Her name is Abbey Smith. She is from West Memphis, Arkansas. Her mom was a science teacher and her dad was a preacher. She grew u in the church. She wrote this song specifically for this performance. This was the first time she had ever performed it in front of a live audience. This was also her "breakout" performance as an artist. There is no studio version of this song because she said that this performance was the epitome of how this song should have been performed and there will never be a better version. She chose her stage name "YEBBA" (yeh-buh) because it was the nickname her mother always called her. Her mom passed away a few weeks after this performance, which solidified her choice to keep her stage name. To say she's an amazing singer is not only an understatement but also distracts from the fact that she's a master storyteller. A genius in full control of her toolkit.

It's SO much fun seeing people react to Yebba, specifically this song, for the first time. I'm a 58 year old classic rocker, but I've easily watched over 50 reactions to this song. She's got other amazing songs too. Check out, if you haven't already, Evergreen, and October Sky.

Absolutely heart wrenching. I’ve listened to this song so many times and it still gets to me . She’s a very talented singer. Love your reactions, you don’t even have to say anything , your face speaks volumes. I totally agree with you what pop music is concerned, quality artists like Dimash, Diana Ankudinova etc. get no attention while the recycled pop songs get relentless play on the radio. There’s another artist that is amazing named “Faouzia”. She’s a Moroccan singer who lives in Canada. She has many fantastic songs, maybe start with “ tears of gold” Stripped version ( she’s best singing live). ✌

I am so glad that you said that when you asked if she was from your part of the world. From the moment I heard this song and I heard her lament, it sounded and was reminiscent of those wails that I've heard in different types of music from the Middle East, in Egypt and other places. I heard a whisper of Oum Khaltoum. I love this song in the way she sang it because it gives literal voice to the grief of a broken love and broken face. And the lament that she raises is perfectly appropriate for that.

Beautiful reaction. She is from my state of Arkansas, just outside of Memphis. The first thing you said after she finished is that she was preaching: she is a Baptist preacher's daughter, so well familiar with preaching.

Welcome to the magical world of Yebba (Abbey spelled backwards)! Please react to more of her - Cover of John Mayer's Gravity with Clark Beckham, her original songs Evergreen, October Sky and Boomerang (live version is a must) and her Tiny Desk concert. She has collaborated with Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Mark Ronson, Chance The Rapper, Drake, PJ Morton (They won a Grammy together) etc. All videos, songs and vocal talent are exceptional! It is a crying shame that she is not a household name...

i have seen many reaction of this and voice teacher, vocal coach´s and other speaking of technik´s and her tone´s, but no one seems to notice it, of course she has wailing tones, the story and the emotions she puts into it (heartache and anger) say it, what does a lovesick person do, cry, she has the sobs, the sighs, the whimpering, the bitter gasp and the pressed exhalation, transformed into tones of their singing. In other words "she cries the song in sorrow and rage" and the emotions she puts into it makes it so effective, remember and watch the performance again, you'll realize how impressive the song and her singing really is

so glad you resonated with this song so much! she’s unreal, and even though she was in some hardship when she did this song, her life actually took a very harsh turn right after this
her next song she did was ‘evergreen’ and the beats 1/apple music video version of it is a fantastic next yebba song!

You nailed it on the head! Your the first reaction video I’ve come across that actually worded it perfectly. The fact that you understand the interpretation of the song and could intellectually explain her talent speaks volumes about you. You have a new follower ❤ She also did a rendition with Clark Beckham on the song Gravity. Her vocals are stunning! You might want to check it out. 😊

You're the first person to mention something about thinking she was from your part of the world, when I first heard her about 4 years ago, I thought she was middle eastern at first, her name (although now I know it's just Abbey backwards) but also her almost yodelling in her runs is so different to the usual western way of singing. Never heard anyone else mention that😊
It's criminal that she isn't a household name, technically, I don't think there are many that can compare to her vocal agility and her ability to impart emotion while singing, so effortless.

In addition she’s an advocate for mental health awareness and support. Her mother committed suicide shortly after Yebba sang her original song “My Mind" and the song took on a new meaning representing mental health. She chose her performance name in tribute to her mother who called her by her nickname Yebba. She gave away
her original, “My Mind” for free to honor her momma. Ed Sheeran saw this performance and cried. He signed her onto his record label.

Hey Arab Man, this song by (Elizabeth Abbey Smith) YEBBA - ABBEY spelled backwards has been in circulation for several years. I am told that her mom took a gun and shot herself (committed suicide outside of YEBBA's apartment window) ) shortly after this girl released this song. One other caveat - if you REMOTELY look at hip hop dance, check out this French dancer called Les Twins (dances with his twin brother) Larry - who danced to it - blew up the internet with reactors reacting to it. That will make you CRY. Just type in to [RUclips - Les Twins Larry freestyle MY Mind by YEBBA]
