Well that was quite the twist. The whole time I thought Button was the hero trying to save his wife, but the truth is that Button Mash is the real villain of the story, and who we thought was the villain is a victim.
He should've known: "The cake is a lie."
so basically, button beat the shit out of his wife sweetie belle, so she put him in video game themed saw traps

Love revenge stories. This was well done though I feel he should've suffered more. I'd love to step up as personal torturer. He'd get about two weeks before I'd let him die. It would be worth it and people like that deserve it. So why not ? Sweetie should've been there to torture him till the end. Not three easy, simple games. But real torture. Sexual and otherwise. Batter him emotionally and physically, beyond breaking his mind. But perhaps that wouldn't give sweetie bell any pleasure and therefore someone else should fill her role. But in the end, she didnt want to settle things with violence .. he deserves nothing less but I try to respect that decision.
Overall, a great reading of well written story...the only small(and really mean small) nick pick, is that since this is EQG....why are they swearing with Celestia’s name? She’s just a principal. 😅

Well, I liked the first half with the Saw game. I just think the first major twist doesn't have enough foreshadowing to work considering how dark and heavy the topic is.
That wasn't my plan. I wasn't trying to foreshadow anything in relation to the climax twist. What I was going for was making the listener believe that Button was the protagonist all along, up until the real truth is brought to light in the final confrontation. It adds for a good shock and completely destroys everything you did believe, hence the grimdark tag

*THE NUMBERS*
By my count, 5 PEOPLE died in My little pony: Cheating Dawn. And yes, I said people since this is an Equestria Girls story. According to the story, 4 victims were Male and the only female victim was that one lady killed in the chainsaw scene. With a runtime of 72 minutes, we get a kill on average every 14.24 minutes.
*GOLDEN CHAINSAW*
I'll give the golden chainsaw for coolest kill to Button Mash. Now, I know it was offscreen and technically unconfirmed but here me out, it's the circumstances surrounding his death that gives him the award. He’s chained up in a dark room with no food, water, way to get out, communication and thousands of miles away from civilization. Meaning he'll die from dehydration, starvation or insanity.

No Dull Machete this time because I actually think all the kills were pretty good. The chainsaw scene was done expertly well, and button mashs inevitable death will be pretty satisfying for sweetie belle.

This needs a sequel where catches the both of them and let them know that they made a classic gaming mistake. They left him alive at the end and now this is the sequel and this time it's Co-op. Survive together or die together 😎

I like how i called her being the game master at the last choice, but for completely different reasons. I thought that she'd be tied up and gagged so the violent option would do what he most feared. A voice recorder or walkie would be what the game master would have talked through.
I was really wrong, but i like this better.

*jigsaw theme* How to Beat the Gamemaster in Cheating Dawn.
Something nasty is about to ruin Button Mash's whole night. He wakes up unexpectedly in a Saw-like trap room with his arms and legs shackled and can't yet make out any descernable escape. At the flip of a lightswitch, a hooded figure introduces themselves as the Gamemaster and let's him know that unless he plays a series of life or death games, he will never see his wife alive again. I'm going to breakdown the mistakes made and how you can beat the twisted Gamemaster.
First off, it is going to be essential to pick up on every detail. For example, the Gamemaster's voice sounds like it's being run through a voice-changer and they'd only do that if they know for a fact that Button could recognize their voice quickly. Secondly, they definitely know the kinds of games Button has played to enough detail to model the current trap after one of them - which would make for greater knowlege than some passerby or acquaintance would know. With this in mind, unlike the kind of 'trying to be fair' death traps in a Saw movie these traps may be designed less fair to please the Gamemaster. If they are so sadistic, putting a brave front won't do much more than aggrivate them. Once Button's accepted to play, he should look around at his surroundings while listening to the Gamemaker to get as much info as possible.
The Gamemaker explains that Button will have a certain amount of time before he is electrocuted by the battery far away from him. And the clue they give on freeing himself is that he must use his knowlege from games he's played to find a key before reaching the last of three shocks, which will kill him. Something to note is that, again, the Gamemaster makes a remark about no cheat sheets to save him - more than piling on the suspicion. For now at least, Button should at least ask how many more hours until dawn to help gauge how much time he really has, even if it will only benefit him more after he completes this trap level. He should also ask about any things that would actually break the Gamemaster's rules so that way an out-of-nowhere technicality can't be so easily thrown at him and jeopardize both his life and Sweetie's.
The Gamemaster doesn't give him much time for back and forth as the trap battery begins to charge and they leave a walkie talkie on their way out. With no way to reach the battery, Button sifts through his gamer knowledge to figure out the key's possible hiding place. But not fast enough to avoid the first non-lethal shock. Wasting anytime trying to futily lunge at his torturer has cost him precious time that should have gone into going over his options sooner. I don't know about you, but after a nasty shock even a non-lethal one it is going to be much harder to concentrate. Not knowing when the next shock comes, Button starts with searching for lose bricks along the walls he can reach. Thank you video games! However, he falls short at finding what he is looking for at the first wall and loses yet more time getting a more violent shock. Who knows based on the EQG universe, but a severe enough to fry skin is going to seriously disorient you if not knock you out altogether. But regardless, he finishes finding no lose bricks on the second wall much faster and goes to the wall he woke up on last. Okay, I realize that things you're looking for can be in the last place you look, but this is ridiculous. If the captor is this precise, they wouldn't have placed our body on a random wall and it should have been the first place he looked. Wouldn't you know it, he does find the elusive loose brick and throws it to snag the key. If it were me I would have thrown it at the battery hoping to possibly bust it to give myself more time, but there's no guarantee it would work. Button just barely gets three of his restraints off before the final lethal surge of electricity - lucky for him that all of the chains were needed to deliver the killing blow and he barely makes it out untoasted. Electrical burns, but not totally roasted.
After that kind of shock therapy, I'm surprised he wakes up at all after passing out. With so called level one completed, Button has two more deadly challenges to go to save his wife and maybe get to the bottom of who is really the Gamemaster.

I’ll say this, that was a twist I didn’t see coming. But when you think about it. It doesn’t make sense. If Button Mash abuses and tortures his wife, why’d he agree to play the game and go through all that torture to save her?
He didn't. The entire explanation is told at the end when he listens to the recording of Erica's voice.
I did listen to the recording again. I didn’t hear any explanation of why Button chose to rescue Sweetiebelle since he abuses her anyway. Or am I understanding something wrong? If so, please explain it to me.
@sonicgen20 Abusers see their victims as trophies, losing her would mean losing something he holds as his own personal trophy that he can use and abuse with no consequences. He's a manipulative monster that can't afford to lose his punching bag, hence why he tried to sweettalk Sweetie Belle at gunpoint; to save his own ass and fool her into thinking she can't live without him.
However, that doesn't mean Sweetie Belle is any angel by doing what she did. She murdered and stooped to Button's level to get what she wanted, so in the end, they're both monsters of different breeds.

So sweetie belle is his stress toy when he gets mad he takes his anger out on her she stay silent, hoping he would clean up his act, but he does it all over again am I right?

This is exactly like the Saw series. Just average.
I agree the torture should've been more personalized and creative. So many methods to choose from around the globe and she gave him an easy, really easy game. Short and simple. But he deserved more. Not enough torture in my opinion. It was very weak in that respect. But I would theorize it would be because of sweetie bell and the fact that she still wanted to give him a fighting chance. I would never. Tie em down and enjoy.
Sweetie didn't want to stoop to Button's level of using violence to solve problems, unaware she'd already done so by murdering people through her desire for revenge, hence why this is a grimdark. Torture wasn't her goal, only to use Button for her wants, give him a good taste of his own medicine, and to win in the end, knowing his desire to kill her in the end decision would cloud his mind, which is why he didn't have the smarts to check the gun for ammo, along with the fact that his mentality was pretty much beyond repair.
Also, if you listen to Sweetie in the final confrontation, the traps were personally implied. They were metaphors to her hell if a life with him, and the whole structure where the main three took place was a metaphor to their relationship; unstable and forgotten, with the traps referencing what destroyed their relationship entirely. By Button going through what destroyed their relationship physically and mentally, he faced what he'd put Sweetie through in the rawest form of revenge

But that's my personal opinion Sparrow 9642. If you can't understand that simple concept idk what to tell you man.

Maybe it would be too dark but what if at the end they told him the final key was hidden in his bladder connected to a wire and if he wanted to get free, he'd have to remove it the hard way.
