I love how you experiment and make the most beautiful things. My experiments don't always turn out so well. But you give me hope that I'll get better at it. Thank you for sharing.
This is a great technique when first starting out with a gel plate - no extra tools, and you quickly get a feel for how it works with inks you already have. Thanks for watching!
I blend inks on my Gel Press a lot because it doesn't give me any shoulder strain the way regular ink blending does. I like to call it one of my "low impact crafting" techniques. Great video!
Great video, Ardyth. All the cards turned out great! ❤️ You always have beautifully blended color combos. I’m on my way to join to gel plate groupies. Lol Please keep bringing gel plate inspiration. I’m truly excited about the possibilities. 😊
TFS Ardyth, I have definitely been inspired by your ink blending using a turntable and grip mat and have just bought one for my crafty space cheers Jackie from Oz 💜x

Amazing how smooth the gel plate blends. I like that turned able idea in st not t going to be in my business d get for a while. I thought no they all looked beautiful!
Heck, yeah! I'll be trying this. First, let me say thank you for reminding us of the importance of a juicy ink pad. Can't hear it enough. My eyes tire of rolling whenever I hear someone apologize for their not-so-great result because of the lack of ink. Second, my favorite from beginning to end was the gel print on Hammermill -followed by the index - make it a hybrid and ooooooooo! Thank you for sharing!
LOL! I am guilty of that - sometimes it seems like a real chore to refill the ink pads, but the difference in the result is worth it! Thanks so much for watching!
@@ardyth Me too. All kinds of browns and golds work well together too. And whenever swatching, I want to know which ‘muddy mixes’ might be useful for shadows or silhouettes.
Loved this video. Now I need a 6 inch brayer! All of the panels look great but my favorite is the last one too. . Maybe it is an optical illusion, but there is a glow between each color on where the ink was hand blended. When covered by another technique or element, it's not as noticeable between each panel, but it's still there. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting Ardyth.
When I first did it, I also didn't think to do layers and I got light, bubbly looking colours - which can be pretty, but it's good to have options. Thanks for watching!
I absolutely loved this video Ardyth ❤ I really struggle to get that perfect blend, mainly because I probably don’t have the best quality brushes. Some of my brushes have really stiff bristles for some reason, so may have to look into the Altenew ones. You make the gel press look so simple with the brayer so it gives me hope. I’m still getting used to the brayering technique, and maybe I need a wider brayer to get better results. Oh well, you’ve given me hope that I’ll get there one day! Loved the backgrounds and the cards 😊❤
Inkblending is definitely all about practicing! lol! It's taken me years to get to where I am and I'm still not always happy - that's why I have back up strategies for when the blending isn't as good as I want it! lol! Thanks for watching!
I rarely use a gel plate to ink blend. I need to do this again. I am making a journal that I printed images on one side but the backs are white. I will pull my gel plate out after a wall is painted and my table is clear again. Thank you for this!! When I'm using something thick, I can't spatter well with a fan brush. I use a small brush that doesn't hold a lot of paint. I also tap the handle on whatever is handy, which mens it is often tapped on the hand not holding it.
thanks for those tips - the fan brush is new to me, and so was the watered down paste, so I will keep practicing to figure it all out! lol! Thanks for watching!
I love the look of a blended background but I cannot get it to work for me no matter what I do or what tools I use - looks like I need to invest in a gel plate and a larger brayer!! Thanks Ardyth 🥰
You could even try the brayer direct to paper, although I do find a gel plate helpful. Keep practicing and let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for watching!
I have actually done this but have not gotten the results you did. I think I needed to use foam ink pads rather than my felt pads. I think if it was me, I would probably do a hybrid of the two. I liked that the colors on your real ink blended panel had more differentiation in the colors. Great video as usual!!
I would try adding more layers. Or maybe refilling your ink pads but definitely one of the advantages of Catherine's foam pads is that they transfer ink easily. Thanks so much for watching!
For blending I used the Altenew small blending brushes. They are the ones I use most. For applying the solar paste, I used Scrapbook . com domed foam blenders. There should be links to both in the video description. Thanks for watching!
They are all nice but I like the initial one best. I like the unmixed color. It seems the gel plate makes more brown, but if you used colors next to each other, like green and blue, that won't be an issue. 😊
I see that. I'm hoping that as I get more practice, I'll be even better at it. In the meantime, the hybrid panel at the very end seemed to be the best of both worlds! Thanks for watching!
Pretty card panels! Gel plate is not my jam (get it? "gel...JELLY" and "jam"? LOL!) ugh, sorry) I was going to try it but still haven't gotten around to buying one. I love what you do with it, though! For now, I'll stick to regular old ink blending with brushes or foam blenders. But thanks so much for sharing these ideas!
LOL! I like what you did there.... It's taken me a while to really warm up to my gel plate, and I think this is the easiest most intuitive technique with it for card makers who are (like me) a little nervous about 'mixed media' techniques, but I'm warming up to those too! Thanks so much for watching!
@@Dotalina33 that is a really interesting question that made me get it out to see! It's only about 3/4" above my glass mat, and I do not feel uncomfortable. Maybe like writing on a pad of paper, rather than flat on your desk (just thinking of a comparison you can try to see what you think). I've used it for both ink blending and for copic colouring and do not remember ever feeling like the height was a problem. Hope that's helpful!
Making sure you used up all that solar paste made me laugh. Waste not, want not, which is another reason I have so many backgrounds laying around. I can't seem to just wipe up my ink from the mat. I have to smoosh some card into it so I can use it all up. I'm getting better at ink blending but maybe this method will encourage me to do more. Also, I do love "making my own cardstock" by swinking my ink pad over the edges of the card base for my frames. So easy to get just the color I want/need. I like all the backgrounds and the cards, too.
That looks like so much fun. The possibilities are endless
Thanks so much for watching!
I love all three results! Each one is cool in it's own way.

Great ideas. This hybrid method might be helpful for those with hand/ arm/ shoulder issues who still want to ink blend. Thanks for the ideas!
