Both ANA and JAL are more expensive, but compared to all US carriers, they are on a higher level. No question . So, you pay and choose what’s best for you.
But I think not so expensive, this summer I bought a flight from Florence via Frankfurt via Tokyo to Akita with ANA (premium economy) and I spent 1020€/$ and the ticket was eligible to free cancellation or change
ANA is my all time favorite airline. Amazing service! Always very friendly and professional. Plus the food is really good and they go out of their way to make economy feel like first class!
I'll be flying with ANA next month on my first trip to Japan! My 2020 trip got cancelled due to Covid, and sadly ticket prices have almost doubled since... Luckily I'm too excited to care 😅. Thank you for your review!
I tried to use ANA or JAL whenever I flight to JP. Love them both. One thing worth noting, both ANA and JAL still have good pitch for their internal economy seats (33-34 inch) when compare to US carries (30-31 inch).
Almost as if other airlines have embraced rinsing whatever we will pay for the least amount of space, whereas ANA and JAL appear to demonstrate more decency for their customers ^^
so economy legspace in ANA or japan are better than for example united?, i flew to japan on united and no complains at all, im planning to return but im thinking taking ana or japan, and the price is very similar now
That’s very true! JAL and ANA are the best airlines , ever! Great service from the smiling crews will really amaze you throughout your journey. Hands down!!!
Great video! I'm about to fly ANA from SF to Manila, layover in Tokyo. Looking forward to the experience. Prior I flew China Airlines and United to Asia but giving ANA a try. Wish me luck.
I flew european and american airlines, also middle eastern airlines. In my opinion, from service, comfort, food, and crew hospitality, no one can beat Asian Airlines, especially JAL and ANA 😊
Eva, Singapore, Sichuan airline also good. Hope China open for tourism soon. I need to try Malaysia and Philippine one day but my mental just not there yet. I also frequent Thai and Vietnam when hop around SE Asia they also fine with 6 hr flight. I also got pretty good service in SAS and TAP even tap aircrafts are kinda old. Air France and Lufthansa lower the bar a lot post covid. I also flew Etihad and Emirates last year in pe and J. Like Etihad. Will try Saudi next time!
@@kiraasuka9943 Spot on but avoid Philippine Airlines since their nickname Plane Always Late still applies to them. Start in NRT/HND to MNL pick JL77/78/745/746 NRT/HND-MNL or NH819/869 over PR422/424 and PR427/431. Since you mentioned Eva Air and Singapore airlines their routes to MNL beat Philippine Airlines. For my father he did TPE-MNL on PR and BR he had a bad time on PR therefore he went BR272/278/262 > PR896/897
We travel to Japan and SE Asia a lot. JAL and ANA are our airlines of choice, even into SE Asia. Singapore Airlines is fantastic, don’t get me wrong. But from our home in San Francisco to Sing is a 17+ hour flight and at our age (60’s), the bones and muscles can’t take 17+ hours in a plane. We flew on Cathay through Hong Kong (and weren’t impressed). We love EVA, but even EVA is 13 hours to Taipei and, while better, it’s still not great. The Japanese airlines have an 11 hour flight to Tokyo, you get off, stretch and get a break, then have a 6 hour flight to your destination. Much better for us old farts. At 6’2” tall, I need to have premium economy, at a minimum, even though both ANA have regular economy seats that have 33” or 34” seat pitch. ANA’s pitch in PE is 38” and on JAL, it’s 42”. We’ve done both and it’s a tossup which is more comfortable. The bigger pitch on JAL is great, but the recline function on ANA seems better. Service wise, both are great. We’ve always been treated well whether it’s been business, PE or cattle class. Food-wise, I think ANA is slightly better in economy and PE. Business I’d give to JAL. Never, EVER, take an American carrier to Asia.
I’m taking my family on a trip to Japan in a month and the service and comfort reviews was one of the main reasons I chose Jal, I think I prefer to pay a little extra for a nice direct flight with good service than deal with the hassle of connections and only ok service, specially after a somewhat disastrous experience on my last trip somewhere else with a cancelled connection
I loved them both, but recently there was a huge price hike since 2 months ago. I live in Indonesia; so from what was estimated around 5 - 10 million Rupiah for a direct flight from Jakarta to Tokyo, now it's at least 2x of the highest estimated fare. Now we have no choice but to fly via 1x transit flight, which costs even more expensive than 10 million Rupiah now (it was around 3-4 millions before).
Prices HAVE gone up as people have started travelling again. My last trip from Mainland USA to Southeast Asia was in February. I'm going back in August and lodging and airfare are at least 35-40% higher.
Loved the vlog. Though I would like to make a correction. You said cool technology of ANA. Brother that's a classic feature of Boeing 787-9 aircraft model. 😂. Any other airlines nowadays having that model running has this feature. Though I love Japan. Much love to both of you ❤. I'll surely visit Japan very soon. Love from India 🇮🇳 🤝 🇯🇵
I absolutely loved ANA when I flew, but I want to point out that the windows are specific to 787s and all 787s have them, not just ANA. Automatic toilet sensors and faucet taps are also found on most Boeing aircraft, especially widebodies, and even some widebody Airbus aircraft. Also not specific to ANA.
Agree , Japan and Ana airline is the best , good service and food . Don't take United Airline , the service and the food is suck and the seat is not comfortable at all

Flying with them again on the 20th to Kuala Lumpur 4th time with them best service even better then Singapore airlines that’s saying a lot too because Singapore is up there!! Let’s go Ana
The best deal I've ever had on an International flight was with ANA in 2018. It was also the best service I have ever received. The only flaw I can find is their choice to fly the 787 over the far superior A350.
I haven’t flown JAL or ANA in economy but their premium and business products are far superior than most carriers. I’ve flown business, premium and economy on the Tokyo route aboard Delta and it’s definitely not the same in any category. However, with the service and food are superior, the entertainment options on JAL are very limited. You’re better off bringing your own.
Delta one is good. United is OK. I will say united Polaris is on par with JAL biz but cant beat Ana new room (well so far no one can, maybe Lufthansa in the near future). Never fly their Y so can't comment. Flew both in F, J, and pe. Like NH new PE more than JL.
I always use JAL when travelling to Japan. Their premium economy is underrated. I like the way how their seats reclined and not invading other people's space.

Love JAL, and the FA's simple bow to the passengers at the start of in-flight service, and before they take their seats for landing adds a nice touch to their overall service, putting themselves over SIA and Emirates. Only problem is they are always on the pricey end of the fare spectrum and far out from the median range for flights out of SFO towards Asia. But once I get past that hurdle, their level of service is unmatched.
I'll be returning from Southeast Asia in August on ANA. I haven't flown them in the past, but I have a couple long-hauls on JAL. It's a decent airline, but the WORST food I've had in the air! Also, regarding those electrochromic smart glass windows on the 787. While the increased pressurization makes flights more comfortable, I'm thoroughly tired of the crews commandeering the dimming function on both American and JAL and blacking windows out and leaving them dark throughout the flight. Worst example? Took off from DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas USA) around noon for a flight to Tokyo Haneda. By 12:30PM the crew had blacked out all windows and darkened the cabin. I don't know about your experience and I hope ANA doesn't follow a similar practice.
Many years ago, when I flew to Japan, I took ANA. The seats weren't as nice as the ones you had, but the green tea came in a China cup! Staff kept coming over to see the blonde who kept asking for green tea (which I guess was unusual back then).
Maybe I missed it, but did you just do an airline review without mentioning seating? comfort or dimensions? Like doing a light bulb review without mentioning lumens.
I have taken ANA, Singapore Air, and United to Japan. ANA is definitely the best choice. BTW the window dimming is a Boeing 787 tech and has nothing to do with the airline.
When it comes to both JL and NH they their partners Oneworld AA and Star Alliance UA loses to both Japanese carriers while being equal to their fellow Asian carriers within their Alliances (OW JL = CX = MH > AA) Star Alliance (NH = CA= OZ = TG = BR = SQ = North America AC > UA) except for PR (Philippine Airlines) where both JL & NH top the oldest airline in the region just like how they beat UA and AA. Yes, they are mostly Native American staff in Seattle airport. They can speak both English and Japanese.
you need to learn English and Japanese before flying with them
Reason : because they are Japanese airline
I've flown SFO to NRT about 22 round trips in the past 30 years I've never flown on any USA carrier because they are terrible. United and American are the worst!! Stay away! On USA domestic flights
, basically I have no choice. I used to fly SJC to ORD (chicago) 10 times a year, and on those flights, you have to fly United or America, Anyways, have a great holiday!
I flew ANA Business Class Bangkok to Los Angeles return. This airline is grossly overrated and was my most disappointing trip to the US. I would not recommend them at all.
Agreed
