I don't know why Mat seems to be hush on Audis and I'm sorry but Audi so far will never make a RWD coz it seems every generalist turns to criticize FWD and praise RWD .Lets be honest the A5 Sportsback is beautiful

Sportback sedans are what I'd choose over an SUV. Examples other than the A5? Tesla Model S, Kia Stinger, Volkswagen Arteon, Porsche Panamera.

Kade O'Donnell realistically probably even inferior. Remember this shares a lot of components with cheaper VWs so emphasis is on cost cutting and interior ergonomics, not so much how it drives and reliability.
David C I think Audi need to up their game a bit. People use to buy an Audi because there luxury & sporty and stand out from other cars on the road. Now they look like any other car on the road.
Kade O'Donnell my dad sells ford's and it's definitely an under rated car . my uncle bought a titanium one with all the extras and it's a great car . the outside looks amazing and the inside is just as good . lovely seats and dash . has heated seats/ steering wheel / wind screen . front/back parking sensors .and still cheaper then a over rated a5

You are wrong, any other car is trying to look like Audi. Just look at the recent LED headlight designs with dynamic indicators. They steal what is unique to Audi and slap it on their own designs. Audi still is class-leading when it comes to interior, ride quality and aerodynamics...
Has that ugly front look on the A5 growing on anyone yet? Why Audi didn't keep the front of the A4?(_my guess is that if they did then the A5 Sportback would have been better than the A7._)
The new 2018 Ford Mustang got the same type of unnecessary ugly front treatment.

Love watching carwow reviews even though I'm a Brit living in the US and a lot of the cars reviewed aren't even here. One suggestion, when transitioning from reviewing the interior/exterior to actually driving the car, filming how the engine starts would be a nice touch. Maybe show how the car ignition works first (key or start/stop button) then show the exhaust as the engine turns on so we can hear the car's engine note too. Nothing too long, just a 5 second clip so we can hear how the engine lights up depending on if it's a petrol/diesel/electric, etc...

That's because of the colour. White cars are always boring. I just saw one in blue and it looked totally stunning. And its definitely one of those cars that look way better in reality than on video or pictures.
The refreshed design is ... ugly. I don't really like it. They messed something up with the front and rear of the car.

Had the original. Horrible car in terms of reliabilty and driving but still in love with the looks. This new one.... meh. No soul. Audi switched design team in the middle of the development and it shows.

holydevil20 the Q7 I would choose, if you like volvos get that but the Range Rover has bad technology and it's a rip off for what it is, not it mention reliability is rubbish
holydevil20 would suggest an XC90.
holydevil20 RRS is best to drive and highest desirability , Volvo has best interior however I'd say look at a Mercedes GLS and not an Audi Q7

I link the look of the front of the new A5 but it's just not as good looking as the previous version.
BMW 4 series Gran Coupe has more backseat room, more boot space and more fun to drive. You're better off getting that or just buy a more practical, cheaper A4.

Richie Chou Why is the A4 more practical? The A5 is more practical, as it has a bigger trunk space and bigger trunk opening. Also, the A5 is better in comparison tests than the outdated BMW 4. Usually the newest car is also the best one in this tests. The interior and exterior of the 4 series also look very outdated, especially the interior which they haven't changed for 10y. Mercedes and Audi are doing a better job there
its just personal prefence so it doesnt make sense to discuss which car is better !

Very strange drawbacks! 40 liter fuel tank???? Come on Audi, even my small Peugeot 208 has a 50 liter fuel tank, why would you spare on something like that? And those rear windows open only half way??? Sometimes the small things on a car which you do not notice when you buy them, annoy you the most.

Sorry Matt, all depends how you drive, and clearly your figures are a bit off. Just came back from a 1500 miles trip though London, traffic jams, French motorways, more traffic jams, mountains, more traffic jams and back to london, with 4 people and boot full of luggage and the 2 litre diesel car averaged 58mpg.
With Australian car manufacturing ending this year it'd be pretty cool if you did a Vauxhall VXR8 review for us Aussie subscribers. October 20th will be a deeply sad day

They got this thing wrong. From the side it looks like it's collapsing down at the middle. The interior looks like they took the worst things about Mercedeseseses and BMWs and got rid of any Audiness.
Sometimes it feels like car manufacturers make an ugly car every now and then so their next car gets better reviews. This is a prime example. Riding the wave of the previous gen As and will revamp with better design next gen. Ugly AF front face...

The Pre-Audi 2013 Sportback is tipped to be modern Day classic. Sadly Audi have soiled the look of this car. I'm very happy with my white A5 Sportback from 2012. It's an s-line so the ride is a bit firm, but I still love that car :)

John Wick yes that is one of the few things I liked about my A3 sedan, only other Audi that uses it is the Q7 don't know if A8 has it.

have pampered to that market as this is the first generation of the A5SB to hit
the States... It's a massive shift from the last A5 and the main characteristic
of the A5, the tornedo line is totally lost in the harshness of the new sharp
lines, such a pity as the A5 WAS one of the best looking cars in the Audi range…

There are a lot of comments comparing the new shape of the A5 to the Mondeo. That's awful for Audi.
The original 'old' 2008 A5 and its 2012 facelift were an original design for Audi. Nothing could touch it looks wise in its time.
The now 'old' A5 is still a stunner and I believe was THE inspiration for the BMW 4 Gran Coupe, the Ford Mondeo Fusion and the new Merc C Class coupe. I don't think this can be disputed. Audi's single angular grill was aggressive and mean. Everyone copied it.
Audi had a chance to really improve on the original A5 but have decided to follow the others after it Originally Inspired them, if that makes sense which is a little disappointing.
However this is not to take away from the quality vehicle it is. It's faster more efficient and built beautifully.
I'd take the new Mercedes C class over the new a5 design but definitely not over the 2012 facelift

Tesla Model 3 has no tunnel hump for the middle seat has better head room with a larger standard glass roof, along with better leg room.
There's a trunk under the trunk and a frunk.
Model 3 Interior is way nicer with a home cabin feel without those huge ugly airvents all across the Audi making it feel so outdated along with its waste of space gear selecter, buttons and puny screen.
Also the grill is ugly like someone stole the front panel of the car. It's gory and disgusting like it's tailpipe. And ugh that manual gas cap sucks compared to the futuristic automatic charge port on the Tesla.

Audi is an all-purpose car. It brings you to different places with some comfort and a little bit of dynamism. If you are looking for a fun car, go for a BMW.

The front of this new A5 looks like some fat guys sitted on top of the bonnet, and pushed it in. Gonna miss the old one.
HI Matt, i have an A5 Coupe (2017 MODEL) with tour pack and have an issue. Just checking do you have the same when you tested. My Active Cruise Control dont register any object stationary in front of my car such as vehicles waiting on the traffic lights. I reported it to Audi dealership and they test drove my car and another car (A5 sportback) with ACC and they both had the same issue. Audi Germany or tech assistance has emailed the dealership back to say the Audi system does work like that and it doesnt stop the car for any stationary vehicle in the front unless the vehicle in front had a slight movement at least. which is a shame as I didnt expect this from Audi. They said they cant do anything about it and it is not a fault. They say its working as per the operating manual. I cant believe that Audi ACC is not taking a stationary object in to consideration as an obstacle and initiate the braking. I managed to get away on many occasions by slamming the brakes at the last minute without rear ending crashing the vehicle in the front waiting for the traffic lights. This is happening on any speeds.
This is the reply from Audi UK Techies: ‘Hi Thomas, this is not a complaint and is not a fault, what you have described is normal operation and is describes in the owners’ manual, see attached (they attached a copy) please refer to the manual, the system will not always detect stationary vehicles, the driver is responsible for the vehicle and needs to take control when approaching the end of a stationary traffic queue’
I am sure this is not the case and they are just covering it off with a statement in the manual.
Funny thing is the Audi pre-sense and auto emergency braking is inactive when ACC is active, so it is not preventing any crash in to the stationary vehicle in the front.
I am sure you have tested many cars and A5 as well, just wondering if this is really the case or Audi is just trying to cover up the fault on them?
+Prabhu Murugaiya hmmm. Do a test drive in another car and try it. Then you can see. Auto emergency braking works with a stationary object - I've tried it.
Yes I have tried the same on the Audi Q7 with the same system (tour pack) installed and also on another A5 sportback back to back alongside with the dealer techy on my car and the A5 Sportback. All the cars have the same issue.
AEB works fine when the ACC is not active. When the ACC is active, i found the both the AEB and Audi pre-sense is not working as ACC takes over those system. I find the Audi pre-sense pings when slam the brake at the very last second before crashing.
The good situation is when you are following a car with the ACC on and suddenly the car you followed moved lanes and there is another stationary car waiting on the traffic lights my car is not registering it even if there is enough clearing distance available for it to identify the vehicle.
Another situation is, when you take a turn and activate the ACC, and then there is a stationary bus in the bus stop, it doesnt recognise it, it is accelerating towards the vehicle. I have tried with all settings combination. with 6 cars distance between the car in the front and my car compared to 3 as default. All speeds from 30MPH, 40 MPH or 60 MPH.

Nice shade of white but thats it. This car seems quite dull, better alternatives out there in this price range especially on the used/second hand market.

When rear seats are folded the booth floor is a little inclined. You are talking about this as a negative attribute when you are talking about Civic and as a positive attribute when you present A5. I suspect you are a little favoring German cars over Japanese.
