      Thank ewe! If you’re sensitive to the itch factor, I recommend washing the wool clothing with wool wash and conditioning with something like Unicorn Beyond Soft. That’s a fabric softener that’s meant for wool. Sometimes wool clothing can feel a little itchy straight out of the package, but feels better after the first wash. 🌺 Heidi

    just by chance as I'm watching your very educational talk. I'm soaking my summer weight, short sleeve, wool, with buttons and collar shirt in a lanolin bath. I wore this shirt for 25 years as a wilderness outfitter and it looks like new. The secret to wool is to get the wool for the job you will use it for.

    I am from Ontario Canada and before we took our current trip to Panama(came June 21 and heading home on Nov 22) I watched your videos and the suggestion about merino wool in your packing video. I couldn’t get over how hard it was the source in Ontario. Granted a lot of stores were closed due to the lockdown, but even trying to find merino wool online was a difficulty. Had to do this trip without it. I am regretting not picking it up!

      Sorry you weren't able to find Merino wool clothes before your trip. Unbound Merino is actually located in Ontario Canada. Currently they only offer men's clothing, but they are planning to add a women's line soon. I'm looking forward to that! I know shipping to Canada from the USA can be quite expensive, so it is nice if you can find local brands. How are you liking Panama? 🌺Heidi

    • @aidannewton
      @aidannewton 3 года назад

      @@KenshoQuest that’s great to know. We will keep that in mind for when we get back. I checked out ibex and they unfortunately do not ship to Canada at this point. I am going to try to figure out how to get them to ship to a Miami address and have it flown here to panama. We are liking panama, but after watching all of your videos we are really looking forward to trying out Malaysia before making our decision on where we might want to settle for a longer period. Your videos have helped us a lot with our thinking process. Panama depending on the area doesn’t have the best or most affordable schooling for children. If you want really good international schools for children your really limited to Panama City area and also a high price tag per month. We are definitely keeping an open mind. I can’t complain about the climate or the people, everyone here is great. So far we haven’t made big purchases as we are staying at fully furnished AirBNB and we followed your advice about staying longer and asking for a discount and surprise surprise it works! I have heard many stories about people making big purchases here and getting “gringo” pricing. As a whole I think we really enjoy panama as a vacation location, and if we were to stay closer to the city area maybe a condo purchase that we can use when we come and AirBNB when we aren’t here. But that is much much further down the line. I think bang for buck is in south east Asia right now.

    I am a merino addict since 2015, when I first tried merino clothes on a trip to Mount Kenya. Since then... Merino is my love, passion and everyday companion. Because I wear merino everyday... from work to picnics, from social events, concerts,.. to school... In 7 years I managed to completely change my wardrobe with merinos. In October 2021 I managed to find great fabric for trausers, shorts and legins. And...This is why I decided to launch my own brand in few weeks. Why? I think people should know more about how merino helps them with their health. It is great for travelling, for sport,... but why wear something that is best for my body, only when I do sport or travelling? Why not everyday, every hour, every minute,... when I am at work, hiking or sleeping? Merino is life changer.

    Very surprised especially it being used in hot countries. Does the same apply to cashmere?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 года назад +1

      Hi, this is an excellent question! We are not experts in cashmere but here a couple of items to take into consideration. Cashmere, which comes from the cashmere goat is much softer than merino and therefore also much less durable. Base on this alone I do not think it would be a good candidate for everyday wear. Also, it doesn't have the breathable qualities of merino so it will be very warm. So I think it's great for cold weather only.

    Informative video. I have a few merino shirt and t-shirt, but all my t-shirt have holes after two months of use even thought I wore it with care. What’s your take on durability of these?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  2 года назад +1

      I'm sorry that happened. George has been wearing his Unbound Merino wool shirts for about 3 years. There are a couple small holes, but they aren't very noticeable.
      I'm careful when washing our wool. I do a wool only load. It there is anything with zippers or hooks, I place that item in a delicates bag, so it won't snag other items.
      We've been very happy with the quality of Unbound wool! I'm planning to try their women's clothing soon. 🌺 Heidi

    Hi Heidi, have you tried wool/silk blends? Or wool/silk/cotton? What would you recommend for hot dry weather with maximal exposure to sun? For kiddos especially. Thanks in advance!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Год назад +1

      Hi! I have one wool/silk blend tank top by Nui Organics. For some reason it tends to smell bad when it dries. I don't like it as much as 100% wool, but I don't know if that is normal for wool/silk blends. I've been wanting to try 100% silk for hot weather, but haven't had the opportunity yet. I'm still a fan of 100% wool for all weather. Sorry I can't be more help. 🌺 Heidi

      George has been wearing Unbound Merino wool shirts for the past three years. They have held up well. A couple small holes and some fading, but overall they still look good. The fading is probably from drying them in direct sunlight. Here's our referral link, if you want to take a look: kenshoquest.com/unbound-merino

    I am also a great fan of merino wool. Great info video however, I heard you make a comment that the clothing should be 100% merino wool. You also did a shout out to Unbound Merino, but the products that I have looked at with Unbound are not 100% merino wool but a blend.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  4 месяца назад

      It depends upon the product. The Unbound Merino tee shirts we like are 100% Merino wool (not the white color, though). Many of their other current products are blends. My Unbound dress is blended with Nylon, but it’s held up really well for 2 years and no stink problems. 🌸 Heidi

    Do they make a sun shirt but made out of wool? Like a button down sunshirt but wool?
    I am going to SE Asia for all of next year basically and I would love to wear a short sleeve wool Tshirt but what about sun protection? It seems weird to wear a wool Tshirt, then another longsleeve wool in Thailand 😫
    What would you recommend?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Год назад

      Hi! I personally wear a long sleeve wool tee shirt (thin jersey material) or a very thin cardigan. For what you’re describing, you might want to look for a woven wool button down shirt. It might be marketed as for men, from somewhere like Wool&Prince. Let me know if you figure something out! 🌺 Heidi

    Re the price, it's not like they're price gouging either. I've priced merino wool Jersey knits and they're all $50-60 a yard, and it takes 2-3 yards to make a dress or pants. So I guess the only way you could get better pricing would be to luck into a thrift find or start a flock and invest in a spinning wheel and loom. But hey, you could get free lawn care, sheeps milk, and even meat and chamois leather when you have to cull the flock... But it may cut down on your travel time, lol!

    Can merino wool be ironed?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  Год назад

      There are many types of fabric made from Merino wool. A woven wool fabric used for a dress shirt might be okay to iron. Check the care label! For our Merino wool jersey items we normally just hang them up and hope the wrinkle come out.

      @@KenshoQuest Thanks for the quick response! I have unbound merino tshirts, and I follow the care instructions but wether I roll them or fold them, I still get lots of wrinkles, so I was just wondering if anyone had experience ironing merino tshirts, but I will hang them to dry and see if that helps. Thanks!

    Interesting vid...I clicked on the link below and was surprised to find a T-shirt for $75. Not cheap. Have you ever dried your wool in a dryer? They say you can...? You say not to, but is that from experience?
    I usually only bring cotton while traveling. I haven't traveled for over 18 mos and made two mistakes on my trip to Kauai 2 weeks ago...wore the polyester hiking pants...big mistake on vinyl or leather airline seats. The 2nd mistake was not to preload Prime Videos on my tablet. My flights inflight entertainment was down and there was no entertainment! It's been too long since I've traveled!
    Check out 30 and a wake up on youtube. He is in Hawaii and will be heading to Thailand in 48 hours...if he can get his COE by then. Cutting it close!

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 года назад

      Hi! Yes, Merino wool clothing is pricey, as the fiber itself is expensive. For Unbound Merino the care instructions are to wash on normal to cool temperature and lay flat to dry. No tumble dryer. We're never put our wool in the dryer, that I can recall... Most wool with shrink/felt if put in a tumble dryer with heat. Yes, I noticed that 30 and a Wake Up has been here on Oahu. Too bad we probably missed him. Take care 🌺Heidi
