Related to point 7, it's also important that you don't forget your MSK basics. I did my resp placement in post surgery and having those assessment skills as to whether it's even safe for a patient to mobilise was crucial. In a hospital setting you have a few more tools to assess this, eg daily blood potassium results, twice or more daily BP, HR. Some patients really require pulling their activity level all the way back to bed based exercise, even basic sit to stands can be exhausting for them.

Respiratory Therapist from Kentucky USA. I would recommend the Kettering Review for Respiratory Therapist exams , this course helps alot of Respiratory Therapist students to pass their exams. Good luck ... God bless and thanks for all you do for others . :)

I'm just over halfway in my studies. I've had 3 placements so far and I definitely learnt the most and enjoyed resp the most. For me there were many times where I would teach positions of ease, or ACBT, and there would be almost instant feedback from the patient showing improvement. Compared to MSK where you might only see a patient once every 4-6 weeks I found I needed that proof that what I was doing was working, seeing a patient every day instead of once gave me that confidence that what I was doing was working.
It's still too early for me to decide 100% on a specialty, I'm gonna look for a band 5 rotational post when I graduate. But as I said before it's been my favourite so far.
