Man, no wonder the Hero went into despair, Unio blew themself up, he killed Memmeln unknowingly, "Something" happened to Destiny and god knows what'll happen to QJ.
My mind was so blown to this that I almost wanted to straight up pay to see you react to it because I literally lost my shit in this episode. I also realize too that leaving out character motivation in a movie can be easily be an oversight and a bad thing, then I remembered the movie in question did bomb in the theaters and that could be part of the reason why. So not only is the MC shaking the foundation of the same movie but improving on it too without even realizing it. Its brilliant. 10/10 show
Natsuko: How do I save everyone? Hmmm... I got it. Male idol from a series I created. It did seem a little weird that this tactic actually worked, but when it was explained, it made a lot of sense. Also made things more interesting.
This episode made me wish that appealing to the humanity of others was always this effective. It's almost painful how badly I want that to be the case in our world. Such attempts are only ever going to be fleeting. But it is up to the individual whether to accept it or not, and it is possible. It's a beautiful message. Sure enough, the MC is leaning further and further into the true hero role. Giving the catalyst of the Ultimate Void an eternal ideal to live up to was so much more than I ever expected. But Mem Meln (lol the space) was able to see reason. She was depressed, not insane. There's something or someone else out there that's not willing to see reason. The creepy birb at the end is a signal of that, kind of like how the white owl is a signal of death in Latin American cultures.
I really like breakdowns like this. Im reading Extra's Academy survival guide. Where the guy ends up in the story of a game he plays as an NPC and he realize how his presense changes the game as well as extremely plot points in the story where a character does something bad in the story but he see's it from the perspective of the in world game as to why they did what they did.
I dunno if anyone else noticed, but... at the very end of the episode, right before the credits, there was a strange, albatross-looking bird with a director's hat looking at the hero and his crew. I wonder what significant role it's going to play in the upcoming episodes ahead? Hmmm.....
Memmeln: "I want to die" Natsiko: "Here is a husbando, better?" Memmeln: "Better" It may be a joke it does show the power waifu and husbando's can have to keep people going
When they started singing 'I hate today'? So relatable LOL But I didn't see the UtaPri ref coming, that took me by surprise my gosh, I laughed so much🤣 Fab episode!!
Dude. My mind was blown by the ending. I’m always looking forward to what she’ll draw next and each time defies expectations. This anime is going to fly under the radar I fear and it’s sad seeing how freaking amazing this show is turning out
The reveals about Memmeln.... I didn't saw them coming at all 🤯 Glad that the pretty boy Idol Exist drawn by Natsuko bring a little happiness in our Elf girl & the cult life! The end of the episode pretty much confirmed that Luke is falling for our MC 🤭 The song during the dance scene was beautiful!
After watching Oshi No Ko i truly hope we can get more series to start with what is effectively a self contained movie as the streaming era goes forward.
You notice, there only few races in the Nine Warriors, but a shot in the intro of the first episode showed more members. I think after Unio dies, more people eventually joined, in future battles. So I think it more content route than sequel route.
Combating hopeless depressive nilism with the power of life positive pop idol messaging. Nice. Also the many implications that a lot the things that went wrong in the original story were due those either ignoring the silent suffering of other charcters or taling for granted of the peace they do have that they fir get what dud lose to get there is interesting. Perhaps that is why in the original things went south so quick that Luke always trying to burden everything upon hinself is what led to Unio self destructing and later starting the chain of events due Luke's honestly having tunnel vision with his mission and not seeking better alternatives.
Going by how those shows go, it might have been the end of the first light novel vol- what do you mean it's original?!? It's quite an interesting concept, the transported-into-story-world scenario being able to cover what would seem like plot holes in the original work. Might not be _too_ mind-blowing at this point - I'm fairly certain by now nearly all kinds of meta layers of isekai stories were covered _somewhere_ - but Zenshu still blends these elements nicely together and it looks like creators had fun referencing all kinds of genres thing. Also, huge props for the staff for really delivering how precious the moment with Ultimate Exister was. On paper washing nihilism away with a cheerful song is cheesy and childishly naive. The way they executed it... it's still cheesy and naive, but it still works! When Memmeln started singing along, it really nailed the feeling of pure joy of that moment! And for what it's worth, the cult of Voids being healed with a song makes a lot of sense, considering choirs and songs is how they bonded and what presumably resonated with them!
Only thing I disagree with is "this looks like it would take only a day to animate" when I feel like this was the most well-animated out of all the creations. Like fully colored, rendered, effects? It's not even just a storyboard/sketch anymore. A whole 2-minute dance sequence with flower particles flooding the scene? My favorite yet (I've rewatched the scene 10 times in two days already), no idea how they are beating this for me.
all she does is draw out the basic outline and movements, what we see when it's not fully coloured is what she does. everything that happens after is of its own doing. all she drew was a human model, the rest was it's own doing when it comes to life and takes matter into its own hands. so she draws out a man who moves around them, a beast that throws a punch, a weapon that shoots explosives or a wrestler in a cage. all the extreme points it does itself so all we had here was a basic outline of a dance, the other drawings would have been more time consuming
@@AHBrandonReviews That makes sense, it's just that our mc is too op (I'm an artist and none of these would take me anywhere as fast as she did). So in proportion to her other animations, perhaps lol.
I think she "almost" falls for the hero, then wakes up in the hospital back and the real world with a better understanding of love and romance. Triple points if she falls for an actor... i don't remember there being a 100% confirmation she actually died in the real world...
Your AOT intro caught me off gaurd, lol! "Could Eran have been stopped by a J-pop Boy Band? But seriously I wish this was a two episode story arc for Memmeln instead of just one. Not only that be no way the rest of the cult is okay with the cult ending by their leader saying "nah I don't want to be possessed by the BBEG any more" (Andy dropping Woody meme but its Memmeln dropping the cult).
If anyone is curious as to why they are using the same animation again and again: These animations are called bank sequences, they are made high quality to be used multiple times. This is same as those old school, transformation animation that was used multiple times.
Only thing I got wrong was the reason. I thought the betrayal got moved up due to jealousy of Natsuko and it was actually eternal suffering causing depression, which is obvious in retrospect considering Melm Meln's expressions and behavior thus far.
I think that she was out for the 3 days because even tho it was more simpler than her other animations, this one was fully realized and finished compared than before
Finally a piece of media acknowledges how shitty and cursed immortality would really be! Its always bothered me on how most media portrays immortality as this big reward, or something to strive for, when to me all it entails is seeing your loved ones grow old and die without you, and being forced to see every atrocity, every war, every disaster (natural or otherwise), and just generally every bad thing for the rest of existence occur before you without end and its not something I'd wish on anybody. I love life and I hope I can live a long one, but I never want to experience immortality and I don't understand why anyone would. Imagine what it'd do to your sanity and mental health too! No thank you! On a much less serious note, I just watched these 1st 4 episodes last night and the MC is such a riot! She had me busting out laughing every 5 minutes. It also crazy how much I see of myself in this. I'm no professional animator (tho I do dabble for fun) but I always imagined that if I had a superpower, it'd be having a magic paintbrush or something that would bring my drawings to real life since I'm a very artsy person. And some of the meta moments about fans made me feel so called out😂. Overall, I'm really enjoying this series so far and I'll definitely be following along with it for the rest of the episodes.
I think Natsuko changed so much of the plot that it would go into new territory. I think the movie is going to try to realign itself back to its intentional ending
It felt somewhat profound, like for animators who have passed away. They may be mortal, but their artwork remains immortal. Perhaps I'm reading too much into this...
Even if the ending was cool, what Memmeln was planning on doing is the most elfish thing a person can ever do. I'm going to try to bypass the algorithm here, so bear with me - When someone wants to "go", the worst thing they can do is take others with them. If they're really going to do it, they need to just do it to themselves and leave others out of it.
I give it full marks for not doing the same thing twice. but I worry they'll run out of ideas before the run out of episodes. So today it was Steven Universe no Jutsu. Memmeln felt like a cop out. 1) If you think all life is pain and suffering you don't get to decide that for everyone. Save that Shuyin bs for Final Fantasy 10-2. 2) A musical number really should be at the half way or the climax. This feels a bit too early. Again going back to 10-2, Yuna's Thousand Words concert is about 2/3 through the story. My prediction is we still have the clay droid's story to go through. Then we'll start digging into Natsuko's personal history. Mappa is clever enough that it's pulling ultimates from other genres. The Missile barrage comes form mecha anime. The finishing wrestling move comes from street fighting genre like Pokemon, MK and the titular Street Fighter. This one definitely borrows from idol series most famously Steven Universe. My guess is some Phoenix Wright action will go down next week. I'm also guessing they'll save the isekai ultimate for episode 12-13.
I may be in the minority but this episode kind of ruined the show for me. You don't fix the kind of depression that would make those people want to end the world with an idol singing a cute anime style song. That is even more cringed than overcoming insurmountable odds with the power of friendship. Then the elf saying she can last eternity as a fan girl just made me not want to watch another episode. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but this was terrible writing imho.
As someone that has had depression and wanted to jump out the third story of my father's house as a teenager, a song and dance wasn't going to fix how I felt, BUT my father listened and even did an entire assignment for me that I was struggling with. Ultimately I didn't turn it in and failed the assignment, getting a lower grade in the class as a result, but it mattered to me that someone close put in that kind of effort. That is what resonated with me here- Natsuko put in the effort to show the cultists an alternative path, and even if they couldn't do anything with that effort afterward, it touched them enough to not resort to ending it all out of despair.
To add onto what savage said, it also highlights that even when things end they can last past death. Whether it's drawing or a memory so even of many will die around them there will be timeless memories they can build. So it's more than just a song and a dance, at face value it's that for anime entertainment but it's actually quite deeper than that
@@savagej4y241 I've struggled with depression for a number of decades myself. That's why the shallowness for how they dealt with this cult turned me off. Helping them find a reason to live is certainly good but the idea that a simple song and dance was going to fix everything is just stupid. But that is how I feel. I don't expect everyone to see it as I do.
We'll have to wait for the next week or two to see, but it's quite possible this *didn't* solve it for them outright, it just solved it for them for now. We might still see Melmeln still being depressed about life but more willing to share that depression with those around her and learn more ways to cope rather than taking the ultimate way out. And now she knows she has friends that are willing to help her with that.
@@davidbowen9596 Fair enough, different people have different situations and respond in different ways. I can see how it might turn off some such as yourself, in my case it made me feel a bit emotional and wishing it really were that easy IRL more often to help others feel like someone has their back.

Her drawings keeping the cult in check is brilliant. I love Memmeln now.❤
Memmeln needs to learn from Frieren to live on for the people you lost. (Chopper too, "A person truly dies when those who knew them forget them.")
