As a skinny dude who put on a lot of muscle and cant find pants to fit correctly throughout the whole leg this is an absolute life saver. Great vid man this is sick
Just got my first sewing machine. I remember in High School i purposely took sewing class to be around all the chicks but actually started liking sewing ..little did i know that one day I'd really need those skills to taper some older jeans and pants that were wider back in the day, umm MUCH WIDER...fast forward 20 years and now days I'd look like a clown wearing some of the jeans and pants i saved from the early 2000s Lol but fortunately..I found this channel to help refresh myself on how to taper.
PS: Anyone remember that FAD where we'd roll up & tuck the bottom of the pants around the ankle? Lol
Taking in my sons dress pants for homecoming with no experience. Your video is by far the best and you helped us get him to homecoming looking 👌 Thanks 😊
Ay bro really appreciate this video. Even tho it's 5 years old it's still helping people today.
I used this video today to take in a pair of shorts that I really love but were too wide in the legs, and BAM!! my shorts turned out amazing. Thank you for publishing this video. Gaining some skills while saving some cash. Ty!!
That was brilliant brother ....I love the old/new slim 60s jazz look
I am loving these videos! Thanks so much! I have a pair of pants that I always just pinch and cuff to give them a tapered albeit baggy look. But I'm definitely going to try this on them soon. The video of the bowling shirt was great too. Awesome fabric choices!
This seems a lot easier than how complicated I made it in my head. Thank you!!!!!
You explained this very well, thank you for taking the time and sharing!
Damn, I wish you would have shown the last steps too. Everything else was a great explanation.

Great video - thanks. If taking in just the inside how do you deal with the crease? The crease will be moved to the inside no?

@nikola zazzoslki lol
Thanks for posting! Very helpful clarification especially regarding how to stitch the crotch region. Some videos have glossed over it, so yours was helpful.
What’s up Norris! Dope channel! I’m headed to LA next week... Do you have any vintage or thrift store recommendations? I want to start altering/tailoring clothes. Also, I am strongly considering joining “The See It Academy”. You and your lady are doing incredible things.
Perfect but I’ve come to expect nothing less from you Mr. Ford 🎉
Super helpful, thanks my guy!
You are great Bro! Such tips!
Top tips. Many thanks!
The results from our local tailor have been expensive disappointments, so I'm going to give it a go myself.
Thank you so much for this vid! I’ve recently got into sewing and this helps so much ✊🏾
Greg Swish appreciate it! You should checkout our online school sewitacademy.com made for true beginners!
I've been looking for a way to taper my work trousers for ages! I'm so short and even when I buy petite tapered trousers, but the time I've take those up they're still too wide! This is a game changer - thank you :)
Super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. Interesting. Blessings
Super informative! Thanks

Good video my brotha what type of sowing machine you recommend for beginners
Brilliant thanks 👍 brother
So helpful!
Thanks! I’m working on a pair of khaki pants right now. They are a little too blousy in the leg. What diameter cuff do you like?
Thanks you made it look so easy, my work pants are so wide they look ridiculous., I am going to try to take them in.
Have viewed several videos on this subject. Like yours the best.. thanks
Thanks for Uploading.
Hey man. Thanks for this video.
Bret Melton you’re welcome and I appreciate your taking time to checkout my content.
Freaking FIRE VIDEO TUTORIAL! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Amazing thank you,
i hate when pants are tight in the knee this helps a lot.
Yakoub Dahmane I’m glad this helps bro!
Any chance I could sew it by hand or is the machine necessary? Great video!
Bless you bro 🙌🏾
Thanks for sharing, I have learned something
Nicely Explained
From one Norris to another -- thanks!
Can you do 1 on jeans? I really like this vid!
Dawg !!!!!! Thank you 😮🎉
I really like the tip about the pins going in through both legs then chalk marking 2nd leg, thank you :) Only thing I would add, is to really press trousers carefully before starting, it makes any alterations much easier when things are flattened.
Jessica Hothersall thanks for the feedback and I really do appreciate the pressing tip!
I don't have a sewing machine, or much hand sewing expirence, so I'm hoping I can do good work.
This is my first time needing to sew something, but the work pants I just bought myself were too wide to look good, so I decided to taper it. Wish me luck.
Thanks!
Thank you
nice! i would be nervous to be pinning myself!
Bro that was amazing since I bought some pants on sale for $7 bucks and the tailor I found charged me $15 per pants and still cut them too short, and I now hate the four pants he messed up!! I will now get a serger and start doing my own pants. Can you use a serger alone without a sewing machine like I saw a woman do?
I've looked at about a dozen videos on how to take in pants and this is the only one that looks easy enough for a non-seamstress like me. Thanks. I hope I don't blow it
Yo how did it go?
Thank you! This is the best step by step tapering video... I would like to see the cutting & surging next time.... or possibly a video showing how to zig zag to protect the stitch... thx again!!! ☮️ from NYC..
randyroller for sure bro! I’ll do a part two with even more details
Great video, Norris. I, personally would also serge the new inside but for those who do not have a serger I would tell them to either use pinking shears or finish with an over-edge stitch if their machine has that built in. Much love to you, buddy.
TheCynedd thank you sir. And yes that’s great advice for those that don’t have sergers! I appreciate you watching.
Why did you take out bottom hem? It won’t work without doing that?
dude thank you!
What sewing machine should I get
I'm guessing you are using a single stitch and should you overcast if you don't have a serger?
Where did you get your chalk from.
😎 Nice one
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! SUCH AN EASY AND CLEAN TUTORIAL!!!
What's the maximum would take in if you're working from the outside leg and how do you deal with top stitching along leg like on chinos running it through a home sewing machine ?
Vim I wouldn’t take in no more than about an inch on the out seam b/c it equals out to be 2 inches after you figure in the front & back. I would always take in from both sides split the amount you take in evenly from the inseam & out-seam. As far as the top stitching I would take it all out if you want to do it right, then take it in and redo the top stitching.
@@NorrisDantaFord I tried tapering a straight fit jeans. I steamed and pinned from the out seam only as inseam has double top stitching. Am taking in approx 2 inch (4inch) from mid thigh to hem. When I put them on, a few inches from ankle to hem it is twisted. Kinda like am wearing them old levis twisted jeans. Why is it doing this ? Is the cut of jeans different ?
Are uou using straight stich?
Just one pass down the leg? Would a second make it more secure? Sorry, very new to sewing things! Great video though man. Clear, well shot and edited.
It's usual to do one pass, using a shortish stitch which is firmer. Then zigzag edges, which stops fraying and reinforces strength at the same time.
Great video. Thank you. Just did my own pair of cords and only ended up with the needle through my finger once 😂
I have a pair of pants that are horribly sized that I bought for my scout uniform. When I hemmed them, I must have taken about 12 inches out of the legs, which seems excessive because I'm 5'10. Anyhow, I don't want to taper them because they're activity pants, but the hem I put in them has left them pretty big at the bottom and they look like bells around my hiking boots. Do you have a suggestion on how I can leave the majority of the legs straight and just taper in the bottom of them around my shoes so they lay better? I need a fair bit of movement in them still but I'm not experienced with alterations enough to know where to start the taper from without sacrificing leg room.
NGinuity hey thanks for watching first and foremost. I would start at the hem and pin exactly how much I would need to take in then continue pinning until I get to where I wouldn’t need it anymore. After that take a ruler and chalk to create a guild for you to use when you take it in. Basically grade out from your original seam line all the way to your new hem. This should definitely do the trick for you.
use a drawstring type thing at the bottom so the pant stays relatively straight but can be adjusted at the ankle
or fade the stitch to the outside almost like a bootcut, if you want them to sit on top of ur shoe
Norris, Thank You... I love this example of tapering pants...a DIY... Now I don't have to purchase more pants . :-)
