See Through the Lens of the World's Best Underwater Surf Photographer | Ben Thouard in “Surface"

- SURFACE, a ROAM Original, is the story of how award-winning photographer Ben Thouard invented a new perspective of our world-shot underwater from inside a wave looking back at the landscape as never seen before. His love of the ocean, surfing, and windsurfing brought him to the small village of Teahupoo, Tahiti, where he can see the legendary surf break from his backyard. From the crystal clear waters of French Polynesia, his creative vision and desire to do something original took hold. After 15 years of trial and error, failure and success, he persevered to discover his own signature photographic style, as seen in his stunning new book, SURFACE. He hopes this new vision of our oceans, in their most pristine form, will inspire others to protect them. “Through this work, I hope people can realize that we need to take care of our garbage and recycle all of the plastic,” says Ben.

So I’m guessing they used the second best underwater photographer to record him? Lol
true.
To say anyone is 'the best' at any art is a strange claim
Hahaha. I'm the worlds best at something subjective and unable to rank....weird flex but ok
That was his wife who is second photographer.
@@gibbethoskins8621 agreed. stupid title. brilliant video. stunning work.
This video brought tears to my eyes. The beauty of those waves, those pictures, the videos captured... I am at awe. Amazing photographer and amazing videographer! 😍
Thank you so much SURFER and ROAM !! Love !
Ben, Your work is amazing!!!! Makes me want to get out in the surf to shoot. 3 more weeks and I am back in Costa Rica. Land of the Pura Vida! My images can be viewed at www.viadeagua.com

Jaw dropping stuff. Awesome life and passion
Bruh. So good. I shoot a lot of aquatic life around the world while diving and your shots are fantasyland good.

Not enough girls in bikini so I had to give it a vote down. Whats the point of surf but that?
@@oommcc dude come on
50k views for this masterpiece are ridiculous.
I also see 10 dislikes, envy is a bad beast...
Mind blowing.
I hope the dislikers shirt sleeves will slide down while washing hands
Simply amazing!
To this day the viewers increased up to 75%. Dislikers? 750%!! Unhappy, negative people is growing. I pray the Lord for you and ask for them too
Sorry but Clark Little has been doing this for over 10 years. He did not invent this.
I feel like there was a huge missed opportunity with " Sea through"

The way you can see the mountains through the waves is so freaking awesome and stunning.
Where can I buy a print...?
Song at 00:40?
*Edit the song is With you - Sam Von Horn
Thank you.
So he just deceides to live in Tahiti and become a photographer. Works on a project that takes a year for a few pictures. Yeah, must be nice to be that rich.

Fun fact: you didn’t look this up, it just popped up and you thought it was cool

This photography evoked such awe in me it brought tears to my eyes. It took me back to peering through waves much like that while snorkeling as a kid. I think now what I thought then: that looking through the window of the wave is some sort of divine gift which might otherwise be reserved for the gods. It's a rare work that can call forward such strong feelings. Super commendable!
I feel this ♥️
"I couldn't even imagine today being away from the ocean." I know exactly how you feel.
Make one showing Ryan Craig, his cover shots have been insane, id love to see that!
3:39 i am the only one to see half a body with the perspective
Now I can't unsee it.
Upload this to Vimeo and you will get the Staff Pick easily. Incredible video :)
This is absolutely awesome!
WHAT A GREAT TIME FOR MY QUALITY TO DROP TO 240P WTF
Relax Itachi
Huge respect, he's basically using the wave as a lens
Him “I couldn’t imagine being away from the ocean” I do it everyday I’m from Utah
It’s sad to see how dead the coral is
Hamza L. Coral is not supposed to be dead like that
What dead coral?
I recon I'd be dead if i had those waves breaking on me daily haha
@@hamzahl75 yeah but coral is going to be gone by 2050 because co2 that humans are pumping into the atmosphere is making the water acidic. And by 2070 it will be too toxic to swim in some areas
VICTOR Å lol the oceans can not become acidic. Basic chemistry debunks “Climate alarmist propaganda.”
5:28 plot twist he's just filming the regular opening of the portal to another world
This is why editing photos should be used responsibly and not taken lightly. This man actually took the time to find that gap in nature where the wave turns into a lens and shows this wonderful scene. Photography is about where u are and when... and the work it takes to get there. This is why i hate instagram.
Great imagery Ben, Next level through the wave landscapes, brilliant!
Impressive, beautiful, passionate. It takes time, perseverance and dedication to become someone like you. Inspiring.
Imagine hes recording the wave but it's actually a tsunami.
He’d probably notice before that, but lol
Some beautiful images. Unfortunately the French accent keeps reminding me of Bikini Bottom. But wow! Really stunning images.
gay
Lol
Beautiful footage! Nice work!
This is mesmerising how peaceful it is under water the light is beautiful and the massive waves that could easily knock you out are so calm and clear
I surf and take photographs sometimes, but I could never do this because being underwater scares me. Specially when it's so deep.
As I sit here in awe after watching this amazing video on December 16, 2019 I realize there are at least 94 people on this earth that are either jealous and lack any creative talent or they’re just blind and shouldn’t be liking or disliking the video in the first place. If in case it is the latter, I apologize.
For all you negative Nancy’s, get off your couch and or computer and at least go take a walk outside. It won’t hurt you, trust me.
Aaron
Well said 😊

Clark is the shore break king saw his documentary the guy has no regard for his own health lol

This is Really Cool.... I Love floating in the water in the Ocean... 💕
You have to imagine the thousands and thousands of hours spent in the water to get those beautiful images. Congratulations for this fantastic job.
umm 225 people that don't like this must be landlocked lol
Can anyone film a person who was filming the photographer?
That is what you call detication! Waiting months and years for a perfect shot !
His imagery is incredible, would love to have one on a canvas
Epic my friend! ! Sick video.
Enjoy your life is what this tells me. 😊
This is superb!!!! Im just wondering whose his cameraman, how he did that? Its really amazing. Anybody here know what fps did they used in this shoot? 120, 240fps?
I hop you don't use music to attract the Muslim audience
This motivates me to step up my ocean photography.
This is absolutely fantastic. Beautiful imagery, beautiful story. I love this.
Incredible! I love swimming in the ocean. I find it calming when you lie down on the floor of the ocean and you look up and watch the surface of the water. Thanks for sharing!
Just imagine how much fun it would be to hang out with those 85 people that disliked this .........
Nice job man! Great work! I am thoroughly impressed by your photographs. Keep up the awesome work!
Those shots are AMAZING! Next level, spiritual even.
It has always been a dream of mine to do underwater photography. This is beyond amazing!
Ben, you are the most innovative, dedicated and accomplished photographer I have ever seen! Your work is in a class by itself and an absolute thrill to experience!
3:57 looks amazing
This almost put me to sleep, not out of boredom, but it was so relaxing and mesmerizing
60 dislikes are people that are scared of the ocean.
I can see where they are coming from. This guy is making money out of mother natures beauty. Could you imagine growing up and all you see is pictures like this everywhere.. You would soon get over it and that is a scary thought! Just my opinion. I think its a mad fun awesome job though and I love it all. I live by the ocean and love the ocean. He should also be taking pictures of rubbish running through waves too :D
Surf photographer? Is that even a thing?
AWESOME, BEAUTIFUL. When i watch this, i feel like i really want to be a waterman. Huge. Thanks.
Wow. Never before seen. Even from a surfers point of view.

The song is: With You - Sam von Horn. If anyone is curious
Clark Little is also a phenomenal Underwater Photographer. Who is the "best" is up to interpretation
Broken hatred. The link above to his story and photo kit is BROKEN !! - Non the less I salute you and cheer you on Ben. An amazing photo view finder perspective. Greg Greenrow, and Aussie. Way back in around 1967-8. Strapped a full size underwater camera on his back positioned so it would shoot over his shoulder. Knee riding a "pipo board" aka, belly board or buggie board. Greg took us "Inside the Green Room" the name of his film. Farther back in to a tub than anyone had recorded before. Then to top it. He proved one could turn up in to and over with the breaking wave and complete the 360 roll with so much speed. He would shoot out of the tube. All caught on film, on a biggie board riding on his knees. Man I wish I could find that film. I saw it in 1970. Anybody - Hit me up if you know where I can find a copy.
As a lover of the ocean this video was inspiring , and expressed my own experiences also , always looking for that new shot on camera never done before. Great video and thanks for sharing 👊
Amazing amount of dedication and passion for what he does. Very inspirational.
That is magical footage, nature can be so awe inspiring if captured.
Absolutely Amazing....so beautiful 🐋
"When we contemplate the whole globe as one great dewdrop, striped and dotted with continents and islands, flying through space with other stars all singing and shining together as one, the whole universe appears as an infinite storm of beauty. " ~ John Muir

I love videos and photography like this. I came across a documentary a few years ago about a guy named Clark Little. It's amazing. I believe it's called "Shorebreak".
