Incredible movements for building a strong core and developing strong abs
Pay close attention to the mechanics & the cues Sal shares
Everyone wants a six pack but almost NOBODY does their ab exercises correctly...
Stability Ball Crunches (THE RIGHT WAY)
- Lock your hips into place
- Push your hips up
- Squeeze your gluten
- Keep your hips up the entire time
- Extend & Crunch (focusing on contraction)
- Full extension
- Squeeze at the top
- Different hand position changes difficulty of the exercise
Active Plank
- Tuck your tailbone
- Round your lower back
- Squeeze your core
- Shortening abs forcing them to do more of the movement
- Reducing hip flexor activation
DO THESE THE RIGHT WAY & YOU WILL SEE FAR BETTER RESULTS

ab workout obliques strength abdominal muscle
I was taking online classes from 9 - 5 so I was having to sit for long periods at a time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxEhgucmXpcAGYh8fatGFEnOK2V97VIwhG After the first day in a regular table chair, I thought about an exercise ball and ordered one that night. It came the next day! My hips, legs, back and butt couldn't have been happier! I'm almost 5'11" and I ordered the largest size and it was perfect for me. I also have RLS (restless legs) and this helped so much.Pumping it up was a little challenging and definitely gives you a good arm workout, (I'm a 62 yo woman) but it's very doable. Getting the tape centered with the hole to inflate it and then getting the pin back in was also a little tricky. But I love my new "chair" and I love the torquiose color. Hopefully it will also get used for exercise. 😁
I switched up how I do crunches on the exercise ball after watching and fried my abs after only about half the reps. I've been a hip-flexor/sit-up guy for years apparently. Thanks for the insight guys!
I'm a 58 year old man. Recently I've started to experience knee pains and the doctor checked and said its just normal age related wear and tear. Just exercise have glucosamine supplements & you should be good to go.
So, what in your opinion are the best knee exercises for this condition.
Did this today. Felt a difference right away! Thank you
Kayla E Glad it helped.
I was wondering for the way you show the plank, tucking the hips in, does that also protect the low back?
Excellent instruction! I feel it now!! Yes!!! I stopped doing the crunches on the Physio ball bc I wasn’t getting anything out of it... now... I feel it!! Thank you so much! Same with the plank wow! I appreciate u sharing ur knowledge!!
No 🧢 I did 3 sets for 10, doms for 3 days 😂 excited to get back to these when I recover.
Do the crunches on physioball that you’re showing work the hip flexors at all?Im looking for lower ab exercises that don’t work hip flexors…
This is very important clip. Thanks
Very helpful tips! Thank you
Love your podcast! So glad to find you guys this video is extremely helpful
What is the best exercises for your obliques?
I never in my life felt so much action in my abs until this
Is there a difference if you lowered your body, while doing the plank?
Yes you're closer to the ground and nearer to mother earth.
THANK YOU SAL!! Knowing this differences if fabulous!!
Oh my gosh, that plank was night and day different - harder. Thank you!
5:30 I use my toes to tip forward/backwards to get even more tension and make it more dynamic(less boring)
Really felt the difference straight away when I applied your advice regarding the plank! thanks Sal!
When you showed the plank
I was thinking ouch my back is going to be in a lot of pain with so much arch
What do I need to train if I get stiff in the lower back / upper butt? Is it abs or glutes I should focus on?
I have the same question.
Thanks guy's
Excellent points 👍
Thanks for the tips
Hi,
Nice explanations.
For the active plank. Is it an anterior pelvic tilt which you are recommending?
Thanks,
Pankaj.
Intresting i will try in this way to do a plank
Adam ,Sal.. do you recommend Mike Mentzer's heavy duty kinda style training for everyone or do you guys recommend normal volume approach of training..please help
Amazing stuff guys! this is gold and I love listening to your guys podcast. Didn't know you guys had a youtube channel as well - love it. keep up the good work!!

Could u please help me with some exercises for fibromyalgia?
I really like 👍 you video thank you it is short and clear explanation
Excellent narration.
Thank you! (Also, love the Thrive Market shirt!) :)
The amount of compressive force on the spine with the Swiss ball crunch is just wear and tear on the discs. Especially going into extension. Give Stuart McGill a read. Fascinating stuff on the back especially to avoid injury.
Basing an opinion on the flawed studies of Stu McGill is not wise.
My opinion is not solely based on his studies but from personal experience with a back injury and how excessive flexion and extension of the spine is a no-no. Of course, it's not the case for everyone, it is case by case. There are NBA and NFL athletes with bulged discs with no symptoms and there are 19-year-olds with backs that are in worse shape than 50-year-old WWE vets. There is always the debate of correlation vs. causation. I'll stand behind there being better exercises for the abs to mitigate injury. Plus as we all know swiss ball crunches won't give you a strong core.
Floating Gods Disagree. I think if ANY movement can be done with good control, mobility and tension then it’s not bad.
Mind Pump TV we’ll have to agree to disagree. When programming exercises I think the health and longevity of the trainee should be considered. Gymnasts perform amazing movements with good control, mobility and tension however their careers are very short and they deal with a list of problems for the rest of their lives. Exercises can feel great in the moment but depending on the person and the execution there is no say for what can occur down the road. In my option and my choice I would pick safer exercises that yield similar results.
@@floatingodds why is that i mean about the gymnasts?
great as always
Can you explain how the hip flexors are working during the plank since the hips are not flexing?
gregkelland as stabilizers
every time I watch any of your videos my reaction is either (slaps surface) " fucking finally! thank God I'm not the only one doing something about this" or (explosion) 😮 "that makes so much seeeense. thank you".
one day you guys will get super famous and everyone will feel like a fucking idiot and it's going to be awesome :)
Very good I tried it and you’re right because I never felt the reaction in my ass like that when I did it the correct way
Gonna switch up
So I should.buy that ball? Lol
Wow
Too much talking, as the Excercise starts at 2:31.

I am an above shoulder amputee , proper positioning is what I need , one shoulder man closing in on 60.

Am I the only one who thinks adam looks lyk Jason momoa...... 🤔
Yes you are....
Lol if he grew his hair out I totally see that
These exercises do not give you abs so why do them in the first place
I agree Alex, the plank is the stupidest thing I have ever seen, does not even work your abs in the first place. These guys on mind pump, need to lift up their t- shirts and show us their abs. If they can't show us their abs, then they have no room to talk about ab training.
You should NOT round your upper back on a plank, it should be flat.
U even lift BRAHH?
Really difficult to listen to this guy after the CRAYATINE incident!
Explain....
Nothing wrong with the science. He just doesn't know how to say crEatine
