  • COMING UP… one of the coolest stories you’ll ever hear about a #1 song… First of all the singer Brad Arnold wrote it when he was 15 in math class in about 10 minutes. Then he begged his local radio station to play it and then it was the most requested song on the station for months… then a few months later they were playing next to the giants of rocks… The story of Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down is so unbelievable you’ll think they made it up! The song went #1 on 3 different charts. Next this band tells the amazing story and I’ll tell you if you aren’t a fan You will be after this interview. Two of the nicest guys in all of music. Here’s the story of song that has sold 5 million copies and been streamed over a billion times!

These guys played a concert for the troops at the Navy Base in Bahrain. There were maybe 300-400 people and they played a bunch of songs, took requests, and hung out with us after they were done. Also had a huge box full of T-shirts they gave away... free. Great dudes.

My Dad was aging when I first happened to see this video. He lifted weights til nearly the end, taking great care in his health and appearance. He fought a long bearded biker in my defence and honour when he was in his late 50’s. My literal Superman, then, and throughout all of my life. When I saw this video, the character WAS my father. Always caring for the underdog, he would stand up for them. Even in his 80’s. Long passed now, tears still flow when I hear Kryptonite. I am proud to say I became HIS Superman. Caring for him until the end. This one’s for you Daddy. Forever. 💙

What I like about 3 Doors Down is that they truly let the music take the wheel. They're not image-driven or self-centered. They're just a straight-up, simple, to-the-point rock band; the first of it's kind since .38 Special, I'd say.

Such a great song. And Brad is such a great guy. My son was in the Army in Sadr City 15 years ago. My son somehow got in touch with Brad and they had communications for a short time. My son was in a combat unit and it meant so much to him to have someone like Brad take time to talk it up with him. I will forever be a fan. Some great guys.

This song is just awesome. After close to 15 years as a cop before I resigned, this song pulled me through the worst parts. Everyone expected you to be a superman, but there are times when the world just turns its back on you, and when you backle under the pressure, it is as if everyone looks down on you in disappointment. This song will always be that corner stone to lean on. Awesome channel love it.

Awesome to see these guys just being normal guys, still in awe of what they have accomplished. I love how he looks whoever is talking straight in the eye and respectfully let's them finish talking before giving insight or an answer. Other "celebrities" could definitely take some etiquette classes from them. Now at 50 I am going to dig a bit more into 3 Door Down, their country boy charm makes me want to hear the deep tracks. GREAT INTERVIEW

I'm old. So, I wasn't tuned into radio at all at the time this song came out. However, this pierced my shield of disdain for all things commercial. I really grooved to it. Now, I'm proud of myself. I had no idea this song wasn't a manufactured band and popular due to a manufactured hype pushed by the corporate tools. Refreshing. I love history. You will never understand anything unless you understand context. You will understand nothing unless you understand history.

I'm old too, but I still have my ear out for new music that's good. I hate sounding like an old fart, but the new music on the charts today rarely moves me. I do still find good new music, it just isn't found in the top 40 these days.
"Kryptonite" certainly caught my attention when it came out, even though 2000 was a particularly rough time; my mom died and I was working 2 jobs and getting my house ready to sell so I could move 1500 miles away before my stalker got out of prison in 2001.
Driving to work was the only time I got to enjoy listening to music, and this always caused me to crank the volume to feel that awesome drum beat.
Like the songwriter, I was the youngest kid in my family and my two sisters were old enough to be my moms. One sister went off to college when I was five and she put all her Beatles 45s in the trash, and I quickly retrieved them. I had a turntable/speakers in a suitcase box that I played children's records on, but those Beatle records found a new home there. I also got my older brother's 45s when he got tired of them. When I was 10, I bought my first record with my lunch allowance, a song I loved so much I skipped lunch at school to save money to buy the single. It was Don McLean's "American Pie".
When I was 11, my big Christmas gift was a Montgomery Ward stereo component system, it was AM/FM, played 8-tracks, and had a separate Garrard turntable and some decent speakers. I was so happy, I cried! Both of my parents loved music, and dad was a radio/microwave engineer. He also gave me a set of headphones that were professional quality, huge heavy things that gave me my own private world to enjoy music. I had to lie down to listen to those things, so heavy my neck hurt otherwise!
I got my first job at 15, and almost all my earnings went to buying records.
This is why I love this channel so much, and feel kinship with Adam, The Professor. Like him, music has always been a huge part of my life, and always will be until I die.
If I have a funeral, I want to go out to this Harry Nilsson song! 😁

One of those songs that was meant to be. Not only have I not tired of it, I still get excited when I hear the intro starting. Had no idea it was written this way and the story behind them. Thanks again

I can truly say I had never heard this song till after 911, because I never cared for a lot of the music after grunge started. But I saw the video honoring our Military with this song. After that it became one of my favorite songs. Also to listen to more of their songs.

Chess King reference FTW. I remember that song being ginormous. Never knew much about the band - those guys seem amazingly humble and decent. Another good one, Adam.

I always liked the song Kryptonite, but there are many other songs from 3 Doors Down, that I like even more. I didn’t know much about the band before, but I always got the impression that Brad was one of the good guys in rock your interview with them not only affirmed that, but he seems even more relatable than I would’ve pictured him. Great interview. I really enjoyed listening to the story of how everything fell into place for them.

3 Doors Down - Always loved hearing every song on the radio and I knew all the members of the #3 cover band in my state at that time period and they played at least a few 3 Doors songs every gig. I could never get tired of them.

Wow. What a fun to watch interview. Their faces when they acknowledge their first tour would be as an opening act for Creed, when Creed was at their Prime, it shows how down to earth these guys are. Like Bon Jovi did, sometimes you have to ask the guy who play the songs to give you a space. I'm glad he did it!
By the way, nice T-shirt, as always!
