support you.
Turned off adblock and clicked a banner ad for you guys. You did good work, you deserve some credit with them and this is the only thing advertisers listen to. Keep being awesome.
I actually made sure to turn off my adblocker just to watch this one. Also, the first guy's name being "Laserbait" totally went over my head the first time I watched it. Love so much about this.
My best friend and I once played a "Co-op" commander run through of this game. He would customize half our troops, I the other half, and we would both discuss what we thought the best options were with resources and troop movement. I was very frequently the "I've got your guaranteed hit right here, sir >:D" to his "We don't get anything if we blow them up!"
Thunderwave LEVEL 1st CASTING TIME 1 Action RANGE/AREA Self (15 ft ) COMPONENTS V, S DURATION Instantaneous SCHOOL Evocation ATTACK/SAVE CON Save DAMAGE/EFFECT Thunder A wave of thunderous force sweeps out from you. Each creature in a 15-foot cube originating from you must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn't pushed. In addition, unsecured objects that are completely within the area of effect are automatically pushed 10 feet away from you by the spell's effect, and the spell emits a thunderous boom audible out to 300 feet. At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 1st.
If have to say ... you guys really improved yourself over the last years. Didn't expected these Special Effect, so who made that ... thumbs up! And the humor is also not bad. ;)
Tactics of UFO defense with the "he died so we know where the aliens are" part, then we have visuals of Enemy Unknown with the sectoids and armor, and finally sounds all from XCOM 2. This is a glorious chimera of things that I love.
I remember one time when my squad was surprised by Thin Men that dropped in through the roof. My Assault died immediately, causing my sniper to panic, turn, and shoot, getting a critical hit within shotgun distance with a sniper rifle, also, coincidentally doing max damage and killing the target. Said target was the VIP that we were supposed to rescue and escort back to the Skyranger, who had managed to be missed entirely by 3 flanking shots from the Thin Man ambush.
This turned out so great! I've never played the game but the storytelling in this just fills you in and makes it relatable even without gameplay knowledge. You guys are going places. I'm excited.
You guys's are so lucky. I'm playing a steam world Dig 2 on my channel, I get demonatization because of the games sound track, and I wait a MONTH for a reply to my very kindly worded dispute, only for them to tell me that they don't care!!!!!! Anyway this was a absolutely great video and it was certainly worth the wait!
Ya that's the thing, it's happen once when I first started posting, but when I disputed it it, it went away... its this one company that's making it hard!
It's a different sort of RUclips problem. Yours is some variety of Content ID or copyright problem, and the claimant has up to a month to refute your challenge of it. This is a content violation, where the only relevant parties are the video creator and RUclips themselves, and RUclips has no incentive to delay any more than necessary to evaluate the accuracy of the AI action. Two overzealous AIs, with slightly different goals, but both have caused a lot of hassle for gamers.
It's the small channels that really get hit hard with demonetization. A bigger channel like Door Monster has a voice heard, and their issues with this sort of thing are more likely to be sorted out properly because a lot of people will know if it isn't. Smaller channels unfortunately don't have a voice.
I don't really understand youtubes AI at all. I can watch my recent videos be monetized and demonized multiple times per day, as if the AI just can't decide if its ad friendly or not. At this point I have given up on caring about it, but channels that rely on youtube of course do not have that decision. TLDR: RUclips needs to get its shit together.
This video was well worth the short wait and it is most certainly wonderful to see how much positivity exploded out of the initially negative outcome. It makes me proud to be a part of this community.
Picked up the game a week or two ago, really enjoying it. The way how panicking worked, and then stopped working reminded me heavily of the SBFP xcom episodes
Thoma Hawk I never thought I would see the day that someone would say that without an OUNCE of sarcasm... P.S. I also was glad to watch the whole ad before the video
Ahh, weaponizing panic. Every Commander's dream! Loved that bit at the beginning with the hand signals, that was hilarious! And those costumes were amazing as well.
A really well done video!! The morale of your troops resembles more of darkest dungeon's stress system which is equally frustrating. Props to the crew :D
Quast well... the tutorial kils three of the four soldiers you have on the first mission without the player being able to do anything about it. So... yeah.
Yes. Easily. Actually, if anything, the game is hardest at the beginning and gets easier in the late game. Once you have flying snipers, more rockets then you will ever need, invisibility, enough armor to tank a cyberdisc, the ability to evade overwatch, and half your characters can fire their weapons twice per turn... it's pretty hard to actually challenge you. The hardest missions late game are the terror missions... They are only hard because, in order to save as many as possible, you start out dashing your soldiers to the civilians, leaving them in poor cover, with no formation, and usually not in overwatch. You then risk losing some of your soldiers while you murder / race around the aliens trying to free the civilians.
mathig nihilcek why go for the civil save? Just kill as many aliens as you can each turn and you will only lose a few. If you kill all the aliens, all remaining survivors are saved. I get if you are trying to save one that is already directly on top of an alien as it is but dashing without a plan is reckless
Because the game is mostly blacks, greys's, beiges and really really dark grey. Unless you play modded. Also these rookies were the god-forsaken children of stormtroopers and redshirts.
I swear, there being just that one guy with the grenades, all I could think of was: "Boy, sure would be nice if we had some GRENADES, don'tchya think?" - Jayne Cobb, Serenity 2005 On a different note, glad you've managed to wrestle the evil RUclips Skynet Ad-bot to the ground (at least temporarily). Really love all the stuff you guys make. Keep it up.
Love your guys video games vids (it was the Civ ones that were shared on a forum I frequent that brought me to your channel). Also pumped for the EU4 short you mentioned earlier. Keep up the good work.
me: has solider who can pop out from an alien blind area and get a flank. *Alien shoots and hits a solider, doesn't kill* Flanking solider: AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! other solider that didn't even get hit: WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE Solider who got hit: calm
I love the way panic works in XCOM, my soldiers always do the same thing when panicked. "I'm scared of these aliens so I'm going to run right in their line of fire and shoot aimlessly at them"
"They're everywhere ! There's too many of them !
-You're holding a solution to both of those problems !"

“You’re holding the solution to both of those problems...”
“I WANNA GO HOME!”
Did Kyle do his own stunts?
They hired a specially trained stunt-Kyle. That's where most of the budget went.
EGRJ That and hiring the alien actors, their prices have gone astronomical since they unionized
^^^^^^^ ^_^
He did.
But Kyle's character is actually played by Christian Bale in this, so it's still a stunt double.
But glorious death in name of Mother Russia...oh wait wrong accent.
For anyone wondering, the link for the wiki is here:

ah thank you i was hoping to have a read of it.
I would be thrilled for a video in which RUclips's "Bot" turned out in the end to be Extortionist Hobo. He offered google the power of a mindless robot for a fraction of the cost.
I laughed so hard at this.
Not one thing inaccurate.
Good luck with the demonetization issue!
Blanjipan "not one thing inaccurate."
except the soldiers.
I think that's what his surprise at actually killing the alien right in front of him at the end refers to.
Finally!
Up.
"He died during his job: dying; so that we know where the aliens are."
I'm getting distinct 'UFO DEFENSE' vibes right there. Very nice video. As always, your ending punchlines are the best^^
Should have had a VIP standing next to the vet the whole time protecting him, and when he panicked he pops him, I'm sure I'm not the only one who had that happened to them in XCOM.
Don't fire rockets on VIP missions when the VIP is in front of the heavy... bad things... T-T
I never played XCOM and I don't even know what it's actually about, but I watched this video nevertheless because you guys rock. ♡
"What'd he say?"
"He said 'Hoo Rah! USE GRENADES!"
10/10 Would recruit.
This is the most accurate representation of XCOM rookies panicing I've ever seen
And here i am just waiting for the Collective to voice their thoughts on this.
"Wow, that worked".
Sums up XCOM in three words.
Y'know, other than THAT'S XCOM BABY
were so bad even Russia pulled it's funding... from patreon. JK love you guys
Alpha-Sigma 0/10 didn't change username to Russia for the sole purpose of enhancing this joke.
just changed to soviet union hope it is enough lol
So I’m actually a little confused, why would Russia be the last to pull funding?
no idea really
In very first X-COM Russia is only country that cannot be infiltrated by aliens and will not surrender no matter that.
"Hold your fire!"
"What'd he say?"
"He said Ooh Ra! Use Grenades!"
Turned off adblock and clicked a banner ad for you guys. You did good work, you deserve some credit with them and this is the only thing advertisers listen to. Keep being awesome.
For now on when I play xcom I'll scream "AHHHHH FOOTBALL!
I actually made sure to turn off my adblocker just to watch this one. Also, the first guy's name being "Laserbait" totally went over my head the first time I watched it. Love so much about this.
Note to self, don’t skip door monster ads
My best friend and I once played a "Co-op" commander run through of this game. He would customize half our troops, I the other half, and we would both discuss what we thought the best options were with resources and troop movement.
I was very frequently the "I've got your guaranteed hit right here, sir >:D" to his "We don't get anything if we blow them up!"
2:58 AHAHAHAHAH KYLE SCREAMS LIKE A GIRL!
Hey it worked

A wave of thunderous force sweeps out from you.
Joseph Thank you, I will.never unhear that
If have to say ... you guys really improved yourself over the last years. Didn't expected these Special Effect, so who made that ... thumbs up! And the humor is also not bad. ;)
I think a council member disapproves your actions.
Tactics of UFO defense with the "he died so we know where the aliens are" part, then we have visuals of Enemy Unknown with the sectoids and armor, and finally sounds all from XCOM 2. This is a glorious chimera of things that I love.
Gotta love giving some scrub a high ex, priming it and running him forwards until he dies.
Fastest I've ever clicked a notification in my life
glossyplane542 saaaame
I remember one time when my squad was surprised by Thin Men that dropped in through the roof. My Assault died immediately, causing my sniper to panic, turn, and shoot, getting a critical hit within shotgun distance with a sniper rifle, also, coincidentally doing max damage and killing the target.
Said target was the VIP that we were supposed to rescue and escort back to the Skyranger, who had managed to be missed entirely by 3 flanking shots from the Thin Man ambush.
Sad to see barely no top comments on kyles girl scream
I am very surprised I didn't see this channel before. And this video deserves much more views. You got a new subscriber at the very least.
Those ARE big shoulder pads, where'd you get shoulder pads that big? Is it American Football armor?
looks like it. source: Texas, where football matters more than education.
Yeah, you have to mute the soundtrack in most games
You guys have really done some amazing work here! I found your channel on a whim somehow and now my family is enjoying your awesome content!
Love xcom
King Winna
Looks like you're first, so you get a Crown: 👑
This video was well worth the short wait and it is most certainly wonderful to see how much positivity exploded out of the initially negative outcome. It makes me proud to be a part of this community.
That shit eating grin at 2:10
I like how it's so obvious that you filmed during the day and then just darkened the screen.
i'm surprised they didn't meme the hit chances enough
Picked up the game a week or two ago, really enjoying it.
The way how panicking worked, and then stopped working reminded me heavily of the SBFP xcom episodes
Turned my adbolcker off, just for you
Gulinde lol, so true
solokom it doesn't work like that, you're ripping off every McDonald poster you see and then you leave one and excpet to get a thank you
solokom it doesn't work like that, you're ripping off every McDonald poster you see and then you leave one and excpet to get a thank you
Or you could just donate one dollar to their patreon. That contributes more than a thousand viewed adds.
I totally want more of this. So awesome. Keep coming back to it again and again.
This never happens to me in XCOM mostly they the sit in a ball and cry then die because of course they do fucking Thin men acid spit.
This is so accurate my God. I love you for the amount of detail you put into these.
Hey! Collective! You still sure you want to assimilate the human race?
Glad the demonetization got worked out. You guys make some of the best short sketches on the Internet, keep it up! :D
Wooooooo it's up and I got an ad
Thoma Hawk I never thought I would see the day that someone would say that without an OUNCE of sarcasm...
P.S. I also was glad to watch the whole ad before the video
Ahh, weaponizing panic. Every Commander's dream!
Loved that bit at the beginning with the hand signals, that was hilarious! And those costumes were amazing as well.
"your so screwed even Russia pulled their funding."
lol
Perfect. As a long time player of xcom, I love this.
Flawless
A really well done video!! The morale of your troops resembles more of darkest dungeon's stress system which is equally frustrating. Props to the crew :D
Can you actually die in a mission with only the weakest aliens of them all? xD
The weakest are always the hardest.
Seriously? I can’t beat the first level of enemy unknown/within on hardest difficulty.
mathig nihilcek why go for the civil save? Just kill as many aliens as you can each turn and you will only lose a few. If you kill all the aliens, all remaining survivors are saved. I get if you are trying to save one that is already directly on top of an alien as it is but dashing without a plan is reckless
The effects in this video were fantastic! Felt just like XCOM.
For those who loved this video, head on over to Door Monster's secondary channel, Ding Dong Ditch, to see Joey's recent XCOM stream.
Ah, everyone's acting in this was so good! I love all the facial expressions. Really sells it.
Why is the video so dark.. is it the video or is my screen breaking again?
The video, but then that is the game itself for you.
Because the game is mostly blacks, greys's, beiges and really really dark grey. Unless you play modded. Also these rookies were the god-forsaken children of stormtroopers and redshirts.
so they are regular xcom rookies
They decided to try the DC Cinema filter
Jesper Flodmark They filmed at daytime but simulated night time
THIS IS WAY TOO TRUE! Also, I'm glad that ad problem is fixed!
If would just be criminal if you guys weren't compensated for all the work you guys do.
I was expocting at least once, that one of you guys stands right next to the enemy and misses. Always up for surprises, you guys.
"Laserbait is dead!"
so are my sides
I swear, there being just that one guy with the grenades, all I could think of was:
"Boy, sure would be nice if we had some GRENADES, don'tchya think?" - Jayne Cobb, Serenity 2005
On a different note, glad you've managed to wrestle the evil RUclips Skynet Ad-bot to the ground (at least temporarily).
*Alien shoots and hits a solider, doesn't kill*
Flanking solider: AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
other solider that didn't even get hit: WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE
Solider who got hit: calm
I love the way panic works in XCOM, my soldiers always do the same thing when panicked. "I'm scared of these aliens so I'm going to run right in their line of fire and shoot aimlessly at them"
