Favorite movie of 2023 hands down. Watched it 3 times already. My friends all thought it was phenomenal too
Nice!
One of the first things I told my girlfriend when we left the theater was, Emma Stone just won a second Oscar.
I hope Lily wins.
Yeah she deserves it for that performance.
They will give it to the Indian chick because they need a diversity win.
@@EddieHenderson92 I preferred her performance.
@@DrumdumsOfficial It will come down to Lily and Emma, and as much as Lily crushed her role, and she did, she didn't carry the movie like Emma did. Flower Moon was Leo's film that Lily was in, Poor Things lived and died by Emma, and she did the thing.
The movie that gave a special meaning to trying some vegetables at the breakfast table! 😂
Definitely one of my favorites of 2023, and one I have to see in cinemas again, probably this week. Beautiful visuals, grotesque yet thoughtful scenarios, and I'll even agree there was an air of woe to the sex scenes as they evolved.
Also fun to see Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott share the screen after seeing them in Sanctuary earlier in the year, which had some similar themes to this one.
I hate that I didn't get to see it in cinemas. I had a press screener and was still blown away by the visuals.
I saw Sanctuary last night and loved that one as well, only realized after that I had just seen the two stars together in this.
One of the best movies of the year. simply insane
Yup!
Great review. I can't wait to check this film out. I love The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Yes Killing of a Sacred Deer is amazing.
Both of those movies are way better than poor things. So don't get your expectations too high. Poor things is great, don't get me wrong. Just not as good as his former films.
This is one that I had no knowledge of; but hearing the cast is reason enough for me to check by it out; thanks for the review.
Welcome David!
Poor Things is my favorite movie of 2023. I loved every minute of that movie
Nice!
Most honest reviewer 🔥 Lets goo
Thank you!
Had to stop watching when spoilers were mentioned, as I want to go into this completely blind, if possible. Whilst I was already interested in 'Poor Things', suffice to say I'm now sold, based on the small part of this review I watched - thank you.
You're welcome. Enjoy!
Same. I’m planning on seeing this at the weekend and definitely want to go in blind.
Just came back from seeing it today, and I have to say that I think it's an exceptional film, absolutely brilliant. I'll be buying it on physical media when it comes out.
This was 100% for me. There's still a lot of movies from 2023 I haven't seen but Poor Things is easily on the top of my list right now.
I'm glad I at least finally watched it.
Nice Review
Mr. Lee
I Haven't Heard Of This Movie
But This Is One Of My Favorite Things

Thank you Polly!
Great review - thanks. I suspect this won't be for me but I enjoyed the review 👍
Thanks for watching!
Inspired by Coppolas Dracula must be good
Oh definitely.
I watched it twice. Yep, its that damn good.
Great review, bro.
You know it brother!
Sweet True Romance shirt too!
Thank you!
at first i was like what the hell have i got myself into. then as i watched the film was fascinated and disturbed at the same time. well-acted, directed and written.
Yeah it’s such a unique take on the Frankenstein story.
5:17 sexuality is a major focus because the story is in fact a male fantasty. In the book we find out in the end that this version of her story -- weirdly, the only version they chose to show in the film -- is very loosely based on the truth and written by a man who was obsessed with her.
Interesting. Thank you for sharing.
@@DrumdumsOfficial I haven't read the book, but from what I understand it's not just the sex stuff. The entire plot about her being a resurrected corpse is claimed by her to have been a fabrication by her husband (Ramy Youssef's character in the movie). I can see why they chose not to include that in this version.
my wife really wants to see this movie. we are probably gonna check it out on friday. after seeing your review, i have to see it looks pretty interesting. excellent review, thanks
Enjoy it!
@DrumDums I haven’t seen this movie yet, and it’s weird because I like monster movies and it really seems to me that, this at a very basic level is a coming of age story told through the lens of bride of Frankenstein or something like that at least from the trailers, in a very basic sense, I’m 50/50 on “artsy shit” as your wife put it and I must say, just like any movie “artsy” or not, it all depends on if I find the story/basic premise interesting and the basic premise of “coming of age” story told through the lens of bride of Frankenstein basically, does kind of get me interested, so I will give it a fair shot since it’s streaming on Hulu now, I’m not saying I will like it but, I don’t know if I will or not unless, I give the entire movie a fair shake right?
Cumming of age.
My favorite film of 2023 easily
Perfect title.
I’m not an artsy movie guy at all. Honestly, a majority of A24 movies aren’t my thing (I know this isn’t A24) but same gist. But I really liked this movie. Thought it was hilarious and thought provoking with top tier acting. Top 5 film of 2023 for sure.
And that's totally cool. I have a threshold myself.
Poor Things has been on my watch list for a couple of weeks now. Your review definitely made me want to watch it even more, Lee😎🤘 Its funny because since I saw 2022's "Three Thousand Years of Longing" staring Idris Elba & Tilda Swinton, I've been more open to films with a unique visual & storytelling style that normal moviegoers just wouldn't understand. Thanks again for your honest review & looking forward to your next video, my friend.
Yeah I love these types of films.
here i was getting excited and nope not a digital or physical release yet, not even playing in a theater near me lol
guess im gonna be waiting a bit for this one.
I hate living in australia sometimes we miss out on so much
Yeah man it sucks. But hopefully it'll come your way soon.
I just subscribed to your wonderful channel & I would love for you to review director Paul Harmon's excellent 1982's drama thriller "The Dark Room ". Many thanks & keep up your fantastic work! Carla in San Francisco CA
Thank you! I'll check out The Dark Room.
I’m in the same boat with your wife. I pretty much hated it.
Now I'm very anxious to see this movie! I always know that I might not like something that looks this weird. Regardless of how beautiful they are visually, I'm not a fan of the kind of films that David Lynch makes. (NONSENSE, imo) I want story! Thanks for the spoiler/not spoiler warning before the plot synopsis, Lee. This sounds like the kind of weird that's right up my alley. Now I'm gonna SEE IT FOR MYSELF!
Yes and there is a good story here.
I wanted to watch Poor Things because I've never seen anything from Lanthimos and because trailer gave me serious horror vibes. Also, Emma Stone is one of my biggest screen crushes, but my god what she's doing in this movie is testament to her acting skills. Hats off.
The Beekepeer, Dream Scenario and now this. Nice start, 2024.
Yeah she's really goes for it.
I saw the movie last weekend and loved it. Excellent performances.
Indeed.
This movie seems to be interesting. I might check it out. I’m really glad you mentioned showgirls and Paul verhoeven!!!!! Definitely one of my fav directors ever. (Robocop my fav movie of all time ❤) I’d LOVE to see you review showgirls and robocop, Lee !!!! PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN !!!! Showgirls is an underrated masterpiece lol. That movie is amazing, I genuinely enjoy it. Very sad it was a flop. Review showgirls !!
Those would be really fun reviews haha. I love Verhoeven so much.
I waited to see this and now it's not at AMC anymore 😢
Yeah I figured it would be gone soon.
@@DrumdumsOfficial Actually, great news!
I work at AMC so I get to see movies for free, luckily there's just one AMC in Charlotte that still playing it, but today is it's last day!!!!
So I'm so excited to see it even more now that I realized how close I was to missing out!!!
Favorite movie of the year.. Emma Stone was legendary in this film.
She most certainly was.
So your lady is like Jane six pack? You were a fly on that wall.
Haha exactly.
Yo drumdums what’s that horror movie subscription called again?
Horror Pack?
@@DrumdumsOfficial Thanks😂 sorry for the random question
@@javaristolefree9702 No problem!
Yeah, I just don't want to watch a movie about having sex with Mark Ruffalo. I think I'm going to skip this one.
Hahaha
haha I have to say Mark Ruffalo's ass is pretty unremarkable!
I think this film is just down right creepy. Especially the sexual content. Not a prude about sex scenes at all, go for it. But it is so exploitative. Coming of age? Really? Still a child inside an adult body. Serious sick. Also, thismovie and story completely lacks the true emotion of the real Frankstein story written by Mary Shelley.
Poor Things is too overdone, way overdone.
Completely agree!
Great review of this interesting Frankenstein movie
i just love Emma Stone, she's up there with Aubrey Plaza for me. i love their actual personalities so i know they pick pretty decent things to be in. hasn't failed me yet!
My jaw dropped at her performance in this.
Some have said this movie should have had a NC-17, rating.
I think so.
Masterwork in my opinion. The costumes were incredible and I never look at costumes.
Yep. The costume work was amazing.
I’m completely confused with whether I want to see this or not. Completely zany movies don’t tend to be for me, but akin to Saltburn, there are so many allusions to certain scenes, I feel like I at least need to see it.
If you like Yorgos' movies, then this one is definitely for you.
You're the first reviewer that has reviewed this for me. It doesn't exactly sound like horror and I think it's even getting nominated for awards. Anyway good review and cool video Lee! 👉🙂👈
Yeah it's not really horror.
@@DrumdumsOfficial 👍
Emma Stone like that ???? 🐐🐐🐐
I thought Willem's scars were from his father making him? Isnt he the Frankenstein in this?
You're probably right. I wasn't sure.
On your next stream will u be talking about danny boyle and the writer returning for 28 years later
Yes.
A fantastic film. Can't wait to see it again. ❤
When the screener came in.
Ensign Lee's lies came out.
A Shillgasm and two 10'S!!!!!!
Was there ever any doubt?
"Emma Stone is a ginger goddess!!!!!!!"
"This script was tried and true."
"Oscar bait I love you."
Private Lee is the guy who delivers "truth."
Thank you for your service.
Without you what would the Movie Studios do?
My ancient frenemy from Swampwater Florida you are always a hoot.
Remind me to never borrow a movie from you.
Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Its gonna be VERY divisive to the gen pop but this movie was so damn good. Emma Stone's performace was awesome. Mark Ruffalo did damn well in both his roles as stud womanizer turned jealous simp. I just wish they were more clear on the time jumps because its giving too much ammo to the haters. Even the side characters were great in this.
I agree on the time jumps. That's the part I was confused by.
This is in my TOP 3 movies of the year...
Same!
Truly subversive film. Emma creates a character like no other. I'm sure Lily Gladstone will win the Oscar and not to diminish from her performance but for an indigenous actress to play an indigenous woman isn't as much of a stretch as what Emma had to do here. The narrative for Lily will be too good to pass up though and I would be happy for her, but Emma's performance will be the one to live on, imo.
Yeah Lily was great, buy Emma was on another level.
Can we stop with Indigenous when it's incorrect? Nobody including Indians started in North America.
Took a girl on a first date to see this. We both didn’t know anything about it, it was kind of awkward but we both thought it was okay.
I can imagine it was awkward 😂
Oh boy. Must've been such an awkward date haha.
To sum up this movie as 'okay' sounds like the bland dating the bland
@@frederickschneider3165 I would hope your only this rude online and not in person.
LOVED this movie!!!
So good.
I have no interest in this film.
I completely understand that.
Did not care for this one. I recognize that it was strong on quite a few fronts, but I felt as though they spent way too much emphasis on the sexual awakening. Ho-hum
Like I said...not for everyone.
By everyone you mean non Jeffrey Epstien fans.
Grace Randolph(BTT) HATES this film. Lol.
Of course she does.
You barely talk about the the subject matter. Too much technical jargon to start off . without knowing wtf I'd be watching
Are you serious clown? This entire video is about the movie. Smh.
Wow I just watched it and Emma was looking good to me. I remember how Showgirls was a big deal in the 90's with the NC-17 rating and I'm pretty shocked that this got an R rating. I haven't watched Showgirls in years but I'm pretty sure it had far less sex scenes compared to this movie. Putting that aside, I thought it was a good movie but I didn't agree with all the feminist messages that women should just have all this sex without regret. They have the right but many studies have shown that women don't feel empowered or feel good about themselves if they have a bunch of casual sex. I was annoyed by how she treated the nice guy and he never stood up for himself. He had every right to be mad at her and no self-respecting man would want that woman. I also thought the last 45 mins or so was the weakest part of the movie. I would still go like a 7.5/10.
Oh definitely. She looks great.
Too much unnecessary crap in this movie. Made for shock valid only.
This film just sounds like a typical Hollywood feminist movie. Sorry to say that, but I'm very hesitant with what Hollywood brings out lately, and just by reading the sypnosis, I can honestly say it's more evident and probably not for me.
It's anything but typical. And it's so refreshing to be open minded and not be influenced by social media. I don't do that at all. Not knocking you, but just some perspective. "Feminist" movies have been around for ages. You could even say Aliens has feminist aspects. And that's ok.
What he ⬆️ said
@@DrumdumsOfficial I know they have been around for a while, but most movies back then did it right, without trying to throw an agenda down your throat every 5 seconds. Films that do it now are drenched in political views, and I'm really not in to politics. I watch a film to escape.
Also , I am not influenced by media and I don't even have socials, I'm just very observant. I'm one of the most open minded people out there, but I notice and pick up on things, which i'm concerned about in the current state of affairs in Hollywood and how they have ruined certain characters and franchises due to certain agendas. You can't say you don't see it, especially in Marvel. You say you're not knocking me, so why you being passive aggressive with your comment saying its refreshing to be open minded? I'm not a child.
@@abrimfulofasha Hey call it what you want. Passive aggressive fine. But I got my point across. I don't like shit shoved down my throat either, and I call it when I see it (Looking at you Black Christmas 2019). But far too often people pass on movies because they're favorite smeartuber is already shitting on it. I don't do that. F that.
Does feminist to you mean 'stars a woman?'
I don’t trust anyone who likes this movie. There is something very wrong with you all.
Then definitely don't trust me.
