Well, it does mention Leonid Desyatnikov who blended the form of Vivaldi's "Four Sseason" with Piazzolla themes and motifs. The arrangement is brilliant and SO pleasing. The performance is just wonderful. I felt I was in Argentina. Love it!
really? no credits for anyone other than the soloist and the composer. common curtis.. thought you were a standup institution. credit the ensemble members, stage crew, and production team please.
I have to admit I don't know this piece of music. I am listening to it for the third time, first played by SoYoung Yoon, second by Clara JuMi Kang, now by Elissa Lee Koljonen. The sequence shown here is Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. However, the quotation of Vivaldi in the "first season" here at 1:27 is definitely Vivaldi's Winter. Why is it? Ah! Is it because Vivaldi's winter is summer in Argentina? It is still not right. Vivaldi's winter, with its accompanying sonnet, describe as: Aggiacciato tremar trà nevi algenti To tremble from cold in the icy snow, Al Severo Spirar d' orrido Vento, Correr battendo i piedi ogni momento; E pel Soverchio gel batter i denti; In the harsh breath of a horrid wind; To run, stamping one's feet every moment, Our teeth chattering in the extreme cold. Summer in Buenos Aires, though it is winter in Venice, should not be teeth chattering cold." But in his second quotation, he did use Vivaldi's Summer. Similarly in this Winter, Piazzolla uses quotations of Vivaldi's Summer. must be for the same reason. But in the second quotation in his Winter, he did use Vavaldi's winter too.
Not Piazzolla quoted, but the violinist quoted. If you listen to the original Piazzolla composition, there is no Vivaldi at all. It seems the violinist interpretes as they like
I'm astonished! I wish someday I can enjoy this masterpiece in real live concert. Is there anyone who can tell me about the sequence? I guess the video is little bit different compared to original four seasons
I played Summer and Winter 2 days ago in Jersey Channel Islands. I believe it's Piazzolla's take on the Four Seasons adding in his tango style and interesting rhythms and harmonies. One thing I learnt is that he references Vivaldi's Summer in his Winter and vice versa as he lives in the Southern hemisphere in Argentina so winter in Europe is hot in Buenos Aires as seasons reverse below the equator. Hope this helps.
From WIkipedia: In 1996-1998, the Russian composer Leonid Desyatnikov made a new arrangement of the above four pieces with more obvious link between Vivaldi and Piazzolla, by converting each of pieces into three-section pieces, and re-arranging for solo violin and string orchestra. In each piece he included several quotations from original Vivaldi's work but due to seasons being inverted between northern and southern hemispheres, thus, for example, Verano Porteño had added elements of L'inverno (Winter) of Vivaldi.
This is absolutely brilliant. Piazzolla must be the most overlooked genius in modern music

@jimjennings7623, I heard this live last night for the first time, and I also heard pacchabels' cannon in D major, right after the Vivaldi section
What an amazing performance. I'm performing this on Saturday with the Bakersfield Symphony. We're slowly coming back!

Great performance! Who's the bass player? List all of the personnel, please
His name Tim Dilenschneider. He play in bass section of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra now.
COOL
Bravo
Can someone tell me what's happening harmonically at 2:42?
We're initially in a minor, and there's a dominant ninth chord, which resolves itself on a "minorized" 6th degree (so, in f minor).
Koljonen shreds!
Isn't the 3rd one Winter? Isn't the last one Spring?
Yes. They are wrong there. The first is not summer
South hemespheric times, starts in fall not in spring
@@BazzTriton , Los nombres se corresponden con las composiciooes de Piazzolla, están bien.
Yup idk the first sounded like winter the second like spring the third one like summer and the 4th like Autumn!
