Great Gardens of Japan - Kōraku-en (後楽園 Kōrakuen)

Kōraku-en (後楽園 ) in the city of Okayama is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, along with Kenroku-en in Kanazawa and Kairaku-en in Mito. First built in 1700, Kōraku-en morphed into its current form in 1863 near the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. During the World War II, the garden suffered severe damage in aerial bombing by the Allied forces.
