- I compare the Toyota RAV4 Prime to the Tesla Model Y. I compare price, range, specs, features, performance, and give my opinion of which I prefer between the RAV4 Prime and the Telsa Model Y.
These two vehicles represent the hottest SUVs / crossovers in their segments. The Tesla Model Y shares 75% of parts with the market changing Tesla Model 3. The Model Y is expected to be the best seller in Tesla's lineup.
The Toyota RAV4 Prime (PHV) is in such high demand and I'll explain why.

Nice! This was good. You did some things really well.
Thanks! You're very knowledgeable. Good luck with your channel.
Range is very important, as well as price and the time it takes to recharge. The Tesla is not there for us ...yet.
Good review, thankyou.
Good points. Thanks for your feedback.
You forgot about fit and finish. My "22 XSE" is flawless. I hope Tesla's have gotten better.
great review
Thanks Walid! I appreciate that. Have a great day.
I do like the long-range for the Rav4, but dealers are asking for $50k for XSE. :( Did I miss it, but what is the service maintnenance cost for both vehicles?
Yeah, it's high but you're getting a federal tax credit of $7500 plus whatever state credits you may get. Toyota gives you 2 years / 25k miles of maintenance for free. After that, it's like any other hybrid vehicle - oil changes, air filters, brakes, etc.
I guess 50K is for the XSE with Tech Pack.
RAV4 is a much better choice for me. My sister has a Tesla S and to get service it took weeks just to diagnose.
Love my Prime. Just got it. Real world range drops a bit in the cold (with the heat), but it is easy to just charge it overnight. I will likely charge it 3 times a week. Very manageable!
Really this is an apples to kiwi fruit comparison. The fundamental difference still is do you want a reliable vehicle, or a car from a company that hates its customers. If you feel that Tesla is worth the hassle maybe that should be your choice. Living in the north, needing to deal with cold and snow. I chose the Prime.
Haha. Just wish Toyota would sell the Prime in larger numbers because the demand is super high.
Thanks for watching. Anyone own either of these cars? Let me know in the comments. If you enjoyed this video, I compare the RAV Prime to the RAV4 Hybrid and the gas RAV4 in this video: ruclips.net/video/pa-3WKpjtBA/видео.html
Be ready to pay $10k more above msrp on Rav 4 Prime
That's unfortunate that Toyota can't meet the demand right now. They could sell a ton of these if they could build them. Would you buy it if you could pay MSRP?
This is true. I went to purchase a fully loaded RAV4 Prime last weekend. MSRP was posted on the window stating $49,294. They wanted $59,999 for it. Insulting. But people pay it so...
Not so true if you shop around. I payed sticker for my XSE. Their are some dealers that are charging over sticker no way would I pay over sticker. Shame on them
100 % gas station vs 7% charge station. 600 miles vs 300 miles.
Thanks for your input. It's true. Difficult to beat a 600 mile range and convenience of filling up gas on a long trip.
@Potato I think for a lot people, something like the RAV4 Prime is an ideal vehicle since it can go on long trips easily and use EV only around town.
@@carsavvy4764 the toyota can actually go overlanding across desert or some remote place.
RAV 4 prime
Small details. The RAV4 Prime has too much sun through the roof and non-adjustable seatbelt B pillar attachment point. The seatbelt will cut your neck if you’re short.
Prime, for sure.
Thanks for that.
How short?
