Fun fact: Sarah tried to do a sketch for SNL parodying BODY DOUBLE but it got cut after dress. It was the episode hosted by Will Forte; Forte would've been playing Clark Gregg in the sketch and Kyle Mooney was playing Craig Wasson. The sketch was Forte showing Mooney his house with the telescope and everything, then they look through the telescope and see the sexy neighbor played by Sarah. The joke was that Sarah's character had really long prosthetic boobs, that she uses to pick up things in the house, do household chores like cleaning, etc. This sketch would've undoubtedly been great but it sounds like it maybe it was difficult to pull off live. Also, maybe the dress audience wasn't into sketches parodying 40 year old Brian De Palma movies :)
@@abemrofchak What I find amazing is how many young adults today are into stuff from way before they were born. When I was young, I don't remember anyone being into Sinatra or Buster Keaton or whatever. Now I see people like that everywhere. And can't tell if it's good or bad.
@@mikestevenson576 I think it's the internet but also the destigmatization of being genuinely weird. I make Alf references pretty regularly and I was born in 1992. I just do it for the love of the game, baby. And because when someone does catch my references to Gordon Shumway, we're gonna be buds.
Re: "Bad Taste'. The 'V' finger gesture is the equivalent of the middle finger over here in the UK (as well as Australia) - so it isn't the 'peace sign'. And in our defence, the US poster for 'Videodrome' is arguably even less spicy. 😉
can't wait to see what sarah does when she gets a shot at her own show or whatever. Helltrap nightmare was legendary, one of the best recurring events in chicago. It's crazy that she's got all these new fans from SNL who never got to see that side of her
I wonder if that was a "peace sign" Sarah saw on the Bad Taste poster. I think that gesture with two fingers is how they "give the finger" in Australia so the one fingered version may be an edit for the US market to eliminate confusion. Haven't researched any of that just spitballin'
Australian here. The backhanded "V" gesture is equivalent to the middle finger in UK, and Australia. The gesture would have been used for US poster *because* its not understood in the US. The middle finger is understood in all 3 countries.
Just to point out for clarity. Videodrome was made by David Cronenberg, a Canadian writer and director, in Canada. The poster is only for the UK release.
Those must be collector's items by now. I saw the movie on its theatrical release, and was issued a card, but I lost it a long time ago. It never occurred to me that it might be a desirable curio some forty years later.
Haha I watched this not thinking I would learn that Sarah Sherman and I would have the same favorite Prince songs! Excellent. Now... it would be cool for Sarah Sherman to meet Cindy Sherman (the artist) and do a collab ;)
LONG LIVE THE NEW FLESH! Sarah is as cool as shit. And for someone like her (with a predilection for all things body horror) that’s probably the nicest thing I can say about her.
We showed Polyester at The Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene, OR when they did a re-release. We had boxes of the Smell-O-Rama cards and they were stinking up the store-room for months until we finally had to throw them out. God, they smelled awful! This was before the Internet really took off so if there was such a thing as Ebay yet, we didn't know about it. Actually I don't specifically recall throwing them away, it's possible someone saved them. I probably have a small stack of them stashed away somewhere...
I saw the movie in its original theatrical release, and though I didn't scratch and sniff during the movie itself, I did sample the odors later at home. The dirty sneakers were far and away the most noxious. I lost the card a long time ago, and imagine it would be a collector's item today.
someone please let Sarah know that the peace symbol is two fingers with the palm _out_. before she ends up getting herself in (more) trouble in the UK...
Pull focus, camera guy! And shallow depth of field might feel endlessly hip but when foreground and background have parity, you've got to stop down your aperture. Cinematography 101...

Perfect episode to have Frankie Goes To Hollywood as the musical guest.
That last sentence is why we're failing as a country.

@@abemrofchak What a brilliant response. Thank you.
I love Sarah Sherman. She's just so comfortable being herself and I admire that in people so much!
it's an act
Feels like if John Waters ever makes another film, she NEEDS to be in it.

Mistaking the "V" finger gesture for "peace" while on holiday could be a potentially dangerous error. 😏
@@michaelmoraga2926 😂
Plenty more where that came from!! 🤣🤣🖕🖕🏻🖕🏼🖕🏽🖕🏾🖕🏿
Yeah it’s a twat. The two finger gesture. I couldn’t believe she didn’t know that
Also, in the peace sign, the palm faces outwards. The V gesture is like flipping the bird but with the index finger added. You're welcome
I've never wanted to be someone's friend more.
Right?! She’s so damn cool. I love her vibe.
the odorama card is included in the criterion collection edition of polyester (and the booklet turns into a poster).
Love the cameo of the guy saying "what's up doc". Real iconic slay.
Great picks.
Sarah is one of the bright spots of SNL.
i love that 'welcome to the dollhouse' poster behind
I'm getting early 2000s flashbacks by looking at Sherman.
She's exceptionally great at making me interested in things I wouldn't normally be interested in. She would make a phenomenal college professor.
One of the best parts of SNL nowadays.

I still have my Odorama card! I saw polyester at the Ken theater in San Diego.

This is all on-brand for Sarah.

I NEED that Body Double Japanese poster!! And If I Was Your Girlfriend is one of my favorite Prince songs too!
There are copies of the poster on Etsy and Ebay. Japan Poster Show used to have it.
Also on Posteritati and Film Art Gallery.
I've never heard of any of these movies, and hoo boy am I in for a ride.

She's the best. ❤🎉😊
long live hell trap nightmare. impeccable taste in Prince tunes!
They showed "Polyester" on TV, and I could not get the Odorama card. Such as shame...but I was only 8 or 9 at the time...😅
Sherman is an extremely pretty woman. So was Lucille Ball.
I love the outfit ❤
If Brian Yuzna ever makes that sequel to SOCIETY...well...Sarah's right there.
Sarah's the coolest
someone please let Sarah know that the peace symbol is two fingers with the palm _out_. before she ends up getting herself in (more) trouble in the UK...
I still think I want to be friends with Sarah Sherman.
So cool

Yo... It's a British middle finger when you flip the peace sign. They took a finger off for the USA poster not the other way around

Why is this girl representing MUBI? So annoying! She acts like she thinks she's funny. She's not. Get people who know movies to host the channel.

She would likely take that as a compliment hahahahha
Especially if Divine was lapping her off a sidewalk lol. I'm just kidding, she rules
She would love to hear you say that: her stage name is Sarah Squirm
