When making a shawl, I always use a larger hook to get that soft feel. But, I do something different for blocking my shawls. Once completed, I put it in the sink of warm/hot water & fabric softener and let it soak for about a half hour. But, I DO NOT wring the water out. I take the soaked shawl out to my clothesline, and using T pins, I stretch it out as far as I can, pinning it down all the way across. The weight of the water in the shawl pulls it downward, and I just let it hang & drip dry. I do this because it opens up the stitches, and gives the an even more lacy look, no matter what size yarn I used. Except, I don’t use any yarn over the standard 4 ply. With 50 years of crochet, the past 10 years have been spent making over 200 shawls for my charity. They are given out to women in my area who are sick. And in 2018, my a group from my church took 2 dozen on their trip to Haiti, for the women in the mission hospital. Just wanted to share that with you.
@@nicolacarter5277 Each end of the shawl and the center, the T pin goes through the line to keep it stretched out. Then, between the T pins, you can use clothes pins to prevent it from drying with a swag. It’s self explanatory once the T pins are in place. You will use the clothes pins to maintain a straight edge. It may sound complicated, but it’s not. And, if you don’t have T pins, you can use safety pins, just as long as they are inserted through the line.
I've nearly finished my gold hill shawl I live and I want to make another. It's so fast and simple to make I love it and so do alot of people who have seen me make it today ice been asked if I sell any of my projects. I am on row 45 and I started at about 3 pm. I delighted with it. Thank you Anja x
Thank you so much for this beautiful, fun and easy pattern. I love it! It will be on my top of "go to patterns". I crochet for the ladies around me that can't. 🧶🐑🦙💚
Thank you Anya an for this beautiful Shawl tutorial, as you know my tension on your Squares was 4mm, because of my arthritis in hands i struggle to use any hook over a 5mm .so i know i ciuld not go to 7mm so might give this one a miss, but its so beautiful. An Stylecraft is my go to yarn for Shawls an baby blankets.
I know shawls normally don't come in sizes, but when I made my only shawl, a pocket shawl, I had to make it longer than the pattern called for to get it around my shoulders. How can I make this wider at the top to fit around a larger woman like myself?
It would have been easier to know how much yarn there is in each skein. It's a big difference between 5 skeins with 50 g and 5 skeins with 100 g in each... I have many issues of getting to know how much yarn a project needs. I'm from Sweden 🇸🇪 and that doesn't make anything easy at all... 😂😂😂
@@OpheliaTalks - Thank You!!! That really makes everything so much easier! I'm trying to find some yarn in my stash for that wonderful shawl made of halv double crochet, but I don't have enough yarn. Have to try to find something useful in a shop... But I wanted to start immediately yesterday when I watched the video! ‼️ 😃😃😃
such a simple and easy shawl to make but so effective and lacy and cosy! Enjoy Anja xxx
Simple pattern with elegant results. Just lovely!
Awww thanks Gayle, glad you like it, Anja x

How do they stay on the clothes line with just T pins? or do you peg them to the line?

Hello, thank you for watching, to make it bigger you just need to crochet more rows, Anja x
Lovely !
Just fabulous 👍👍😍❤️🙏🏻
Wow gorgeous shawl! Love it! Can this be done in 100% acrylic yarn?
Stylecraft Special DK IS acrylic Karen, Anja x
@@OpheliaTalks ok thanks ill use what ever acrylic i have then and what size hook for the usa? I get confused with the hook sizes uk terms
Can I use worsted weight yarn for this shawl?
You can, but you'll need less stitches and rows or it will be too big! Anja x
Very pretty but I have a question are you going in the back loops
No, I use both strands if the V and i will always say if it it BLO or FLO!
💓💓💓💓💓💓
How thick is this wool?
This is Stylecraft Special DK so it's a 3 weight yarn, hope this helps, Anja x
Thanks🥰❤
