@@DrumdumsOfficial It will come down to Lily and Emma, and as much as Lily crushed her role, and she did, she didn't carry the movie like Emma did. Flower Moon was Leo's film that Lily was in, Poor Things lived and died by Emma, and she did the thing.

Definitely one of my favorites of 2023, and one I have to see in cinemas again, probably this week. Beautiful visuals, grotesque yet thoughtful scenarios, and I'll even agree there was an air of woe to the sex scenes as they evolved.
Also fun to see Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott share the screen after seeing them in Sanctuary earlier in the year, which had some similar themes to this one.

5:17 sexuality is a major focus because the story is in fact a male fantasty. In the book we find out in the end that this version of her story -- weirdly, the only version they chose to show in the film -- is very loosely based on the truth and written by a man who was obsessed with her.

@@DrumdumsOfficial I haven't read the book, but from what I understand it's not just the sex stuff. The entire plot about her being a resurrected corpse is claimed by her to have been a fabrication by her husband (Ramy Youssef's character in the movie). I can see why they chose not to include that in this version.

@DrumDums I haven’t seen this movie yet, and it’s weird because I like monster movies and it really seems to me that, this at a very basic level is a coming of age story told through the lens of bride of Frankenstein or something like that at least from the trailers, in a very basic sense, I’m 50/50 on “artsy shit” as your wife put it and I must say, just like any movie “artsy” or not, it all depends on if I find the story/basic premise interesting and the basic premise of “coming of age” story told through the lens of bride of Frankenstein basically, does kind of get me interested, so I will give it a fair shot since it’s streaming on Hulu now, I’m not saying I will like it but, I don’t know if I will or not unless, I give the entire movie a fair shake right?

Truly subversive film. Emma creates a character like no other. I'm sure Lily Gladstone will win the Oscar and not to diminish from her performance but for an indigenous actress to play an indigenous woman isn't as much of a stretch as what Emma had to do here. The narrative for Lily will be too good to pass up though and I would be happy for her, but Emma's performance will be the one to live on, imo.

Wow I just watched it and Emma was looking good to me. I remember how Showgirls was a big deal in the 90's with the NC-17 rating and I'm pretty shocked that this got an R rating. I haven't watched Showgirls in years but I'm pretty sure it had far less sex scenes compared to this movie. Putting that aside, I thought it was a good movie but I didn't agree with all the feminist messages that women should just have all this sex without regret. They have the right but many studies have shown that women don't feel empowered or feel good about themselves if they have a bunch of casual sex. I was annoyed by how she treated the nice guy and he never stood up for himself. He had every right to be mad at her and no self-respecting man would want that woman. I also thought the last 45 mins or so was the weakest part of the movie. I would still go like a 7.5/10.

Also , I am not influenced by media and I don't even have socials, I'm just very observant.
