- WNBA coverage on RUclips has a serious problem. People who intentionally lie severely distort things for clicks and views. Channels that critique the WNBA are fine, but channels who flat out lie are the problem.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again one of the reasons why I consume and promote your content is because you have integrity!!! I don't know when the societal shift happened, and not having integrity/being nasty to people and just being crappy became the norm. But, especially in this space it is running rampant. I don't understand where intellectual and journalistic integrity went. I remember growing up, to be a journalist was to be enlightening, responsible, somebody who had a hot take, it was not only cool be a journalist but they could be trusted a little more. Pandering, creating false narratives have always existed I'm not acting like they didn't. But, especially when talking about the W this level of craziness is unprecedented. It sucks honestly. I was so excited prior to the season starting, at the thought of all the new exposure press and looks and eyes coming to the W.
As always I really appreciate you Carmella. Like you I was so excited for the additional exposure this season, and I still am overall, but the level of dishonesty and at times shear hatred toward WBB players and coaches is just mind blowing. Rage, anger and lies do sell unfortunately. Its to the point that when I see claims about the WNBA I have to search on Google to fact check everything.

Wow, that is extremely well said. Just extremely well said I don’t think all hope is lost for the WNBA. Given the way society is right now. I think some of this comes with the territory in terms of them now having greater exposure. But, just like you said so well, I think it’s incumbent upon us to support people like Quita. She is a shining star in the darkness.
@@QuitaLovesSports I blame us newbie CC fans. we didn't do anything wrong, but we were naive and over-enthusiastic, and p*ssed everyone off. so then there was a whole contrary 'hater' movement, and Angel Reese got caught up in it (and loved doing that -- the girl is all about the clicks, and damn she's good at it), and race got to be part of it, and politics and DEI and then the Olympics and and and.
and like I say, people like me are the cause. because we fell in love with CC's style. and then coach Sides and GM Dunn and coach Reeve are putting her down, and we all got b*tt-hurt and started hating on them, and it turned into drama.
which has nothing to do with CC, or AR, or the W or Team USA. just, a lot of free-flying bad feelings -- like you put it, anger. and people capitalizing on that. (not to mention a lot of just ridiculous flame wars -- "nobody cares about assists." dude, seriously?)
but yeah, the W was not ready for CC. they thought they were, and dissed her, and got ready to teach her a lesson. well guess what, the All-Stars taught them a lesson. so now what, haters?
but I don't WANT to be dissing on Team USA, or the W. I want to be celebrating CC's amazing assists! why isn't that an option?

They Hate Cheryl Reeves, not just for the "Olympic snub" of Caitlin Clark. They hate her, cause she complained/Said early in the preseason: 'I never saw a league that only promoted one player, especially when we have others who are equally as marketable'. She said this, during The Lynx vs Sky preseason game earlier this year, when it wasn't televised, the Fever preseason game was.
That's because Nike owns a portion of the WNBA, and exclusively promotes Caitlin Clark. So, that's why we got 28 out of 40 TV games with the fever, and all the crazy undeserved pre season publicity, which got the curiosity seekers to watch, despite the fact Reese and her LSU team were more popular the past two seasons in the NCAA.

Most wnba channels I've seen have sold out to click bait. Lying and stirring up hate is what most of them are doing. I only watch 3 channels now.

@@outsidethegarden@DeeCarLady My brother has only loosely followed the Washington Mystics team from their beginning, because it's the team closest to where we grew up, we're both close in age to Cheryl Miller (and Kim Mulkey) and after fifty something years of following sports, for him there's reached a point where the major U.S. pro leagues, be it the NFL or baseball or NHL, NBA or pro MLS soccer, have become either a little too tedious or stale or predictable. His usual habit every year is to watch the NCAA women's final four as long as it isn't being over-dominated by the programs that have been coached by the late Pat Summit, the now retired Tara Vandeveer, Geno Auriemma, Kim Mulkey or Dawn Staley. Once he saw the semifinal game in Dallas when Caitlin Clark put in 40+ points in the toppling of unbeaten So. Carolina and saw the cohesion and determination of the Univ. of Iowa team that would eventually go to play in two NCAA finals, he set out to get us a couple of tickets to the Iowa game at Maryland last February 3. When he watches his preferred WNBA matchups he understands all the limitations in the skills of the players in the women's game and just proceeds from there. Like so many, many others he's seen all the youtube segments and their comment sections from both the most ardent CC defenders and her harshest critics and doubters alike and all the comments from those who are badly lacking in their basketball knowledge(lol). To him it's almost all beside the point, he's only trying to follow the rookie campaign of CC and accepts all the shortcomings and major adjustments she's had to endure as a rookie. He refuses to be deterred by any of the inferiority in the women's game.

I’ve had to use the ‘don’t recommend this channel’ to about 2 dozen WNBA related channels. There are so many new channels popping up trying to capitalize on the new surge in popularity. As a Caitlin Clark fan, I have to admit most of them are CC propaganda channels that just use her to hate on the WNBA but claim to be fan’s of women’s sports. I need to keep blocking more and more channels every week.
I know the feeling. I also click on "don't recommend channel" when there's an AI narration.

Also, youtube will demonotize a channel but keep the toxic nonsense up on the platform so YT can still profit from the harm.
Its rage bait thats toxic, BUT its heavily watched and supported by a certain fanbase who pushed the agenda that their favorite player was a helpless victim who the whole league was conspiring against. At the same time they ignore the hatred, harassment and toxicity they were bringing to the other players, fans and the whole wbb community. Their favorite player even ignored it until Carrington called it out.
Yeah, those poor babies who assaulted Caitlin on court, including non basketball hits from behind and went on social media and trashed Caitlin like Carrington and Chennedy. That behaviour should have got them at least suspended for several games. Talk about creating a hostile work environment. Caitlin responded with dignity and class at every slight and provocation. A’Ja Wilson straight up race baited when Caitlin stated getting major endorsements. The WNBA coaches and players involved on this attack on Caitlin and her fan base got them some blowback. They got what they deserved. No one can prove that any of these podcasts have anything to do with Caitlin or her fan base. Just some opportunists taking advantage of a league that is out of control and not run professionally.
The Click/Rage bait videos are mostly lies and slander.
Most WNBA accounts are rather biased and are just annoyingly misguided. You’re my first and best source of basketball.

Thank you, Quita, for braving that ragebait rabbit hole to share this commentary about this huge and often dispiriting problem with RUclips. I really wish people were not so gullible to fall for this, but it’s the same way people fall for drugs or gambling. It’s an addiction. Our brains can get addicted to feelings like rage and fear and disgust, with every unhinged rant we make in the comment section serving as “just one more hit”.
My perspective on this as a longtime Iowa Hawkeye fan (and therefore a huge CC fan obvs) is that it feels like only a few months ago if I came here looking for CC content it was mostly positive “yay she’s good” highlight stuff. Of course, the anti-Angel nonsense has been going on for over a year, but now it has metastasized (yes like cancer spreading through the body) into a full “Caitlin vs the W” culture war propaganda machine. This crap poses as “fandom” for CC, but if your love for CC is connected to your love for the game, it’s not even really for you. It’s for the flat earthers who see CC as a convenient avatar for their own anti-Black and anti-lesbian feelings of resentment towards the WNBA. They don’t even care that CC herself has spoken out against their lies. They’re too busy pushing their nasty agenda and making money off a bunch of gullible saps.

I have seen several of those . I think it seems to be a foreign channel(s) that posts headlines for clicks. And usually the one's that say " Reese is clear favorite for ROY " , just to get people arguing about it . Clark is running away with the ROY race and people just want to get arguments started .

What you have now will grow into a huge loyal fan base of people who want real commentary. “Worrying” or “being frustrated” about what other people are doing is the number one reason great RUclipsrs don’t see their vision through. It's not just women's basketball that does this unfortunately but it's so frustrating to have what used to feel like a safe space get invaded by these people
Do you mean the same "safe space" where hetero players have been targeted, ostracized, bullied and even run out of the league due to their sexual orientation? The SAME safe space that targeted a 22 year-old rookie just because her ability and popularity exceeded theirs? THAT safe space? The rage and toxicity were already there si the WNBA. The difference is that NOW, people are watching and they have seen it up close and personal. Before, very few knew how toxic the WNBA was. Now, the entire planet knows it.
I have noticed a lot of false headlines that are flat out lies.. They are doing it to attract viewers thus upping the rating of their channel.. I have started to report these channels and always give them a thumbs down.. I recently found out that they refer to this as "click baiting"..

lol, click-baiting is a much broader term, and covers most of the posts on the internet. any news article with a question mark ("Does Politician A Really Support Policy B?" "Is Alcohol Good for You?") or any kind of dare ("You Won't Believe What Scientist C Said About Pollution!") is click-bait. it's how you get people to read (or at least click on) your article. some sites are just a bunch of click-bait links; others have actual content, but still need to get people to click through and (hopefully) read the articles.

one constant in the sites I watch (you, ConvosWithCarter, the Adrienne Rich Show, sometimes Mick Talks Hoops and the Ben Daniel Podcast) is, commenters asking the site owner if they've ever considered being a coach. (and in the case of discussion about the Indiana Fever, if they would PLEASE consider being a coach.)
but it's the deeper problem: those who know how, do, and those who don't know how, coach. not always: Cheryl Miller and Lisa Bluder obviously know something very important about coaching. but that doesn't necessarily translate into actually coaching, especially at a high level -- e.g. Cheryl Reeve.
what you have to offer is very valuable. offering it to us on You Tube, for free, isn't the best way to make money OR get appreciated. especially now that you're getting drowned out by AI-generated cr@p.
just, if you're content to be appreciated by a small-ish number of people -- well, here we are. and we deeply thank you, for the work you put in and the care you take.

Fan anger, player personal animus, and media incited racist hate narrative memes are all meant to provoke stoke emotional responses, hence the hate and rage click bait tube videos about the WNBA, Caitlin Clark - Christie Sides - Indiana fever, Angel Reese, Cheryl Reeves, Olympic Team, etc are flooding the web channels.
I just have several credible sports critic analyst podcasters that I rely on, that's it, I have learned to ignore the obvious rage race bait click video tubes.
they ought to be sued for putting thumbnail statements in Quotes which implies that the person in the thumbnail actually said the quote. Then the video has nothing about the title as content or context.

I've hidden so many channels spreading false information. It's disgusting. These people go around watching what grinds people gears and they go at it. If people started suing them they will stop.

Quita your channel is the best out here covering Women's Basketball. You are fair and so knowledgeable and what you don't know you research thoroughly before reporting. I don't watch any other channels because they are spewing rage and are simply mean. Even some previous male professional Basketball ball players on their channels have taken the bait and keep the false narrative going. Also on some the channels there's too much profane language for me...that's just me. I majored in English with a minor in Mass Communication/Journalism and what these you tubers are doing is what is called yellow Journalism in the print media. Quita keep doing what you do. People may click on some of those videos once or twice out of curiosity, but they won't subscribe or continue to subscribe because they are lies, or at the very least misleading. This started happening when she was at the end of her Iowa days, but it has Intensified. It's insane.
People who know Nothing about her Nor basketball, are coming out of the wood & making video's!
They're embarrassing themselves, and they're Deceiving people (but they don't care)!
I watched a couple video's that were only about 5 minutes long. He had interesting headlines, so i I clicked on it! I even gave him a 2nd chance, and realized it was BS.
Some titles are tempting to click, but then I think ... "I know better than that"!!
I'm Very selective what YT I'll watch. I stick with the one's who have been covering this content for a Long time. They are the Legit one's!

I love to click 'Don't recommend channel' when those kinds of videos pop up. I dont even bother watching. You can usually tell by the thumbnail if they're only out for views or actually providing real content.

It's not just WNBA stuff. I recently saw a video pop up saying that the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames had made a huge trade when they hadn't.

Quita, I appreciate your channel because you have a good knowledge of the WNBA and you report accurately. I wish RUclips would start demonetizing or assessing heavy fines for these click bait RUclipsrs for blatant false reporting because it's really getting bad. I'm sure RUclips as a private entity has the right to monitor and enforce its content. I understand people make mistakes and they may report something false unintentionally from time to time but they need to do something about these channels because there's so many of them now that I'm getting to the point of not wanting to watch RUclips videos anymore.

I have a girl's basketball program that I started in 1997. Because of all of the recent interest in women's basketball, good and bad, we have experienced an explosion of interest in joining our program. This is especially at the PK-1/2 level. So I don't like the videos but my organization is benefitting from it. I am glad you do what you do. Keep it up. Oh yeah, I am from Baltimore , Angel country, so she is the big draw for my players.

Sounds like you don’t value the first amendment to the U.S. constitution much. You know, that little item that guarantees us the right to freedom of speech in this great nation. Few other countries afford their population that sacred right. You might be more comfortable moving to North Korea. Just don’t criticize anybody with political power. It won’t go well for you.

These people would go into Star Wars boards and tell them why Star Trek was better just to bait those people into flooding the Star Trek channels with hatred and it always worked.

I just checked two of those channels, they have way less subscribers. 5k and 1k. But more in general, it is a general problem that rage and fear sells. We have not build a world that brings out the best of how our brains work.

THANK YOU for posting this. I hate and won't watch these manipulated video thumbnails and fake quotes designed to attract clicks and lure opposing fans into arguments. There are a lot of channels that use AI generated voices and make stuff up.
The WNBA got more popular. With more fame, more factions and attention. Even minor decisions and actions by anyone associated with the WNBA will get viewed under a microscope. Rage-bait is less effective against popular people like LeBron and Steph for example. It still exists but for the most part bounces off them. People like coach Reeve don't represent the popular, dominant clique anymore. Anyone looking at it objectively can sense that she plays into it with arguably questionable decisions on the court (full court press in an All Star game?!) and with her demeanor in the media (a la "two s**ts" remark).
You, Mick and Carter are the only 3 that I trust. I hope to see y’all’s channels grow.

Glad I found your channel last season when I started to get back into the wnba more heavily. It was a perfect resource for a fan like me who was invested in the league during its inaugural years through the 2000s but fell off along the way(I actually fell off w the NBA to an extent as well).
I appreciate the rational approach to how you cover the sport.
I will say that sadly, this influx of BS and toxicity was bound to happen as the sport grew. These types of rage baiters have infected everything.
THIS is why I only watch your channel and another one about wnba, I can’t stand all the rage click baiting, all the BREAKING NEWS bull, all the sensationalism! I usually select “not interested” on the stuff I know is false. If I click on one that turns out to be either just AI voiceover stuff or lies, I make sure to thumbs down. I think it’s important to 👎 those videos if you accidentally view them.

I will only watch your channel. I can't stand all the crap said against the WNBA. Some people are so easy to dupe nowadays.
It stinks when fans make their choice player look bad, because it's them who have to take the consequences and answer why that's happening, not the fans. Hope enough people have enough critical thinking skills to not incorrectly tarnish their favorite players.
People are quick to repeat what they heard with out doing any quality research. Im sure interviews are still available for people to hear what someone has or hasn't said.
Hate, division, racism, etc, is all the rage in everything right now. Think about the radio host who were literally homeless before someone put a mike in front of them to spew their hate. Right now the WNBA is feeding off of it, like the NBA did with Magic and Bird. Let's see if the WNBA can also do like the NBA, and positively turn all the attention into an actual strong, positive, supportive, long lasting, fan base. I hope they can. Caitlin brought countless positive things to WNBA. Firstly as a fantastic player and a person and than undisputably a lot of eyes, old and new, who are getting to know WNBA because of her. I am amongst them. And this is good for women sport! All shoud just recognized that. Honestly, at the beginning, they were harsh and disrespectful to CC in the game or in the comments about her. And the fans noticed. But ok, this is water under the bridge. We should all learn. But yes, there are a lot of people/channels on YT who use her name to spread hate. Every time they are interviewed they are some of the most family oriented, cheerful, and well spoken fans imaginable. This is such gross revisionist history and a downright fabrication. Many of the eyes she supposedly brought to the game were hateful, rude, and harassing all the other players, fans, and even her own teammates. If you think it's a good thing that Aliyah had to remove her social media because she was getting racially harrassed by CC fans, that says a lot. Mostly, it says you don't care what anyone had to endure unless it was your favorite player. These players were getting called slurs and getting threats. Even CC ignored it until Carrington called her out. Nothing of the sort was happening to Clark. Not by fans, announcers, or other players.

I am so glad I came across this video- I have been bombarded with these fake videos. To me what is sad, aside from the fact that the content creators have no integrity, is the comments. It's a buffet of mostly men jumping on the opportunity to drag women, to show their misogynistic tendencies. If you recall, when this WNBA season started, everyone all of a sudden had an opinion about the W, including some very prominent athletes and they too took the opportunity to bash the W and its players. TO me what it boils down to is people love to spew hate.

I'm having to block so many of these "women basketball fans" channels left and right. Not only annoying, but it's pretty clear to me that they're bias and have no knowledge of women's basketball. Putting down other players and coaches, creating false narratives that are none to be seen, think players are all haters, and these "channels" are just toxic. Rather ironic, to me, that they seem to come across to be haters. Which in turn, has made a whole bunch of casuals (not all) not only listening to them, but are following these so called narratives and believing these narratives. When there's none. It's just basketball and a league of women who love to play basketball. The women do support each other and fans (whether you're just getting into the women basketball fandom or has been) having the understanding of supporting their teams and players. But having the common sense to not right out hate nor put down any players and coaches. It's getting out of hand is what I feel like in this new wave of the women's basketball interest.

Quita, I like watching your show, you keep me centered in knowing both sides of the story. But as a CC fan, I will tell you, I probably speak for a lot of us. We do not hate the WNBA; we don't hate the players that were here before. We just didn't care about it at all before CC. I am a jock I watch all sports; I tried watching the Monarchs back in the day. The WNBA never interested me before I started watching CC during 2023 Final 4's. I got hooked and been watching her since. TBH I don't care about the past, I want to see what this can be like now, I just want her treated like any other player, I don't want to see her get special treatment either way. P.S. I do think Christy Sides is one of the worse coaches I have ever seen in any sport and pretty sure she will be replaced at some point.
