- The Dave Weckl STL Groove Contingent is one of Dave Weckl's two local St. Louis projects when he’s not on the road. The band features: Rocky Mantia (keys/vox), Teddy McCready (gtr/vox), John King (bass) and Jim Stevens (sax).
This is an outtake from the January 25 show at Sky Music Lounge in Ballwin, MO.

My late friend and drummer, Tom Parisi, used to live in an apartment next door to Dave in New Rochelle NY. We used to listen to Dave practice through the walls ;-). He was amazing then but not yet famous. Not long after that I got a chance to jam with Dave at the Crazy Horse Cafe in New Rochelle. Not long after that he was playing with Chick Corea. The rest is history. Congrats on a remarkable career.

Dave is an artist and his drum sticks are his brushes. He’s not even thinking about his limbs, he’s playing on pure feeling. Such an ease and effortlessness here.

Weckl is truly one of the all time greatest. So relaxed, so smooth. He's as close to perfect as you can get!
His time is beyond this Earth, and some far distant Galaxy is still wondering where the Universe's perfect drummer went.
Last two minutes were just a gift to the rest of us who either just quit, or practice much more diligently so we can "try" to play Dave.

Been following Dave since I started playing in 1980. He NEVER ceases to amaze me. Clean, articulate, precise, musical and GROOVE.
I admire how this man tends to not only do fantastic tight solos effortlessly but also keeps grooving while doing so. Not getting carried away too much and keeping the song alive, awesome, love him.

What a GREAT right hand 16th notes groove on hi-hats. He doesn’t miss a stroke. Not so easy to play this with that speed. It is around 90 with a timer. He is so relaxed. Playing this groove is like drinking water for him. He is the best👌👌👌👌
Dave's supernatural command of time and coupling it with something akin to silky stylistic phrasings that are incomprehensible to mere mortal drummers is astonishing. Sometimes all you can do is say "Wow".
Just what I came here to say! That finish...another wow...what a great influence of phrasing and timing and open spaces.
I must say, it looks like Dave is having a blast , just groovin’ , he looks genuinely happy …..great to witness

Dave gives off a persona that he'd be a master of any career choice he would have made. He's truly a gifted but serious artist. Thank you for sharing yourself with all of us!!!
The sheer consistency of that drumming. Holding the band together when needed, soloing when needed. Simply a lesson.

He always has the best sounding kits! Easily my favorite drummer. His pocket and feel is so incredible. Dude blows my mind every time. Big props to that bass player too for holding that pocket down!

I went to a Chick Corea video to watch Frank Gambale cause I'm into guitarists and Dave was playing. This MF single handedly turned me into a fan of percussion and I can't get enough of this man.

I love it when he uses his groove, accents and dynamics rather than speed. It would be great for Dave to play a jazzette to show his infinite talent and pocket on a Soul album, including, of course Use Me. I would spend many, many nights in this place listening and cheering for this band....

Fab Band! Dave Weckl is so loved through these Funk Fusion decades! Last time I was fortunate to catch him LIVE was many Good Moons ago at The Roadhouse here in NYC. Amazing muusical memory to sit 10 feet away at the Bar and just get flooded with his Sounds!!!!!

The entire band is excellent. That bass player would be great to work with, what a musician. Now about Dave, he's a monster. So relaxed, smooth, tasteful, and yet powerful. I love the doubles he plays around the set with double bass drum hits (one pedal) interspersed. Fantastic.
