  • What kind of line should you use in Moto Gymkhana? Is it the same as on a race track or something different? And how does The Flip-Flop tie in with line selection?

This is what got me on my 1st Motogymkhana competition which was a 1 make event. Coming from a Versys 650 and going to a 150cc on the contest, my lines were too tight for that poor 150cc. On the mid and exit it was struggling due to the low torque and even misfiring.

That’s exactly right. If you watch videos of skilled Honda Grom riders from Japan, you will notice that they focus less on full lock with a tight radius and they tend to take a slightly wider line and they just really lean the bike deep. I noticed the same thing watching Takayoshi Sakuta riding the Z125. Thanks for the comment :)

@@LexcoMotoGymkhana I am actually craving a small bike to practice for low torque condition (cheaper tires and maintenance too). Thinking of the CB150x so at least the ergonomics will be similar. On my next training at the local Honda Motogymkhana course, I am also thinking about renting a smaller bike instead of using my bike. If the local Motogymkhana scene will become more serious, I might get something in the 400 cc range (Ninja/z400, Duke390...) just for Motogymkhana. For now, I'll be happy with the student record (can only be taken once since course is fixed) at the Honda school (within 1s of the instructor record) on my Versys 650.

Doesn't it depend on where is the next cone positioned?

Absolutely. Every course and cone pattern is different so every line will be different.

How far apart do you space your practice cones?

I never really make any precise measurements but about 12-15 feet apart.
