I love the fact that despite singing about being hateful, angry, and jealous, he's smiling ear to ear.

Based on his performances I think Louis Armstrong was enjoying life more then anyone else in the 1920's.

The film was called "Rhapsody in Black and Blue". Louis Armstrong also performed this song the same year (1932) in a Betty Boop cartoon called "I'll be glad when you're dead". That one's all over youtube too so it's easy to find.

Answers to my own question, from the imdb.com site.
It's from one of his first two films, not so long after talkies arrived:
    -----------------------------
1932 I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You (short) (performer: "I'LL BE GLAD WHEN YOU'RE DEAD YOU RASCAL YOU")
1932 A Rhapsody in Black and Blue (short) (performer: "Shine", " I'll Be Glad When You're Dead You Rascal You")

Such a shame that whoever the DIrector was humiliated him like this. But the performance is untouchable

What is this performance and where and when did it take place? This is unbelievable. That solo at the end is straight butter I can't even believe it.

Overt racism aside, this performance kicks ass.

Depends on whose funeral it is...seems like the perfect song for the funeral of that 'rascal'. ;-)

WOW, This would NEVER be released today! It is, most definitely. NOT, PC! I saw it in the movie "Reunion in France," where you can, actually, understand the words. Not garbled like this one. And I thought that it MUST have been written just for it. Sorry to say, I was wrong! Horrible song!
