    Driving down the coast and stopped in to Guerilla Bay just out of curiosity. I have never been so taken with a beach as this. It was a beautiful South Coast day to begin with but the stunning rock formations and views, the peaceful water and the huge crashing waves on the rocks will forever remain in my memory. One of my favouritie places in all my travels.

    Loved those choices. I love the South coast of Australia on both sides of our island. Please don't remove this video for some years as I will be referring back to it from time to time! I loved the fact that you stayed away from the larger more iconic Australian beaches in your choices. Considering NSW has thousands of beaches, I think it is great that you are highlighting all the smaller and 'seemingly' insignificant beaches.
    What people/tourists should be informed of is that NSW beaches are 'typically' nicer than those sought in QLD (I have lived in a number of places in QLD and studied coastal geology on the east coast of Australia and I understand why my claim is true). The reasons for this claim are; the water is typically cooler and hence avoids the algae blooms that can plague warmer waters; the coastlines consists of headlands of rocky substrates - the weathering of which produces some of the best sand - as evidenced by the beaches in between those headlands, these rocky coastlines are more precipitous in profile than QLD beaches, which are typically flatter and more prograded in shape. This precipitous shape aids in the settling of sands and turbid elements to the sea floor more quickly.
    Alternatively, QLD beaches and their surrounding areas are typically shallower on average, have finer sediments that stay in suspension longer making waters less clear. Readers might believe an error in my generalisations here as exceptions do exist - Burleigh Heads for example, but the above should be viewed as a general rule. NSW is also a lot closer to the colder and rough waters of the great southern ocean which blow northward up both sides of our island. Hence, constant southerly currents move clean, cooler waters from the south, north up along the coast providing a constant renewal of waters. A number of other less obvious factors also are at work in this phenomena, which are too complex to discuss here.
    We should all be thankful of the pleasures and treasures we enjoy down south here in NSW - especially the cooler temps and less dangerous sea-life. The QLD coastline has its own extensive list of majestic attractions, such as the GBR, coastal islands, famous shipwrecks, etc., and of which, I have had many years to appreciate - some of which are beaches themselves. Around the Tropic of Capricorn to the north, the 'face' of the Australian coastline changes dramatically. This is similarly true of the west coast.
    I hope this has been of interest to those of your channel. Sub and liked. 👍
    You appear to live on the south coast and enjoy that area. If your ever up Sydney way and wish to see some gems of beaches up here (no not the known ones) but the lessor known ones, reply here and I'll share and email and or show you around if you would like.

    • @barefootgeek
      @barefootgeek  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the feedback and information. I agree regarding the coastline. I was fortunate enough to have work (for a surf life saving organisation) take me to all corners of Australia and I didn't find anywhere I liked as much as here. :)

      @@barefootgeek Really?! I'm surprised. The west coast is stunning, I particularly love the area south of Perth Down to Windy bay, not to mention around Shark bay. There are some areas of the QLD north coast I love as well. It's a damn good thing I'm, am not rich as I would struggle to find a place to call home. South of Forster is also nice, around Smith's lake and Celito beach. I have yet to get to SA. I'm reliably informed it's also very nice

      @TheEditor107 Well that IS true, and I love to holiday down that way. but you can't offer all the facilities and goodies that the Sutherland Shire has all in one small area. And we cercainlyhave enough beaches to counter what you have to offer, even if the sand here isn't quite as white.

    great video, just a couple of points on snake bay, it is illegal to fly a drone in the national park, and it is located in a marine park where it is also illegal to fish.

    • @barefootgeek
      @barefootgeek  4 года назад +2

      Thanks Dean. What you've said is incorrect in all regards though.
      Firstly on the subject of drones in parks - it is not 'illegal' to fly a drone in a national park anyway. You simply have to notify the nearest park office and then stick to the afore-mentioned standard rules (details of the policy can be found here - www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/conservation-and-heritage/care-for-parks/drones-in-parks). Also worth pointing out that thousands of hours of drone footage is shot in national parks every year by recreational drone users and national parks have never pursued a single case against anyone. Also the drones in parks are a matter of policy, not law.
      Secondly the footage shot in this video was commissioned by Shoalhaven Council (within which the Murramurang National Park sits) - and all necessary permissions were granted and all legal requirements regarding height etc were fulfilled.
      Thirdly, Snake Bay is not in any Marine Park - it is nowhere neither either the Jervis Bay Marine Park or the Batemans Marine Park - but if even if it was - you are still allowed to fish in both of those marine parks either off a boat or the land. Murramurang National Park even has a section on fishing on its official National Parks website (details here - www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/visit-a-park/parks/murramarang-national-park).
      So - thanks for watching - maybe next time just enjoy the footage and stop being a sheriff on subjects you clearly know absolutely nothing about.

    An interesting story about Snake Bay, It is said in local folklore that German submarines would pull into the bay to renew battery water. This killed off the local marine wildlife. I have been there and dived it many times and it was indeed devoid until you start to move out of the bay.
