Bring back the dislike counter. They allow scams, whatsapp hacks, and bullying yet cant bring the dislike feature to help identify videos that arent useful or misleading.
Simple browser Add Ons will show you # of dislikes plus a lot of other tweaks to make RUclips closer to the experience you want.
@@Splucked That's not the point. Not everyone is going to know about it or use it. It's a function that should be enabled by RUclips itself, we shouldn't have to workaround it. By hiding the dislike counter, they've taken away our freedom to vote. Likes are meaningless without dislikes.
Most woketard videos had more dislikes than likes. They can't allow that to be publicly visible.
You are both correct.
@@SpluckedYea but it’s not the original.
3 steps to improve RUclips:
- bring back the dislike counter
- create mechanism to punish bad actors for malicious copyright claims
- allow users more control of the “Topics” on recommendations feed
and make shorts optional
While I agree on two of the steps, the second step could backfire easily wutg bad actors who easily twist the fact and claim the copyright theirs to begin with. I have seen these happen a lot in real life and the "good actors" lost the fight.
Shorts are optional. Press the X on the app and theyll disapear for 30days

As a elder millennial I hate shorts (and TikTok), more specifically RUclips's obsession with putting them in my subscription feed when I never watch them. I want substance.
Good suggestion...it should be Optional
Shorts really need to be optional, I find myself unironically watching them and I HATE THEM but at night instead of being able to watch full videos I want to watch, it shoves shorts into my face and ofc Im tired so I don't really click off of them cause my subconcious takes over.

As many others have already stated, RUclips has done MANY moronic things. The removal of the dislike counter as well as making it VERY hard for creators to make content while dealing with guidelines has gone from stupid to idiotic. And let's not forget about their Black- and Whitelist where some creators get special treatment. I doubt this new CEO will change anything.

TL:DR
To improve RUclips (imo):
- Bring back showing the amount of dislikes.
- Allow us to hide community posts in our subscription feed as I have seen quite a few RUclipsrs use it as a vehicle to essentially spam
- Give us the option to stop autoplay on playlists. Ridiculous how we don't have that. I use playlist to pick out videos to watch from a specific topic, not to watch all of them.
- bring back hiding comments in the comment section. They had this feature for a minute then took it off.
- For RUclips premium members such as myself, have a feature that allows us to skip sponsorship ads. I am sorry but the reason why I have RUclips premium is because I DON'T want to see ads. For people who don't have premiums, they get enough ads to watch, then on top of that have to watch a 1-2 minute sponsorship. Sure, we can fast forward, but we could be missing quite of bit of content after the sponsorship.
- Fine tune the recommendations to be better, like recommending videos based on topics and not channels. I may have an interest in a topic, and have watched many RUclips videos from different content creators to research, but then my recommendations would just spam me with recommendations for one content creator who I had no interest watching beside what they talked about in a specific topic I was searching up.
Now if I watch multiple videos by them, THEN that's an indication that I may enjoy what their content on their channel as a whole.
- If I have to keep deleting specific recommended videos from my recommendation, then that is an indication that I am NOT interested in those videos. STOP RECOMMENDING THEM. Example: I love cartoons, but I do NOT like Family Guy and I don't watch it. Same thing with the Simpons. Don't hate the Simpsons, but I don't watch them. Every time I come on, everyday I am giving recommended videos that have clips of these shows, and this has been happening for at least a year. I don't understand. Algorithm needs to be fine tuned to noticing patterns.
That it because my comments is too long. 😂
First task for the new CEO should be to solve the comment section scam/spam problem, and then harden the account security for creators
more like destroy RUclips forever
I was there at the beginning of RUclips. It was glorious. Even in it's early 480p days it was something to behold because you knew the videos on your front page were the most viewed, not the most promoted.
Agreed. And you had so much more control how to view. So much worse now.
You can see the daily trending videos still. It's not the same as before because the audience has changed.
Meh, I was there too, no offense but I think you are using nostalgia goggles. The front page was kind of crappy, barely any videos fit in there to be recommended at all. I don't think YT is better or worse now, it's just different. I agree that some crappy decisions have been made, but honestly I think YT right now is glorious, we just don't appreciate it because we take it for granted.
@@doingtime20 That page used to be a longer list of useful videos. Now the recos are bigger more cartoonish with less intro information.
@@doingtime20 "Crappy" is subjective. My point wasn't about the quality. My point was about the administrators not putting their thumb in the scale. The videos that actually got the most views made it to the front page. Now the videos THEY want you to see makes it there. So you will see the same damn RUclipsrs over and over because they have either the right ideology or the right connections.
Appreciate your reports. Noticed you omitted the whole “shadow ban” issue. Probably should be included since it hurt their brand and spawned competitors.

An idea to improve things massively.
They can introduce a button that can be used by the user to quantify their negativity for a given video.
This way when someone is searching for something important, they can quickly identify false or clickbait videos and save valuable time. After all the task of a search engine is to easily present the user with relevant information and RUclips is the second highest used search engine.
At the beginning of RUclips users could rate videos in a scale of one to five stars.
I would suggest we can it "the dislike button" 😉
Been here since the google video days, loved the long format content back then, still love it today. Can't imagine my life without youtube and quality channels like yours 💙
I for one believe the leadership at RUclips have made a long and ongoing, awful sequence of decisions for the platform at the cost of both viewers and creators.. but especially creators. The way RUclips has and continues to treat their creators is quite frankly despicable. Even creators of factual documentaries such as those covering history are constantly at risk. I could go on and on but the last point I'll make is one that I'm sure most everyone is aware of but needs to be repeated. RUclips's failure to clearly state their rules and policies on paper (virtual or otherwise) is so utterly frustrating and perplexing as to cause any logical minded person's head to explode. Obviously this is done for the purposes of allowing them to selectively apply any rule, to anyone, at any time, for any reason.. So no... I don't think the leadership at Google has been some beacon of great leadership and effective moderation. The reason they are the only show in town is because they are a monopoly who has a completely captive audience whom competitors have little to no chance of overcoming. I genuinely despise what RUclips has become and that is directly a result of how it has been run by the top leadership. These people should not be praised.
Yt is like a bad bf/gf to most of it's content creators. They keep their content creators destabilized and roped in with trying to impress YT, or at least trying to not incite YT contempt/ire. RUclips's withholding or outright stealing the profit of their content creators, their refusal to lay down and enforce the rules consistently, as well as their random destruction of what is essentially performance art (videos) hijacks content creator's brains in a way and makes them give up everything, work 24/7 for little to no pay, and invest everything they have just to try and please YT and keep their work from being destroyed. In this way, yt can monetize a content creator's work, keep them enslaved, but never actually pay them. Oh, I'm sure they have a few content creators that are like that person at the fair who is selected to "win" a big prize teddy bear and walk around with it, with the intent of enticing people to go play the games at the game booths, but overall, being a youtuber is not worth the expense in time, money, and self esteem from never being able to do it right.

Sure, TikTok is their main competitor, but I wouldn't call TikTok to be in the same league still
TikTok serves very low quality (as in bitstream), very short videos. Which is much easier than to upload, process and stream millions of hours of 4K videos simultaneously, 24/7. Nobody would be able to do this, maybe with the exception of Microsoft or Amazon if they would sink half their net worth into it.
@@davidbelecci6970 Yeah
Tik Tok is Chinese CCP sponsored as useful to their Communist government (as are all businesses in communist China) so they had unlimited money to ensure their rise to dominance.
TikTok is also effectively designed to bring out the worst in people.
It's the epitome of rot-media, it's not even in the same ballpark as RUclips.
As for RUclips, the censorship, the becoming more and more algorithmically driven, the retroactive rule changes... If a government were doing it, we'd be screaming dystopian propaganda...
Short-Form video content isn't a "fad", but it's something that will always remain small. There's a reason only teenagers really watch it.
Tik-tok has to copy youtube in a lot of ways to remain relevant, and I think youtube is only hurting their brand chasing it. Tik-tok is only really popular on smart phones while youtube can span every device. Tiktok also has to deal with the US government.
RUclips still doesn't have competitors, but if they keep screwing up, they will have them. There are alternative youtube clones appearing that actually will take all your youtube content and upload it themselves to your new channel free of charge.
I would argue that YT's massive overreaction to advertiser apprehension was an unmitigated disaster. They alienated their content creators, leaving them to plead for survival with fans for direct support via Patreon. It's been rough sailing ever since, with one silly decision after another, confusing, vague and arbitrary guidelines, and nebulous internal processes. YT lost its fresh startup creativity to dull-witted, corporate thinking long ago. I see more of the same with another suite like Neal Mohan (as evidenced by his erratic pivoting to trends and technical buzzwords).
People already weren't "a fan" of ads before - and whether advertisers actually were the ones pushing this agenda, or just a scapegoat by google admin - the result is they've destroyed their value and reputation because people now despise them even more.
Wise assessment.

RUclips needs to create a separate shorts app (with a different name/brand)
Shorts/Vertical videos is a totally different category and I believe is a mistake trying to mix them up on the same platform with Long/Horizontal videos.

I don't mind shorts but they should give options to hide it
It wouldn't take off enough as a separate website.
As much as I hate vertical videos, and the effects of tiktok, sadly they've overtaken traditional videos in popularity, and as tiktok is under the control of an evil dictator who wants to control everybody's lives and completely take away freedom, we need any competition we can.
If they can fix the comments section issues (more specifically the spam and scam bots) , I think both creators and viewers would consider that a win. And of course improve the whole copyright strike system.
Comments are also being removed and shadow banned. If you don't check with a second account or are paying attention you won't notice it
This is the guy responsible for the intrusive and disrespectful ad policy now
The thing is, YT is so large and established as a platform that they don’t actually need to be the ones to innovate past a certain degree, sure they can get caught napping but they can easily sit back and let the world revolve a bit without feeling too much pressure to stir things up, simple because there is no real competition in their space, they own this part of the internet. They’re so big that even someone comes out of no where with something that does directly compete with YT, they can quite easily pivot and make the necessary changes.

I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords and remind them that, as a well respected personality, could be valuable in rounding up other humans to toil in the Tensor core mines.
@@nicholasvinen Agreed dude. All hail the AI overlords!
The feature I miss the most is the "videos being watched right now" bar on the homepage. No algorithms, no marketing pushes. Just random videos from all walks of life on the belly of the internet
Most important is fix the algorithm for the feed. RUclips has billions of videos but only a handful show up in my feed over and over . Even giving me videos I've watched several times already instead of more of the billions of videos that I haven't seen. This IS its biggest problem.
The best thing to come out of RUclips in recent years are video journal channels like this and a handful of animation and gaming channels. The apocalypse is the worse, especially now with some videos borderline having an ad put in every 3 minutes. The copyright issues annoy me to no end with how abused it is.
This is what is the most interesting thing about taking a chance on hiring someone for a job that has his own style and approach to managing a team. You cannot predict how it is going to work out. It could be incredibly innovative and still not connect with viewers and not work out at all. Luck plays a part in everything and it might just be Google's lucky day to have hired him for the job. I predict he will be a welcome boost for RUclips and take this incredible service to new levels of prosperity.
@@wingit7335 GGGGGGGGGGGGGGreat to hear from you. It is impossible to predict the future and there are so many moving parts in almost everything we do. RUclips is a mega-project and the new guy will do his best and we'll see what happens...

I think integrating AI onto a creative platform will be a mistake. The website is going to be swamped with even more weird, brainless content-mill shlock.
Also, you can't copyright AI-generated stuff so anything someone creates can be reposted by hundreds of others and there's no recourse. Sounds like spam hell.
Exactly what I've been thinking since I first started hearing about AI. Well said.
I’m wondering how much the “integration part” matters. AI assisted crap is probably going to be a problem for any service or platform, regardless of whether it is integrated or not. But I definitely do worry about “AI spam” in general.
RUclips is just becoming TV.
RUclips was way better pre-monetisation.
And how do you think that youtube can survive without ads?
@@couch9416 i mean monetisation for comtent creators.
I cannot get over the fact that there is little to no possibility for uses to block toxic channels and toxic users. How can making the environment more friendly for us hurt their business?
No mention of the ever-increasing censorship on the platform all in order to please advertisers. You make a video that is no ad friendly, you don't get monetized and you don't get the algo hit. While doing this however they fully allow a whole slew of scammers including financial scammers (most of whom are in breach of SEC rules). But if you have a channel about a firearm, or swear you get penalized as if you were back in elementary school.
💥💯💯💯💥 Exactly!!!!
Exceptional knowledge sharing you do! Thanks for all this
Imagine renting a garage out to the google founders and being a CEO of RUclips. Literally a massive part of two of the biggest companies on the planet.
Basically, she won the lottery. It happens all the time. Most of these success stories are built on a foundation of good fortune.
Fucken hell, can't say I didn't feel a pang of jealousy at that xD
@@glenmurie Yup, it's pure fucking luck... but millions, or rather billions of idiots have been conditioned with the propaganda that it happens through 'hard work'.
@@glenmurie true, but she was already working at intel and applied skills and wasn’t drinking or getting high everynight. We all get where we are with circumstances favoring us. No one is really self made
RUclips us owned by google. They’re not separate companies. Separate brands. And talking financially, RUclips us very small. It’s brand recognition is big though
My faith is laid on you, dear ColdFusion. Content creators are the heart of streaming platforms and the viewers are the cells. RUclips is a great platform to facilitate both but, any turn they take, there will always be a competitor to take over if the house of cards falls apart. Honestly, I couldn't care less for pretentious policy and decision makers
Censorship is killing RUclips. It used to be great!
Hahah ....Neal Mohan is what we call in India as "Process Uncle" ...
No innovation , no risk taking ... Playing it safe behind process / framework keywords 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Late baby boomer and enthusiastic follower of technology since early childhood here. RUclips had a modest beginning back in 2005. Google saw the potential and purchased RUclips during 2008. RUclips has really come such a long way, becoming much more sophisticated and professional since it’s inception in 2005. I always hated short form videos sites, most of all TikTok. During the 2010’s I observed that RUclips was becoming the new generation of television. The previous CEO of RUclips helped RUclips grow and develop from a minor USA technology company to the large, influential, sleek, sophisticated, professional international technology company it became by the 2020’s. I don’t know enough about the new CEO and his vision to speculate on the future of RUclips. I’m technology minded, not business minded.
The natural divorce from Google Ads may be a temporary value loss because with Neal, formerly of Google, being open to Bing's AI integration means there should be innovations beyond editing gimmicks. Maybe even in generating tutorials as per the GPT 4 features' ability to string together recipes/etc.; RUclips becoming a comprehensive, visual extension of such features would see it becoming a tool that would make it a trend leader.
Bing (Mohan used to be at MS as well btw) offers all kinds of integration options to external actors Google doesn't. However, since RUclips is part of Google, they might have this kind of access to Google as well.
Welp Bing AI is cool for sure, but they really need to fix the dire comment spam situation first 😂
Lol their services are hitting personal assistant levels. Whats the number 1 trait desired in a personal assistant? Trust. The 1 thing none of the top , popularly known as fortune 500 companies have.
The creators built this platform no one else.
RUclips really was sold over a Grand Slam meal at Denny's 💀💀💀
Here’s a new idea for RUclips instead of demonizing people for not being kid friendly just age restrict them people should have the right to make money regardless of there content so just age restrict un kid friendly videos not demonize them and if you want to help people identify what kind of content there about to watch. Put ratings ya know like have an AI system give the video a rating like PG-13 or something and have restrict mode have customizable settings to what ratings it hides and it doesn’t have to be the same ratings that movies use you could make up your own you can also have content labels like tv ratings do under the rating you can have a smaller ,O, standing for (offensive content) so yeah that’s basically my idea let all content makers make money and use ratings to warn the viewers.
Mate .. Omid kordestani was the person who give the idea of buying RUclips for Google , not susan
Hopefully you talk about the new aggressive forced ads
uBlock Origin would be a much better topic. I haven't seen ads in years.
Google "stole" their revenue model from a company called "Overture"
Really?
She was told to leave, probably because of her censorship.
Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss.😊
She lost a ton of money - due the research for YT.
Rumble is now where it’s at. I made the switch last month and it’s like a breathe of fresh air. Rumble is like RUclips in 2012. It’s so nice to just be able to make videos without worrying about being censored for any random word, and to view videos on all topics.
I will have to give it a go
They have a pretty useless search function at present... you search for apple and orange comes up
The irony of you making a video about the RUclips CEO and their vision, asking content creators and users what they think, then closing out with promoting another streaming network Nebula 🤣🤣
If channels like yours would just post on Rumble I wouldn’t use RUclips!
Rumble needs way more variety and a better way to search channels. I’m only on there because my favorite predator catchers from RUclips have had many of their videos taken off or their channels taken down all together from here.

It's difficult to have an opinion about this change from a short video. But given the information given here, while an extremely competent manager, Mohan doesn't look like someone with a vision for the product he will manage, instead following shiny tech trends (AI, Blockchain, NFTs, etc). But at the same time, the core features of RUclips are already set and it's a mature product, so does it need a leader with strong vision with all the risks it involves, or a good caretaker, improving its solid core with additional but more minor features?

I have a bad feeling about this CEO. I hope I'm wrong.
Just because he is Indian?
@@Mr.RohitRajput Nah, probably not. Google and Microsoft have brilliant Indian CEOs as well.
But then again, Parag Agrawal failed bad... Something does feel bad about him. (like it did with Parag). But then again he is also giving the Satya Nadella vibes.

@@RJ-ch9zf parag didn’t fail at anything, he twisted musk’s arm to massively overpay for Twitter and ran away with tens of billions.
Being Indian doesn't mean much, people are people and you have good/bad individuals in every ethnicity. For example, My Internal Medicine doctor is Indian and he's one of the best doctors that I have ever went to. Caring, compassionate, intelligent, a master at his field.
The Wojcicki era (or whatever her surname was), was terrible. They would ban creators and commentators for the most ridiculous reasons. Now it seems they have calmed down a bit and allow some form of freedom of speech.
Cramming ads every few seconds on YT videos doesn't appear to be a "strategy" more than brute coercion towards monetization.
Trying to be tiktok is hurting yt. Censoring everything is also hurting RUclips. This new ceo doesn’t get it
If innovation means “tiktok dancers” we are already doomed.
I hate RUclips’s censorship. Many channels related to firearms content have been unfairly punished by shadowy RUclips censorship. Hidden rules like punishing those who show mags being inserted into magwells are absolutely ridiculous.
I am skeptical of the new CEO.
RUclips should start by fixing their main issues, specifically their comment bot spam issue, horrible copyright strike appealing process, better protection so channels don't constantly get hacked and more transparency with how to stay monetized. RUclips should stop jumping on every new bandwagon and should instead fix the existing issues plaguing the platform.
Oh, the spam issue is another thing I forgot to add to my list.
