Fantastic drummer. The Spinal Tap-Moment: when your Bassplayer just 42 seconds after the drumsolo started had a look at his watch. This is really funny!
@@sir60man70 I agree with your use of the term "favorite." With all the truly great drummers out there, I can't say who's Best over-all, and I have refused to even go there anymore. Heck, Ringo is still in my Top 5.
Acrylic drums, single ply clear heads tuned up and fully open (i.e. no muffling, no moongeling, no funny stuff to please the sound technician) and here comes that glorious sound Cobham had on Spectrum.
Simon always sounds like Simon, even when playing an acrylic kit, tuned typically toney, wide open as ever and… with triple-flanged hoops on toms for the first time in years (if ever at all)!
Was cool to see Simon Philips play surrounded by a plethora of drums. Don't see that too much these days. Drummers have mostly gone back. to simple trap kits. Anyway a nice ride down memory lane and the halcyon days of the original Bad Company.Another fine offering from the FB and datflys.
@@markmoriarty7388 You are corect....and their styles and skills are different as night and day. Simon Kirke more of a traditional, straight up rock drummer but great at what he does.
I think it’s cool you can see what he’s doing through the drums. When I saw him last year, you were kind of looking up and it was mostly a wall of beautiful drums around him. I prefer the sound of the wood drums though.

Drumming from hell on a kit from hell. Thansound he pulls of is just so perfect it hurts. And the dynamics is ridiculous. Reminded me of good old 70's Cobham.
he orchestrates on the fly new good stuff every time... i can feell the trance... he does what the instant moment calls for. no other to me known drummer does this.. not even close.. like that😅
Simon is that the new Tama Starclassic Mirage kit. I ask because you have more tom sizes than Tama says are available. Did Tama make those for you as a professional courtesy?
Just a disclaimer before my rant. The following comment is not a reaction to Simon, who is a really good drum. I've been playing drums on and off since the early 60s and can I just say: I'm so over drum solos!!!! They bore the hell out of me. I'm not a guitarist, sax player, pianist, violinist. I'm a drummer. We and the bass players are suppose to backup the band. We find the pocket/grove and we drive the band right to where they are suppose to be. We don't get in their way or in the way of the vocals and harmonies. We accent and highlight it all. When I'm playing a gig, most of the time I'm not looking at the audience, I'm playing to the bass player. We are suppose to support our bandmates sound the best they can. Let the guitar, sax, keyboard, hell the harmonica play the solos and all the great licks. I'm just there to help them sound great and I love that roll (pardon the pun.) Oh, if I can sing a few harmonies along the way, that's just fine with me. Anyway, that's just one drummer's opinion. What do you think.
Master of drum sound and dynamics
Simon always tunes his set perfect and has the best tuned bass drum out there.
I agree 100%
True, and he actually knows how to put together an excellent solo. One of the best in the world period.
Simon goes acrylic. Cool, Cobham- vibes!
KInd of looks like some sort of retro set, even has the really tall bass drums like old school. Always thought he's one of the best period.
@@sir60man70looks like as old Starclassic Mirage kit
So was the explosion that starts at 3:16
Where? I can't see it 🤔
Fantastic drummer. The Spinal Tap-Moment: when your Bassplayer just 42 seconds after the drumsolo started had a look at his watch. This is really funny!
Beautiful tone coming from those acrylics. Very cool.
Bass player has the best seat in the house 🎵👍🏻
Been said, but bears repeating: Superb tuning. Melodic, perfect harmonies between shells - no dissonance, no ringing over tones. Happy heads.
Always rated him as my favorite drummer.....can play about anything and has all kinds of technical skills to go along with it.

Definitely hints of Billy Cobham. Simmon is a monster.
I think that's always been the case with him, Cobham influence but took it in his own direction and developed his own style.
The usual Fantastic Simon! Nice new "old school" acrylics with his always perfect tuning!
I don’t care where Simon plays, he’s taking his entire rig 👍
Never seen him play vistalites though, but NO gong drum? Lol
A genius!!!!!!
I love watching this guy play, first heard of him when he played on a Judas Priest record many moons ago
@@stevolene That music was fairly "elementary" for his skill set. I liked a guy they had at one point named Les Binks.....very underrated.
Les Binks was a great player, that was him on the live album, Simon never toured with them
@@stevolene Yes, I remember Biinks being on that live album.
Nah. He just plays a lot.
The texture and dynamics are unreal- bravo!
Have been following for a long time now. Still amazes me
The sound !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Bello/Magnifico.😮😮😮😮😮😮👑
Great 🎉 Please more 😊

Nailed it.
Amazing!
Finesse and Dynamics and great technical ability thanks
AWESOME!
Beautiful new kit xxxx
New old kit
Acrylic = Punchy as hell
Oh my god, that kit sounds AMAZING! The toms, cymbals, kicks, EVERYTHING! And dude can PLAY!

My favorite all time master drummers Big sound
Was just thinking of simon phillips 30 seconds ago for the first time in a while. 😁
Thank you so much for sharing!
❤
Great job by the sound person too.
Agree! Love the reverb!!!
Awesome drummer!
Bravo 👍😎🥁
Damn, I missed that gig!
du grand simon phillips que du plaisir
Звук установки очень и очень роскошный я бы сказал изумительный ! И Саймону огромное Уважение !!!
You can't beat a Tama perspex kit.
Rock on Simon.
A what kit???
@@sticktrik Yeah I get it.
Wrong choice of words!

ótimo vídeo
Mr. Phillips already plays quantized and is the reason the "Humanize" function was invented.
Elaborate as to what you mean exactly.
@@sir60man70 No "please"?
Such a 'musical' approach to soloing 🤟😎

Indeed Simon Kirk is a great drummer as well!
Yes it seems I managed to get the 2 Simons mixed up. Now I'm a bit confused, Simon Kirk was the original drummer for Bad Company; or am I wrong?

I had never thought that those plastic kettles could sound...😮
So pissed I missed this
Brend new Simon's kit??
you have more footage from that show?
👏👏👏👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

Yes!! It is the 50th anniversary!!…Simon can get any size he wants!!!!
@@sticktrik Cool!!!
Tama often makes custom orders for their artists, I bought a Mirage 18" floor tom and 26" bass drum from one a few years ago
Now go listen to Russ Ballard's "Voices." If you have headphones, enjoy.
He s getting there isn't he ??.... couple more years he'll be pretty decent 😂....
Might even be able to nail some AC/DC and Beatles tunes if he works on it.
He's a maestro-one the very best-but I hope he soon swaps back to a warm wooden kit.
What snare is he using?
Acrylic never sounded so dope...
I now have nervous leg spasms from trying to make my bass pedal move that fast.i thought this double bass lol
Where's all the metalwork on the right side of his kit China etc
He started quite high tempo. I was mildly worried if he can handle solo in that tempo. 😅
OH NO! He didn't set up the right side china ! That will make the 5th lug on the second rack tom not sound right !!!!!! 😏
WTF are you talking about? Just shut up and enjoy.
Lol
Very Cobhamish? 🙂🙃🙂😛😛😛

Great hands! Mediocre plastic drum sound with this kit IMO. His wood sets are the stuff.
Did it get better towards the end, my patience ran out after the thousandth quadrupltets on double kick,
Sounds like a bad case of ADD
