An easy solution to the crumb problem is to cover the styrofoam (possibly with duck tape, painters tape, aluminum foil, Modge Podge or maybe a layer of Elmer’s glue or glue fabric onto it?) There are probably a lot of others but those are off the top of my head. Then you can use the packing tape to still attach the styrofoam to your machine. I think this is a fantastic idea. Put on your creative thinking hat.🎩 ❤
This is a great idea. I helps keep the fabric set measured away from the needle where you can guide it. Also, might I add that if you coat the foam with mod-podge, it will help keep it in place, and from shedding. For those who are objecting to this idea, get over yourselves. Did YOU come up with it? No. that's the only reason you're objecting.
They make specific tools to keep your fabric in place and they probably don’t cost any more than the price of the foam and you don’t have to go through all of the mess to get the same results.
Just came across your video 😊 this is like a seen guide don’t you think 🤔 and I was wondering a couple of things 🤔 1st do you need a certain size ball or will any size do? 2nd how did you get the ball edges so smooth? what did you use please? and 3rd what if you want to make the seam closer to the edge of the fabric? I would be very happy if you could answer my questions 😁 oh I’ve also subscribed 😁 thanks for sharing this with us 👍🏻 from Bev in the UK 🇬🇧 xx
The debris from the Styrofoam may get into your machine and cause damage. You will end up spending $200 or more getting your machine serviced and/or repaired.
How come the polystyrene does not move while you are sewing ? How did you get the edges of the polystyrene so neat and "clean" so that there were no "crumbs" floating around".
If you watch the video carefully, it doesn't get into the machine as it's used on the OUTSIDE not near where it would get shredded. You can also coat the styrofoam, with mod-podge which will prevent it from shredding. It's all logic... but only if you have any!
I think I’d rather buy a seam guide them mess with the work that goes into making a styrofoam guide. For one it’ll dull your pins and a little bit of the styrofoam will get in the machine mechanics. The thought process is great though.
@@Aeronwen813 No, the blade did not break in the video but that was a box cutter being used. Those blades are designed to snap off when the blade gets dull and only a portion of the entire length is to be used, not the entire section as seen in this video.
If you want the fabric to stay aligned, this trick isn't working. What samples you show are poorly aligned & shift even in the small sample used--if this trick is meant to help with alignment, it's not working! (Also this looked better when pins were inserted into corrugated cardboard as shown on another channel).
One can also place a finger at the back of the foot to make the same gathers. There is no need to spend money on a ball of foam or potentially cut your finger when slicing it. I would not do it.
Good thing there wasn't any talking. I had to MUTE the "music" to get rid of that. There is no reason to risk styrofoam crumbs in the machine. Bad music. Bad sewing trick. Don't do that.

As a matter of fact, I thing this idea is great. Sewing tools are expensive. She has just created something useful and practical. 😊😊😊
Might look good, but she didn't tell about how to clean the foam out of machine. No way would I use foam on my machine. I can't afford a new machine!
I watched to whole thing to see the foam inserted into the machine. It was stuck on the bed. You need to look up the words "insert" and "into"

Not to bad of an idea. I honest would use a clear tape around the Styrofoam to avoid crumbs.
The debris from the Styrofoam may get into your machine and cause damage. You will end up spending $200 or more getting your machine serviced and/or repaired.
Your title is false...you did not insert Styrofoam inside your machine!
Thank you for your comment! I suggest you watch my video again! I'm sure you'll find everything you couldn't find now!

I put together thick foam plastic specially, with small parts attached) But it doesn’t move because the tape is holding it in place
I can clearly see clear toe holding the styrofoam down. You could also face the front with clear tape.

The idea seems practical but I would feel happier if the styrofoam shape were to be covered to prevent bits coming away into the sewing machine.🤗🦘🦘🦘
wow! gamechanger for sure!
Thank you for your reply! I look forward to seeing you again on my channel!❤️
No way I am using polstyrene foam near my Sewing Machine. Who wants that kind of mess getting into their machine?

So the tips were great but it was so slow i almost did finish watching.
Hello dear viewer! Thank you for your comment❤️✨✌️I will try to make the content more dynamic
Hacking up a piece of styrofoam with a blade that breaks apart is a bit scary. Be careful what you advise others to do.
Did the blade break or just the polystyrene.? It the blade didn't seem to break when I rewound and watched a second time.

Who wants to go through all that just to sew elastic to a piece of fabric.
Here are a few ideas for what you can use foam for )
ME. I happen to appreciate the logic in this! but apparently some of you don't even know what that is.
